### 2/5 — It would be five stars if it wasn't broken

*2026-07-14, version 1.5.2*

Awesome idea and great execution up until every sample I recorded started automatically turning into unintelligible noise at the point of automatic cuts the program does. Please tell me how to fix it or add the option to turn off automatic cutting all together. Thanks.

### 2/5 — Usabilità da migliorare

*2026-05-31, version 1.5.1*

### 3/5 — A little limiting

*2026-04-28, version 1.5.1*

Sorry andrew.

### 3/5 — Automation settings don’t persist

*2026-04-22, version 1.5.1*

Automation settings don’t persist when snapping (0) is selected. Every time I close I have to reset this for each automation track. It could be a really easy fix I am sure. I love this sampler otherwise but some of the bugs make it borderline unusable.

### 3/5 — My person probably waited a bit long for the update to happen, glad I did.

*2026-03-31, version 1.5.1*

I just wanna report the update is good.

I originally had problems with importing my files in flip now, intua beat maker wav files work. Bm3 file format does not. Not a problem!!

My current state of problem is the sequenced framed window I can not long press to quantize inside file window.

And where is the save button or save as???

If the above r targeted for my personal use this is an all in mobile d. a. W. Then next integration with other apps where flip play nice outside of ableton live like AUM, eg nodes, etc.

### 3/5 — Au3 please

*2025-09-11, version 1.4.2*

Wish this was an au3 I could use inside Aum . It crashed constantly when using inter app audio. Otherwise it’s useful.

### 2/5 — Key Detection

*2024-07-31*

I’m still having issues with the “copy, duplicate, quantize...” menu. It won’t appear unless I tap the scroll bar. I also see this bug in some review videos on YouTube so I believe it’s an old issue.

The Key Finder is messing up everything more than helping. It rarely find the right key, so I have to change the key manually every time . I love the app because it forces you to create with less sample slots/tracks but some meaningful updates would be nice.

**Developer response:** Hm, can you send us a screenshot? Can not experience that issue

### 2/5 — Not be trusted in a live situation

*2024-03-31, version 1.4.2*

The app still crashes often when adjusting midi paterns. Then data is lost. Additionally it is almost impossible to make a good pattern, because the app doesn’t really do precise finger placement and the midi roll is just way to small for a phone .

### 4/5 — One of my favorite sampling apps, but could use some improvement.

*2024-01-16, version 1.4.2*

Flip can definitely be used to make some great beats. It’s logically laid out, intuitive to learn, generally fun to use, and can do a lot, despite being limited to 9 sample pads (unlike the multiple banks of 16 pads each on an app like the IMPC). The help function is very useful and well-implemented. I love this thing overall, and it’s easier to use than the IMPC, but it does have some areas where operation can be frustrating and could be improved.

I don’t know how feasible it’d be to have separate mixer settings, FX settings and samples for each pattern within a program, but it’d be highly useful and much appreciated. I can live without that, though. Limitations can breed creativity.

More importantly, I’ve found the multitrack tape recorder and stem export functions to be buggy—which is frustrating, because they’re also incredibly useful for getting the sequences into a DAW as a multitrack session…when they work right. My stem tracks have randomly come out incomplete and different lengths (or with no sound) for no apparent reason; then when I try again with the same settings, everything renders perfectly and with matching lengths. Nasty clipping distortion also happens much more easily on rendered tracks than is audible when listening in the mixer; I’ve often had to re-render stems several times in a row, with elements of the mix turned down more and more, before I could get a clean result. The app also seems to have crashed on me a couple times, but it’s constantly autosaving, which is a fantastic feature that helps make crashes much less frustrating.

Despite the sometimes annoying drawbacks, this app is fantastic value and I’d recommend it. Just be aware that it’s seemingly not perfect. Hopefully the stuff I describe will be fixed (or it’s all just the result of me doing something wrong). The app’s definitely still fun and useful overall.

### 3/5 — Could be great if it weren’t so buggy

*2023-12-31, version 1.4.2*

I want to love this app. Typically it’s a great tool for improvising & sketching out melodies & percussion ideas. But there’s unfortunately too much inconsistency & bugs with sample recording.

