### 2/5 — Not supporting older IOS phones

*2026-03-19, version 10.1*

I’m very disappointed that Flixster is choosing not to support older iPhones that do not run IOS 18 or newer. I’ve used Flixster for years, and now I can’t use it on my 8+ ( which I keep due to the max memory on it and it’s functional). Sorry to lose you, Flixster, but I’m gone.

### 2/5 — Ads before each trailer

*2026-03-05, version 11.0*

Stop prompting an ad every time before each movie trailer with another movie trailer, often times it’s the same movie trailer ad. You’re already selling me on the idea of watching a movie, do you really need ad?

### 2/5 — Useful app that steals ALL your data

*2026-03-03, version 11.0*

This app now tracks all my private data and doesn’t even work as well as it used to…deleted

### 2/5 — No REFUNDS

*2026-03-01, version 11.0*

This is a good app to know what movie is playing or to watch the trailer to read about what the movie is BUT !!!! do not any purchase tickets on this app because if you do miss your Showtime or if you couldn’t go that day, they will not refund you! I wasted $30 cause I couldn’t go family emergency and now I can’t seem to get a refund or I can’t go watch my movie at any other time… you are better off downloading the theater app and doing it from there at least they will refund you or give you a gift card to rewatch your movie.

### 2/5 — UI needs a refresh

*2026-01-04, version 10.5*

1. Where is Liquid Glass.

2. The Box office screen is ugly and dated.

### 3/5 — ImAllin4review

*2025-12-16, version 10.1*

### 1/5 — App no longer works

*2025-12-12, version 10.1*

App doesn’t work anymore. It just gives a notice to update the app, but no update is available.

### 1/5 — Versant is creepy

*2025-12-05, version 10.4*

Versant now owns this and Rotten Tomatoes, amongst others. They are a giant data mining company. Don’t use ANY of their apps or services.

### 1/5 — Will not load

*2025-12-02, version 10.1*

I have an old iPad and the app will not update or load anymore

### 3/5 — No more reviews from humans

*2025-11-21, version 10.4*

What happened? We used to be able to read reviews from human beings who had seen movies? Now all you can see is the critics and what they said. Maybe the bots got too Expensive? They do have a score for the audience but no more audience written reviews. Bring them back.

### 1/5 — Stupid app

*2025-11-20, version 10.1*

I have to update to IOS17 yet I can only get IOS16 so screw Flixster.

I can no longer use an old version as it just sends me here to DL A NEW VERSION that does not work

### 1/5 — Used to be a useful app

*2025-11-18, version 10.4*

This app now tracks all my private data and doesn’t even work as well as it used to…deleted

### 1/5 — App no longer works

*2025-11-15, version 9.9*

It gives you a notice to update the app, takes you to the App Store and it is already updated. Go back to the app same notice. Unusable.

### 3/5 — Bad privacy defaults

*2025-11-15, version 10.4*

App works fine for finding movies, screens, and buying tickets. But after opting out of data sharing it repeatedly tried to default / “continue” me back into sharing. Feels scammy, particularly with the post-purchase pop up offers.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — No user reviews.

*2026-08-06, version 11.1*

New app owners removed all past user reviews. Also disabled user reviews moving forward. No point of having audience reviews if they are made up numbers.

### 1/5 — Used to be helpful now sucks

*2026-06-27, version 11.0*

App is worthless for finding reviews for movies actually playing in theaters. Covid and streaming broke this app. Example: front page shows Ponyo in top box office instead of Toy Story 5 on second weekend. Dumb.

### 1/5 — awful

*2026-06-20, version 11.0*

always been crazy buggy. lazy low effort programming. with RT having its own app, this app is now completely worthless

### 1/5 — Glitching

*2026-06-11, version 11.0*

Don’t waste your time with this app! It will glitch and give you a showing for a random theater way out of your city then refuse to give you your money back. Happened to me twice within the same 30 minutes. Had to do an exchange but it still jacked me! Buyer beware!

### 1/5 — Too Many Ads

*2026-05-31, version 11.0*

The app has waaaay too many ads. Also how is it so many movies don’t have reviews? Or there’s reviews by critics but not an audience score? Or an audience score but not critics scores.

Huh??

### 1/5 — Dont care about your indian bollywood movies

*2026-05-22, version 11.0*

I am so sick of seeing indians everywhere in america

### 1/5 — Ads lol

*2026-02-28, version 11.0*

You now have PPC banner ads in the app? Delete.

