But once you close the ap on your phone it no longer syncs to your account forcing you to to delete and add again. If you click mange subscription it quits the ap and you cannot access it from the ap anymore. ### 1/5 — Can’t select region *2025-02-03* Before the major update and the discontinued FA original app that worked perfectly. This new app has many flaws and we are in the midst of winter storms. As an educator with a small kiddo having these updates is important. I can’t even select the region I live in to see surrounding areas alerts. Whatever they did to update left the new version inoperable. Doesn’t keep your set regions or updates in real time. Won’t even let me manage subscriptions, when you tap the button to manage, it shuts down the app. Total waste of an important app. ### 1/5 — Region is stuck- cannot switch to my region. Cannot update subscription. *2025-01-22* Went to update the app and now my region is stuck to Columbia region (which is not where I live) and I cannot toggle to a new region. The old app you would click on the three lines (top left, hamburger) and toggle to your region or check news in another region which was helpful. Now I cannot do that. When I tried to click on manage my subscriptions the app crashes every time. Super annoying. This is dark mode fyi- maybe it works for users not in dark mode. I cannot change the region, none of my subscriptions load, and there is a notification that doesn’t go away and there is nowhere for me to even click on any notifications. I’m constantly getting test after test notification, but nothing for actual flash alerts. ### 1/5 — Region can’t be changed, constantly crashes *2025-01-14* This app is necessary because I work in a school but it always crashes. Now as of the new year, it keeps sending test messages (15 in an hour) and won’t let me choose another region. My region is correct on the online version. Also, you get tests and you can’t clear the test messages. Also no way to contact any support for resolution ### 1/5 — 100% Useless *2025-01-08* Completely useless now. Others have reported some of the same problems, but the list of problems is long. I noticed the old app was having more problems (than usual) and discovered there is a new app we have to use now - that doesn't work at all (as of Jan 7 2025). This app/system has been bad for many years, but has hit a new low. Upon install/setup, things seem to *mostly* work. I can see listings under My FlashAlerts and Local Alerts and can change the Region and manage subscriptions. But AFTER closing the app and reopening it: - Unable to change Region - only shows Columbia - Local Alerts list is empty - My FlashAlerts list is empty - Click Account Settings button > Manage Subscriptions button and the app crashes. Clicking "Detach This App From My Account" button also crashes. Only fix is to uninstall the app and reinstall it (and reconnect your account) - which also adds a duplicate entry to "My Linked Phone Apps" that you have to remove. Also: - Dark mode hides many dark icons and lines - Click "Send Test" under "My LInked Phone Apps". I did this after the initial setup (i.e. when it was still mostly working) and a popup in the app shows a test alert message and you cannot dismiss it (and it hides text on the screen). The email comes right away, but no push notification. Then my phone gets about 20 push notifications spread out over a few hours. Now in the state where the app is useless (close and reopen) and I tried "Send Test" again from the website - received the email immediately but still no mobile push notification. That's all I've got the energy to report now. I need a drink. iOS 18.2.1 ### 1/5 — How is this app so bad? *2025-01-07* The previous app iteration was at least functional even if it lacked dark mode. At this point I have no idea if my company is open or closed due to inclement weather. No way to see my region, the region drawer is devoid of any and all regions. Checking my subscriptions causes a catastrophic failure (immediate app crash). I sincerely hope app development improves soon as this is a fantastic service if/when it works. ### 1/5 — New app doesn’t work *2025-01-07* I didn’t realize that there was a new app and the other one was retired until last night. The hamburger is missing on dark mode so I have to switch to light mode to do anything and like others have mentioned it forgets your region. When I logged in today not only has it forgotten my region the regional options aren’t showing anymore-it’s completely blank and it’s not showing my subscriptions so there’s nothing for me to view and I can’t even get it to revert because there’s nothing in the menu. Should have done more testing before they shut down the old app. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Once Excellent Now Major Problems *2025-03-05* On Feb 5 a reviewer of this app stated that they reached out to Flash Alert.” Additionally that the app is being worked on for iOS users. “Excellent customer service response certainly helps.” A month has now passed and there have been no updates or changes. In fact the problems that I pointed out in January have not been resolved. So I am disappointed in their “Excellent customer service service response.” This app is in fact a horrendous failure. All very disappointing. ### 1/5 — Not at all functional *2025-02-14* The app doesn’t even display the region options, and is permanently stuck on “Columbia County.” Nowhere near my area. Was working perfectly in the previous version, then the “upgrade “ broke it. Have had to delete and reload the app every time I wish to use it, rendering it useless. I use it related to my work and need the notifications to work….they aren’t. The app developer should either fix the problems or have this removed from the App Store. ### 1/5 — Doesn’t Work *2025-02-13* I have uninstalled and reinstalled this app many of times in the last few months. It doesn’t work. I have tried logging in and out on the web, it will only load one day. They need to fix the bugs. I have a the latest version. In all the years I’ve had Flash Alert it never had any issues until I installed this new version earlier this week. The old version of the app worked great with no issues ever. This version works one time and then once you reopen it, it does not work anymore. It only works if you delete it and reinstall it, but again only works once. ### 1/5 — Fix This! *2025-02-05* Clearly the app hasn't been working since it was updated. Having been over a month, you would think the developer would take notice and do something about it. Especially since school districts are paying for the service and relying on it to send notifications to families when there are delays or cancellations. I’ve used the app for years for school updates and sheriff alerts, I’ve put up with weird bugs in the past, but now it’s just useless. ### 1/5 — What’s going on?! *2025-02-05* I’ve been using FA since it started as a web application. Like other commenters the app just quit mid-December and when I reinstalled it I reset everything to the old settings. I finally deleted it. Regardless of what I do the hamburger menu is blank to select the region and everything defaults to the Columbia region. I have nothing against Pendleton or Hermiston but I don’t live there. If I want to know how my family is doing I can call them. I want to know about PDX since that’s where I live! Of course the app isn’t working correctly and we are entering winter and inclement weather. One would think that having the app working properly would be a priority. Idk who messed things up but please fire them and get someone who knows what they’re doing! ### 1/5 — Non functional *2025-02-04* After many years of using the app I am really disappointed in the update. I have to delete and re-download the app every time I want to use it as the minute you close it locks all features and gives you no information. Half the time you cannot even see the region choices on the initial start up ! Excellent customer service response certainly helps. Constantly having to delete and reinstall for the region I’m actually in to be selected. It works once and then crashes. I’ve used this app for over a decade and have only started having problems in Dec. 2024. Bummer. ### 3/5 — Seems a little finicky *2025-02-05* The new app wasn't working for me. Kept closing when I would try to manage subscriptions. No subscriptions even showed in the app, though I was still receiving email notifications. I uninstalled restarted my phone and reinstalled and linked my account. Made sure to allow notifications and boom, it now seems to be working 🤞 ### 3/5 — No option to choose location for news *2025-02-05* I have my schools and organizations picked but it has my local news and alerts set for somewhere 6 hours away and no option to update. Dark Mode issues *2025-01-02* The app quit posting new alerts on Dec 24th & the date last updated was a week in the future, so I deleted & downloaded the new version. I selected my region, but every time I open it, it has defaulted to Columbia region. I tried to switch it back to my area, but under regions there are no options. Also, under dark mode the 3 lines at the top left to go to the region menu do not show up. I had to switch back to light mode to see them. One more issue with the dark mode. In the list of alerts on the main screen, all of the titles are in bold, and the contrast with the dark background along with the intermix of bright blue makes it really bright and it hurts my eyes to try to read what is there.
