## What is Flip Flap by DGR Labs?

Flip Flap turns your TV into a stunning retro split-flap message board like the kind you'd find in train stations and airports. Scan the QR code, type a message from your phone, and watch each tile click and flip into place with satisfying mechanical sounds.

Getting started is simple: launch Flip Flap on your Apple TV and scan the QR code with your phone. No app to install on your phone. Just scan and type. Your message appears on the big screen in seconds, animated tile by tile with authentic clacking sounds.

FEATURES

- Realistic split-flap animation with mechanical sound effects
- 21×8 tile grid for large, readable messages
- Phone remote via QR code -- no extra app needed
- Word-wrap and auto-centering for clean layouts
- Random, funny, and seasonal quote buttons for instant content
- Press the center button on your Apple TV remote to hide the QR code for a clean display
- Prevents screen sleep so your message stays visible
- Works on Apple TV HD and all Apple TV 4K models

PERFECT FOR

- Welcome messages for guests and visitors
- Motivational quotes in your office or living room
- Event signage and party displays
- Restaurant or cafe specials

Flip Flap connects securely through the cloud so your phone remote works from anywhere on any network. Messages are encrypted in transit.

## Version history (last 3 releases)

### 1.2 — 2026-09-21

KEEPS YOUR MUSIC PLAYING
• Flip Flap used to stop whatever you were listening to. Now your music keeps going and the flaps clack along on top of it.

LONG WORDS AND LINKS FIT
• A word or link too long for one row now carries over to the next row. It used to get cut off.
• Accented letters show up as the plain letter, so CAFÉ reads CAFE.

BETTER AT STAYING CONNECTED
• We rebuilt how the board stays connected, so one that's been on for days keeps getting your messages. If the connection does drop, you'll see "Reconnecting…" in the corner until it's back.

EASIER ON YOUR TV
• Everything on screen drifts by a few pixels every few minutes, to help keep a message you leave up for a long time from burning in.

### 1.1 — 2026-07-10

MUCH BETTER ANIMATION
• Every character changes with a proper mechanical flap animation

MUCH BETTER SOUND
• All-new sound, sampled from a real split-flap display

MUCH BETTER PERFORMANCE
• Much smoother performance on older Apple TV 4K models

ALSO, BUG FIXES :)
• Fixed a bug where unsupported characters could make a tile flip forever

### 1.0 — 2026-04-01

No release notes.
