From a technical perspective, the notification system is lacking; notifications often do not work even when they are enabled on both the device and in the software. Another thing - background refresh needs improvement. It’s a great place to store and show my photos as well as to interact with other photographers. It’s a great online photography community. I especially like the groups. It has never felt like social media, but a platform that thrives particularly on the desktop, not mobile devices, and prioritises photography, not self promotion. It has enabled me to connect with like minds around the globe. Those that love art, love pictures, and understand these things beyond superficiality. It has become a community I enjoy smart exchanges with - sometimes simply fun, other times rather high-minded - but in either case has a strong connective base. I was quite upset when my account was deleted because of a comment I made. I was talking to other gay men and to loose my account and my friends was wrong but with any site we have no way of trying to fix the wrong! It’s not fair to us in the gay community! I admit I don’t comment like a Sunday school teacher or interact with my fellow brothers. My pics and videos were my property you can put a 2000 page community guidelines but to delete my image goes against me my friends and our sel expression! Flickr is the best of the best no one can compete with you! You can’t see it anymore because most of it set to private now, but I learned how to take pictures with Flickr- and had 15 years of the most amazing job I could ever imagine thanks to Flickr. I met some of my best friends thanks to Flickr. I’ve traveled the world hanging out with people thanks to Flickr. I don’t know if I use hyperbole correctly. My point is that-Flickr is the thing that when asked, I would say as the one thing I would grab when I was running out of a burning house. Except except for the fact that I don’t have to grab it. It’s safe. , honestly that’s my only fear. What would I do with out Flickr ? How would I see my pictures? How would I be able to scroll through 20 years? Keep doing what you’re doing. It’s pretty awesome. I appreciate it. I’ll keep using you and paying for it. (And thank u for buying them and saving them the only time I was ever worried about losing a technology. Technically wise, I have used almost every or tried every photo archiving system and Flickr is the best cloud driven personal photo sharing organization system there is. Hands down. You make 🍎s photos weep at what it might have been. ) Anyway, I feel pretty vulnerable putting out that I don’t know what I would do without Flickr. Even though I don’t use any of the social aspects that were a huge part of my life for years. This is once again an excellent app. Nice design, nice layout, self explanatory to use. Great! Previous review: The old version was a fantastic app. Everything was clear and visible and nicely laid out. You could expand photos to fill the screen. The new version is a steaming pile. Thankfully common sense prevailed and the perfectly working previous version was re-released. I have to pass on my thanks to the contact team for their detailed information on raising my concerns. The new version 5.0 update has made this app worse in almost every way. It’s so clunky and messy to use now. I’m unable to upload photos directly to Flickr from my iPhone. I cannot scroll through my Camera Roll and instead I have to open/close each photo one at a time. The Stream feature has its own flaws and also makes scrolling through my pictures quite difficult. Adding and editing groups of pictures is now much more ponderous than it ever was before this new “upgrade”. I could go on, but why should I bother? I had created a special Yahoo email specifically for my Flickr account, and did not use the Yahoo account for anything else. Some time ago, Yahoo deleted my account because of apparent inactivity and when Flickr forced me to sign back in, recently, I was unable to because I don’t have access the email account. I’m effectively locked out, even though I’m paying for a pro subscription. I emailed five days ago, and have no response. I’ll be canceling my account, as soon as I figure out how. ### 1/5 — New version of app sucks *2026-07-23, version 5.0.2* Flickr: Lets break the whole user experience but completely redoing & annoy user’s even more. Users: Well done you’ve succeeded, what once took 1 or 2 clicks now takes 4, just do a search for a user. Oh a user had 1000s of pictures or favourites, but you’ve made it so only a few are shown. I currently have two Flickr Pro accounts. I retired after working in IT trenches for almost 40 years. At all of the companies where I worked, software releases, especially for new products, were carefully tested and managed before being deployed in production environments. Since Flickr was last acquired in April 2018, I have repeatedly (and politely) suggested publicly (Flickr’s Help Forums) and privately (Flickr Support) that the company should adopt more professional software release and deployment management practices and tools. Clearly, Flickr did not do this with the new mobile apps. The bugs and missing features in the new releases of the Flickr mobile apps are inexcusable. That said, I am posting a suggestion I made in Flickr’s Help Forum in March 2019. I stand by what I said then, now more than ever: “Thanks for the updates, Don. I appreciate the efforts you and your team are taking to transition to AWS. I’ve been in IT for almost too-many-years-to-count and work for a very large corporation, so I understand that your migration project is enormous. I’ve found the Help Forum to be useful and even entertaining at times, but I do think it is difficult to know where your migration project stands overall, the status of outages (yesterday), and so forth. Suggestion: Perhaps you could set up a project dashboard that we could easily access to see the status of the various infrastructure activities underway, outages (planned and unplanned), common incidents, an estimated timeline of upcoming releases/features, etc. (This suggestion is in line with some of my earlier ITIL service management posts.)” ### 1/5 — Total Disaster *2026-07-22, version 5.0.2* New version is a total disaster. I cannot see photos by the people I follow as the home feed is full of recommended photos. Why has this been implemented? If this stays like this I will remove the app as it is of no use to me. ### 1/5 — Add to Group missing *2026-07-22, version 5.0.2* This update is very disappointing. The ability to add photos to multiple groups at once appears to have been removed and I now have to go to each group individually and add my photos. Very frustrating and time consuming. They place no limit on the size or number of images, so you don’t have to crop or shrink any to meet some bogus limits and can post all of your images in their full glory. This is becoming more and more an issue with the latest “35mm” mirrorless cameras from Leica, Sony and Nikon that sport ca. 50 MP sensors. In addition, Flickr provides what I think is the best security and image protection control technology available.
