Have you ever wondered what might happen if you had an accident and nobody was around to help? If you enjoy getting lost in the countryside, like to venture off the beaten track when you're on your winter holidays or even if you want a safety net when you head out on that first Tinder date, wouldn't it be nice to have a community of people that you could alert if anything were to go wrong? Flare is an emergency SOS app. If you get in to trouble, turn on a flare and it'll behave in much the same way as a real flare. Anyone in the vicinity, who has the app installed, will receive a notification along with your location. If you're struggling to get data on your device, you can send an old fashioned text message to a selection of your contacts, with a google maps link to your location. I've made this app in my spare time and would love for it to be as beneficial to people as possible. What on earth do you do when you're the first to respond to a flare?! Well, now there's a link to a website that tells you all about first aid. I've learnt a thing or two just by implementing the feature, so it's worth a look. You might also notice that there's a pretty fancy new App Preview, on the App Store (just below, if you're here now). I know, it's not that important, but it was fun to make and it shows what the app's all about, in 15 seconds. ### 1.1.0 — 2018-04-06 Now that Flare has been in the app store for a little while, you guys have made it clear that it would be even better with one or two extra features. I've spent the rainy bank holiday weekend working on the most common request, which was to show how old an incident is. It wasn't as quick as I was expecting, but I'm quite pleased with the result- I hope you are too! So, if you ever have to respond to an incident now, you'll be able to see how old it is by the number on the orange map pin (it turns grey when a flare is really old). ### 1.0.1 — 2018-03-03 There was a bug in the first release. Thanks to those who spotted that adding an emergency contact didn't work on the first attempt. I was trying to make make the code a bit neater and it backfired. Oh well, it's fixed now and it won't happen again (it might happen again). Also, i've added a notification when you swipe to close the app. In my attempt to be as unobtrusive as possible in the way I designed the app, you'll only get an emergency notification if you've left the app backgrounded. Let me know if it's annoying and i'll turn down the frequency a bit.