Half the time it works great - I hit the record button & hum a note or make some sort of drum sound with my mouth & flip automatically find the starting point. But more often it seems to just be latching onto a bit of noise (according to the waveform) or sometimes the waveform looks correct, but it just won’t play back my recording at all. Not sure if this is just a problem for me or if it’s a common occurrence. Other than that bug it’s usually a great & fun app.

### 4/5 — Beautiful creative music App!, but.

*2023-11-22, version 1.4.2*

I love making beats on this software and messing with it on my computer, this is a seamless process of recording samples, to recording session, to saving to my iCloud, to editing software it’s amazingly simple. I would give it 5 stars but have a simple grape with the app now won’t let me upload things to it to use not sure why but gives me an error, but other then that I love this app I like restarting sample pads so it wasn’t to much of an inconvenience. I do have a update idea, have the option to maybe edit names of the pads page and also maybe have the option to change the colors of them. That would be amazing to helping me decipher my pads lol. But thanks for making a great app!

### 3/5 — New Update is Buggy

*2023-09-17, version 1.4.1*

iPad Pro 2022 update seems to be buggy as hell. App crashes anytime i record a sample or if i choose to use the new loop envelope.

Any ideas?

### 4/5 — became laggish

*2023-09-01, version 1.4.1*

after update some issues appeared: freezes and floating latency.
ipad air 2022

### 2/5 — Keeps crashing.

*2023-08-22, version 1.4*

I don’t know why but if I try to load anything other than the samples that come with the app, it crashes. I’ve never seen such an unstable sampler before.

### 2/5 — Glitches in automation screen

*2023-08-13*

I bought this app for the sample Start and new Looping automation, but it’s not that easy to control to use - seems very hit and miss, and I’m getting glitches when drawing automation using the pen tool - masses of peaks generated drawn instead of a smooth line, and the ‘Q’ feature doesn’t seem to have any additional perimeters for more precise editing.

Regretting this purchase so far.

### 4/5 — First DAW I bought when I got an iPad to produce music

*2023-08-08, version 1.4*

TL;DR don't rely on any one DAW especially this one that's still new. An apple pen might come in handy more than not. It's about the sampler for quick ideas and fun not detail but it's still handy.------------------- Inspired by Andrew Huang and excited to hear of his new app I bought the latest iPad mini (not sure if it's as good as his phone he uses for the videos) and thought it was very innovative and still do. My problem is making mistakes on the daw is troublesome to fix when the playlist sequencer is the most difficult to use out of my others (beatmaker 3 and cubasis, even GB). The metronome isn't working for me either and sometimes you can lose samples if not saved correctly in flip. Itd be nice to handle your notes in sequence without richocheting a bunch of copy pasta and then having to tirelessly undo them individually.

New criticism:
I made a beat with a similar name to another project I did a while back ( I'm lucky I finished exporting that beat into a song or this would be a lot angrier) and when I tried to rename the beat i did a while back whilst still being on the newer beat I made, flip app overwrote what I made with my older beat with the new beats contents. This is something I couldn't undo with the undo arrow. This app is too old to have some crap like this happening but I'm grateful I was proactive about that beat or I'd have literally destroyed it from a simple mistake. Cmon guys.

### 4/5 — Tanks..

*2023-08-07, version 1.4*

The sound is incredeble but Application crashes

### 3/5 — Near perfect

*2023-08-07, version 1.4*

Could be perfect if we could have a custom number of pads and the ability to choose several folders

Line 1 : drums
Line 2 : bass
Line 3 : melody
Line 4 : chords etc…

Also I have a recurring bug that makes the « randomize all pads » not working and randomize only one pad

### 3/5 — Hold function please

*2023-08-02, version 1.4*

This app is really well thought out - but lacking different ways to playback a sample - great to add loop function but a hold function is essential IMO. Please update! Thanks

