Flint Eats is a mobile application that was designed by researchers at Michigan State University and residents in Flint, Michigan. The app was designed with four goals in mind: 1) To provide Flint residents with a way to share information about the quality and cost of food available from Local Food Retailers; 2) To provide Flint residents with a way to share knowledge about food preparation and nutritional value; 3) To provide Flint retailers with an opportunity to advertise affordable, healthy food to Flint residents; 4) To create incentives for food retailers in Flint to provide healthy, high quality food in safe, friendly, accessible environments. There are stores listed that don’t sale food at all such as car washes, liquor stores, etc. I was so overwhelmed by the amount of smiling tomato’s that I stopped looking for grocery stores nearby. If there was a filter I could better understand what was on the screen. This app would be a perfect way to find out about deals and tips for eating healthy, however, it seems like it is still in the early developmental stages.