### 1/5 — Stopped being useful for older hardware

*2026-02-01, version 10.1*

I have an iPhone 10 and this app will no longer open. App Store even sent me the older version, but there's some code I. It that forces you to the App Store.

Please update and let the app override that update setting for older phones

### 1/5 — Allows bot reviews

*2026-02-01, version 10.6*

The app used to be great. With the recent release of the Melania movie they clearly allowed their movie rating system to be flooded by bots. How can you trust their reviews now?

### 1/5 — App doesn’t work with older iPads

*2025-12-20, version 9.9*

LOL, learn how not to brick your user community by not supporting older iPads. This is the only app I own that doesn’t work on my older iPad!

I guess I am not missing much - Rotten Tomatoes reviews are garbage anyways!

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — This was a great, I just now found out it’s gone.

*2026-08-18, version 11.1*

This was a great app where you can explore and write other movies. I’ve used it for years and now I just downloaded it and found out that it doesn’t work anymore.

### 5/5 — Used for a regional chain of cinemas

*2025-12-03, version 10.4*

Using the app let me buy a ticket to a small regional chain of cinemas! I paid as a guest without signing in by using PayPal, which is good. But they captured my email address and subscribed me to Fandango and to Rotten Tomatoes. I do not remember giving my permission

### 5/5 — Surprised at such bad reviews

*2019-11-16*

But then again I suppose it depends on how you use it. Some features might be 1-star horrible and others 5-star great.

The only thing I use it for is to see what’s playing at the local theaters and the showtimes. The reason I like this app best is when you tap the theater it shows the list of movies playing and the Rotten Tomatoes and user score right there to see. And if you then tap the movie you can then read the aggregated and reviews just like you can on the Rotten Tomatoes website. You can also play the movie preview.

The other apps have these features too but you have to dig deeper to find them (e.g. in the Fandango app you have to individually tap each movie before it will show the scores). Apparently there’s something horrible about this app, but for my use it’s a 5-star app.

### 4/5 — Dark app Icon

*2025-09-30, version 10.3*

Please give us a dark app icon 🙏🏼

### 4/5 — Normally works and functions well

*2024-06-18, version 10.0*

I go to this app to pay for my seats kinda like a reservation at a restaurant but for seats at a theater and I like the convenience in it not getting that anxiety on what seats are available when you walk into a theater but there has been one big issue I have been Dealing with. I’ll pay for the tickets and a pop up of the QR code pops up but if I don’t screen shot it I loose that ticket. For some reason this app does not send over an email, so it would be helpful to send it over via text or email so that way I’m not conversing with the theater manager about how this app didn’t send over the QR code and trying to convince them that those are my seats.

### 4/5 — EDIT: App has been Fixed! (orig title: Internal Server Error - defunct app)

*2020-01-17, version 8.3.1*

I’m happy to report that this app has been updated and is now working properly as it did before! Keep up the good work!
This is the most convenient app I’ve found to view theaters, movie showtimes, rotten tomatoes reviews, DVD/BluRay releases and those releases that are coming soon. Also supports purchasing tickets through Fandango.

Original Review (when app was broken):

What started as a decent app to access Rotten Tomatoes reviews, movie showtimes and summaries has now turned into a broken and abandoned app.

Opening the app to any page shows “Internal Server Error” messages, which indicates that there is a problem server-side where this iOS app client used to access it’s data from.

After searching a bit online I found out that Flixster was acquired by Fandango in 2016, and then announced that they were completely discontinuing their service as of February 20th 2018. So this app is yet another casualty of 21st century predatory capitalism and corporate phagocytosis.

### 3/5 — Broke after update

*2026-07-30, version 11.1*

Used to use it all the time. After today’s update it’s no longer loading what seats are available.

### 3/5 — Almost Perfect

*2026-05-07, version 11.0*

A big problem with this app is when I'm watching a movie trailer in portrait and rotate my phone it automatically ends the video. Fix this and I'll give it 5 stars.

### 3/5 — No landscape mode play trailers

*2026-04-16, version 11.0*

This App stops the trailer when the phone turns horizontal into landscape mode. It’s very annoying watching a trailer on a tiny window on the phone!

### 3/5 — Good, but could be better

*2026-01-27, version 10.6*

While this app is very convenient for letting you find what movies are playing around you, and comparing showtimes at different theaters, there unfortunately does not seem to be any way to search for open captioned showtimes, and open captions aren’t listed under theater amenities. As this is a crucial piece of finding movies to see, unfortunately, despite its convenience in other aspects, Flixter will have to take a backseat for me until this oversight is resolved.