### 2/5 — Updates and still not a good app

*2023-08-02, version 1.4*

So got a developer response to last review and the response was to delete a sample. Click click click click. Exactly my point it’s Not intuitive. I have to click down a bunch of menu diving to delete a sample. The developer didn’t listen to my review. They didn’t take anything to heart. They heard a criticism and shrugged it off. They should have listened to me and others saying we like the app it’s just not intuitive. Instead of blowing us off let’s make the app fun and useable.
Below is my new updated review from 080123

I’ve had this app since day one. I keep up with all updates and truth is it’s just too complicated to get simple things done. Not a good app. Sounds good but UI is horrible. Such a waste. Also after new update tue pattern delete doesn’t work. And when I try to copy a pattern it won’t go to section I drag it but instead one Over from where I drag it. Can’t figure out basic things like piano roll. Sure re watch the tutorial videos everytime I try to like the app but I’m an experienced musician with every professional iOS music pro app and I can’t figure basic feature. This is Still not an intuitive app. Take more presses and time to get basic things done. And please for the sake of all that’s holy. Put labels on things. The ridiculous icons are a waste of space and energy. They aren’t intuitive. On a good note the app sounds good. Shame it’s useless compared to similar apps. Hey recently came across a new app that’s awesome and intuitive. Dreambeat or something lol. Dawnneat that’s it. I was making full tracks within 3 minutes with it. Compare that to an hit with this app and don’t even have a decent beat. I give up on this app. Deleting again.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Not asexpected

*2026-08-11, version 1.5.2*

I want my refund. Zooming into waveforms is horrible. Horrible UI layout. You have icons and no labels. Take a page from Koala designers. How do I get my refund?

### 1/5 — Crashing constantly

*2025-04-19, version 1.4.2*

I bought this app for the sample Start and new Looping automation, but it’s not that easy to control to use - seems very hit and miss, and I’m getting glitches when drawing automation using the pen tool - masses of peaks generated drawn instead of a smooth line, and the ‘Q’ feature doesn’t seem to have any additional perimeters for more precise editing.

Regretting this purchase so far.

Update: no fixes, still crashing. Seems to be abandoned.

### 1/5 — Crashing

*2025-03-28, version 1.4.2*

I loved this app. And then it stopped working. Crashes on my iPad mini upon open. Cmon devs, please fix!

### 1/5 — Stürzt kurz nach dem Start ab !

*2023-09-26, version 1.4.1*

Habe die App auf Grund eines Youtube-Videos gekauft, aber so ? Sehr schade !!!

### 1/5 — Not Accessible With Voiceover

*2023-01-17, version 1.2.7*

I’m a blind musician and use voiceover (Apple’s built in screenreader) on my iPhone/iPad. On downloading this app I’m presented with the usual “Flip would like to access the microphone”, which I allowed, only to then be presented with a blank screen, which even when using Screen Recognition (a fairly new feature that I believe uses OCR to try recognise text) it still isn’t usable. Very disappointing, really hope this is fixed soon as it genuinely sounds like a great app.

### 1/5 — Love the app but you can’t export stems

*2022-10-13, version 1.2.5*

The app is great and fun to use however when you try to export stems or a master it will randomly decide to give you only partial tracks which makes the whole thing unusable for recording. Really disappointed Update: When exporting stems, you get wildly different file sizes each time you export the same project and the tracks are incomplete. What’s the point of this sampler? I gave the app a one-star because, without the ability to export stems, anything I do is locked on my device and that’s not helpful or why I bought the product. Also, I reached out to support directly days ago and through YouTube, and to Charles on Twitter without receiving a response.

### 1/5 — Flip Sampler - Sound pack purchase has gone

*2022-09-16, version 1.2.5*

I was really looking forward to purchasing the additional sound packs for this. I purchased one and it has now disappeared from my purchases.

I’m reluctant to purchase something again that I already bought and this has made me very unsure of using the app now 😢

### 1/5 — Unusable with Magic Keyboard on iPad Pro

*2022-01-04, version 1.2.0*

App will crash instantly any key is hit on the attached keboard. This means that anything that requires interaction with the keyboard (such as naming any project or sample), or an accidental touch of a key will crash the app.

