There's no background playback, and no Picture in Picture support, which are both compounded by the fact that the app doesn't remember how far into a video you've watched when you need to put the phone down for a bit. AirPlay support is extremely rudimentary when trying to play to a different platform to avoid the phone problems. The comments section doesn't even scale to use the whole display when watching a video! Additionally, there are occasional strange technical hiccups -- right now, for example, all recent videos are showing as having a length of 0:00. The app just feels rough around the edges and unfinished, which is unfortunate because the service itself is fantastic. Being able to directly support creators and get a video feed in return is lovely, the actual video is high bitrate to a point where 1080p sometimes looks better than the competition's 4k, and I've had zero issues with buffering or failing to load. I just wish they could improve the app experience to bring it up to par with even other small services like Nebula. ### 3/5 — Needs a lot of work *2026-05-14, version 0.5.35* On the iPhone and iPad, closed captions are small and difficult to read. I can’t use the spacebar to play/pause with a keyboard. Orientation is very… confusing. I want it to stay in landscape if my iPad is in landscape. It’s difficult to read posts (not videos), as they take up most of the screen. It would be great if the video continued playing in the little window when the app is switched away from. Finally, simple navigation needs a lot of work. I would love to see background play be enabled and/or Picture in Picture be implemented. I often listen to a lot of the more podcasty formed stuff when I go for a walk or ride my bike and I’d like to have the screen off. ### 3/5 — Can’t Scrub Video *2026-03-07, version 0.5.34* Why, for all things holy can I not just tap the progress bar at the bottom and scrub through videos? It’s the most ridiculous thing that I can’t do this especially when I used to be able to use that feature. Double tapping to move forward or back a static amount of seconds is also a good feature but holy cow! If I want to use PiP, I have to watch in a browser, which is definitely not as good as the app. It also does not seem to want to AirPlay on my TV, even though my phone is able to connect to said TV via AirPlay. But sometimes it displays an image and plays audio but the video keeps freezing for sometimes up to a minute before it plays one frame and freezes again. I also can’t move the timeline on a video to go to a specific point in the video, it takes me out of the video. ### 2/5 — Buggy *2025-11-21, version 0.5.23* Love the content (The Trash Network) but the app is super buggy. In this day and age? ### 4/5 — Buggy but (mostly) works *2025-11-11, version 0.5.21* When the app first came out it was really stable but over time its become a bit buggier especially with the upgrade to IOS26 and IPhone 17 I’m sure these are all known but: 1. Minimized videos show the file name not the title (maybe intentional??) 2. Scrubbing often doesn’t work and doesn’t register any touch’s or drags 3. Videos can stall when network speed is slow and won’t pick back up. 4. Swapping in and out of the app can lead to a black screen that only disappears when you manually close the app. 5. Push Notifications aren’t always delivered 6. Loading indicators will disappear while still loading. 7. Swapping out of the app can lose any video content that was buffered and loaded but still has UI elements that indicate the video has been loaded. I know pushing IOS updates is a pain but I feel like some of these should be relatively easy fixes. ### 2/5 — Not good enough *2025-10-04, version 0.5.18* It technically works, and 1080p looks great. Sadly many basic features missing. No background play or PiP in 2025? Downloads? At least notifications work, but clicking on one is not reliable as the video hasn’t been picked up by the CDN yet… It’s not worth 3 bucks a month sadly, the content is amazing but the standards just aren’t high enough to continue paying. ### 4/5 — UI needs work *2025-09-30, version 0.5.18* I love the app because I can use it to watch The Trash Network, but the ui really needs some work. There’s no way to add anything to a watch later list, there’s not a way to sort videos oldest to newest, and it just bugs out sometimes. Other than that it’s fine for just watching goofy car and drum vids. ### 4/5 — Nothing’s perfect but this is close *2025-08-20, version 0.5.17* Amazing app with some amazing creators (Linus Media Group obviously since that’s Floatplane Media Inc.’s parent company). The app experience is pretty good I like the layout however it might throw off some people who are used to the layout used by an unnamed red company. I like that there is no integrated short vertical video feature which in my experience makes platforms feel too crowded. This app has a great community (again especially with Linus Tech Tips and other LMG owned channels). My only feed back for improvement would be add better airplay support, enable background play, enable Picture in Picture while outside the app, and add TV apps (Apple TV, Fire TV, Roku TV, Google TV, and so on), but all of those features the COO of Floatplane Media Inc. and the CTO of Linus Media Group, Luke Lafreniere, said on the August 15th, 2025 WAN Show that they want to do but it’s gonna take some time. ### 4/5 — Dankness *2025-08-13, version 0.5.17* UI is kinda sucky sometimes. Need to reply to a message? Paused. Lock your screen? Paused. It’s basically not worth using the app for me. It’s also really bad with windows on iPadOS. The window doesn’t respond well to being resized and often breaks completely. The scaling looks off. Honestly such a lazy attempt at the app. As an experience software engineer, I believe I can build a better version of it myself using React Native in matter of weeks.
