## What is Flatscan?

Flatscan is a private document scanner and searchable archive with encrypted protected folders for iPhone and iPad.

Scan paper documents or import photos, PDFs, and files from other apps. Find saved information with on-device OCR, protect sensitive documents in a locally encrypted space secured by Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode, and export clean PDFs without ads or watermarks.

Flatscan Pro includes unlimited OCR and document search, searchable PDF export, and the ability to create protected folders or add protected content. Existing protected documents remain accessible after a subscription ends. Apple handles subscriptions through the App Store; manage or cancel them in your Apple Account settings.

OCR quality depends on lighting, blur, document condition, language, and handwriting. Authentication options depend on your device and settings. Flatscan helps organize documents but does not provide legal, medical, tax, or financial advice.

Flatscan has a new app icon and clearer, better-organized Settings. Storage and backup tools are now easier to find, while Pro status is presented more quietly.

When creating an encrypted backup, the app now immediately explains if the password is too short, confirmation is missing, or the passwords do not match.

We also improved reliability and polished details throughout the app.

### 1.3 — 2026-07-29

Protected folders are here. Keep sensitive documents in a separate encrypted space secured by Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode.

Protected folders stay out of the regular archive and search, lock automatically, and can be included in a password-protected backup. You can create multiple folders, move documents or entire folders from your regular archive, search recognized text, and export clean PDFs or TXT files while the protected space is unlocked.

Creating folders or adding protected content requires Flatscan Pro. Existing protected documents always remain accessible, including after a subscription ends.

### 1.2 — 2026-07-16

Create a complete backup of your local archive, including folders, Trash, original pages, recognized text, and notes. Password-protected backups are encrypted on device, and restore safely adds data without replacing documents already on your device.
You can now recognize one page or an entire document again. Recognized text is cleaner for prose, columns, tables, and forms.
Document type and title suggestions are more accurate and stay quiet when OCR evidence is unclear. OCR, export, and interrupted-operation recovery are also more reliable.

Flatscan is now available in Japanese, Korean, and Dutch.

Recognized text formatting is improved for prose, tables, and forms in these languages. Local document type and title suggestions now stay quiet unless OCR evidence is strong.

This update also improves iPad layouts, reliability, and accessibility.

You can now export the full recognized text of a document as a TXT file.
Improved local OCR-based suggestions for document type and suggested titles. Suggestions now stay quieter when OCR evidence is unclear.