Currently unusable until this is fixed.

### 1/5 — Difícil hacer algo peor

*2021-08-10, version 1.1.3*

Pésima directamente no se puede hacer nada la peor aplicación pero con diferencia!

### 1/5 — Fun to use

*2021-08-03, version 1.1.3*

I have had this for a while and it is full of glitches. Sometimes it works as it should, other times it doesn’t. It could be my phone and or my iPad, or it could be the app is glitchy. I was working on a project and for some strange reason, the metronome stopped working. Nothing helped. I reinstalled the app and now the metronome works again. There’s nothing worse than reading reviews of folks who have this app and it works seamlessly

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Good

*2026-08-03, version 1.5.2*

Very good, made some beats out of sounds from places I’ve gone, which is a great way to remember things

### 5/5 — Crashes fixed

*2026-05-05, version 1.5.1*

Thank you devs for helping fix my crashing Flip app. It was indeed an issue with a corrupt project. This app is the best!

### 5/5 — Fabulous but not WORKING

*2025-06-27, version 1.4.2*

I worked
Successfully with Flip after purchasing it, until upgrading iPhones from a 12 Pro Max to a 15 Pro Max. Since that time, FLIP HAS NOT LAUNCHED successfully ONCE. I would love to get back to using this workstation because it is absolutely SUPERB … but, well, I could use some feedback here. The app has stopped working.

****************************
Flip is working great again on iPhone. I tried suggested remedies without success and then suddenly it was just working again. I still love this app!

### 5/5 — The metronome isn’t working (Bug)

*2024-11-19, version 1.4.2*

I love this app. Do fix it :)

### 5/5 — Very Goog

*2024-01-19, version 1.4.2*

really beautiful, useful and easy to use. After 5 minutes I knew how to use it well

### 5/5 — Far more than a sampler

*2023-02-01, version 1.2.7*

I am pretty impressed with this app so far. The ability to effect each sample runs deep. I hate to even call it a sampler because it is so much more. The UI is good on a phone (have not thrown it on my iPads yet). It is easy to use as it has a pretty standard setup but still has its own identity. I have only used it for about ten minutes to give it a quick go round and so far I am pretty impressed with the depth. I have an insane amount of audio apps and have been beta testing apps for about ten years now- this one is a total keeper and worth the price. Take my word for it. If you have any issues the developer is very responsive. I am wondering why in the newest update the ‘sample store’ is being phased out. I don’t mind as I like to use my own but it scares me that this app might be abandoned or go to a subscription model. I DON’T know this-I am speculating. I just hope this this app stays around for awhile because it has some great features and I am glad it is in the top of the audio apps chart because it deserves it. Great price point too.

### 5/5 — Pure fun in your pocket

*2022-12-07, version 1.2.6*

I’m enjoying the app tremendously. Made so many loops already. Best spent $10 ever. No need to pack my OP-1 when travelling anymore. Thanks, Andrew and devs! Oh, and sampling is just effortless!

### 5/5 — BEST APP EVER HANDS DOWN

*2022-12-06, version 1.2.6*

If you’re a musician, and you don’t get this app, you’re missing out in one of the most brilliant new tools on the market. You won’t regret the money you spend. I can sit and spend hours at a time on this thing. Every time I open a new project I have a great time with it. %100 will release an album of stuff made mostly with this tool.

### 5/5 — Perfect

*2022-11-24, version 1.2.6*

Everything about this app is just so much fun. I constantly just want to open it. I love the layout/GUI. It has such a cohesive workflow/pipeline which makes the creative pathway from start to finish very enjoyable.

My only feedback at this point is if there could be a way that arming the record button just starts recording whenever you start playing and then loops upon pressing the record button again. And lastly, if in keyboard view, you could opt for the drum pads along the top instead of 2 keyboards.

Everything is just so responsive that I just turn quantize off and the performance is accurately captured every time!
Thank you for this beautiful instrument!
