However since Aug 1 the app has been crashing every time I attempt to launch it. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling on another device with no success. I have reached out to support via multiple channels and gotten no assistance besides an acknowledgment of the issue from the Facebook admin. I have a year long subscription so I am not sure what my options are are this point. Please provide assistance or at least an update on the status of the issue. **Developer response:** Hi there, thank you for your review and we're very sorry about the technical issue you're experiencing. We identified a bug in a recent update and have now released a fix. If you’re still experiencing the issue, please delete the app from your device, reinstall it on a supported smartphone, and then log back in using the credentials linked to your account. This should allow you to launch the app and log in again. Without identifying any personal information here in this response, the Facebook group administrator did indeed pass your message on to us. They mentioned that they had asked you to contact us with your device and account details so that we could investigate. However, we haven’t yet received a helpdesk message that we can associate with this issue. If the pre-mentioned steps don't work to fix the issue, please contact us through our website by scrolling to the bottom of the page, selecting Help Center, and using the green help button in the bottom-right corner. I’m currently using it for Mandarin. Something that would make the app five stars is the possibility of creating different decks of flash cards. I have work related vocab and every day life/slang vocab, being able to study them individually would be invaluable. And they were downright rude when they sneakily charged my credit card without advance notice of a renewal. They said they sent a notice which I never received and then when I saw the credit card charge and asked to cancle and for a refund, they refused. Horrible customer service. For example adding ipa to the german video “CH as in Bach” to the title. Also, its kind of confusing wheter i have to pay extrato learn another language with in the app or if that’s even available. Overall great app though ### 2/5 — Disappointing *2026-05-23, version 1.0.128* It’s a set of random features with no apparent structure or guidance for the user. Though I will say the AI pronunciation checker is very precise and detailed. ### 2/5 — Not worth the price *2026-04-16, version 1.0.126* This app is pretty bad. I purchased a subscription because I enjoyed the book and thought it would follow along with the same main principles. However, it doesn’t. The interface is clunky. You can’t learn multiple languages at the same time. The path for learning is confusing, which I did complain about but got the runaround. The grammar explanations aren’t easy to understand. There is no ability to chat with a native speaker. I’ve been using this for a year now and, at most, it asks me to review 2 word cards per day max. That’s not very challenging. How am I learning anything? Even though Duolingo has subpar principles for learning a language, it’s a much better app and gives you a variety of learning methods. I will not be renewing my subscription and will, instead, move to paid Duolingo. ### 4/5 — My favorite language app but… *2026-04-05, version 1.0.124* I’ve been using Fluent Forever for ~5 years to learn French and more recently Spanish. I was initially drawn to the research that backs its method: spaced repetition, avoiding translating, and a focus on pronunciation (Bonjour Français), and have a recommended it to everyone I know. However, a recent introduction of AI slop images makes me concerned that the quality of the app is going to go down. I’m hoping to retain some authentic voices for me to listen to and continues a somewhat curated selection of words to learn. The thing that really sold me on this app was the idea that I picked an image that is meaningful for me that I can connect to the foreign language word, so I don’t connect that word to the English equivalent, to the concept represented by the photograph. Why would I want an image generated by an AI generically? Please don’t AI slopify the entire app. It will cost you my subscription. ### 2/5 — Flash cards *2026-02-24, version 1.0.123* The flashers images take forever to load, they give you a lot of books not images of what you searched. Thank you again for taking the time to share your feedback! ### 4/5 — Great Method, Miserable Flashcards *2026-01-20, version 1.0.122* I really really like the fluent forever methodology and I feel like when used consistently is extremely effective. And I preface this with I really like this app! One of the biggest struggles is the flashcard image selection. The pictures suggested are just usually nothing to do with the word or phrase, and if you want to choose something custom the images are very limited and some don’t load. It just takes forever. It makes me consider whether I should just use Anki. But I like the app and its guidance along and it helping with flashcard creation and such. The other thing is when trying to create my own Hebrew flashcards, they can’t include the vowel markers like the ones that come with the app, so that is hard. Lots of positives about the app and I have recommended it to many. But some burdensome negatives. ### 4/5 — Idea *2026-01-18, version 1.0.122* Please add images to flash cards make the images as big as they want on flash cards ### 4/5 — Japanese good & bad *2026-01-16, version 1.0.122* A couple of things I like about this app: ear training and vocabulary building. It works quite well for both of these, with the qualification that sometimes it has errors. For example, the word サイン means “sign” as in a signature, but the app shows images for things like stop signs, which is a different word entirely. It’s not a fatal problem, but you have to be your toes when adding words from the vocab list. Also it often shows something that it calls “dictionary form” when it is actually a conjugated form. The app is flat out wrong here. The grammar side of the app seems unfriendly to me, with a lot of grammar jargon that I forgot the decades ago. I would not like to try to learn Japanese solely from this app, but for some targeted uses, it’s decent and I do use it every day. ### 3/5 — Great potential but needs refinement *2025-12-30* Solid app with a potential, I enjoy the app but I why I don’t have an option to review my flashcards regardless of review time. There’s a list of words but no availability for cards. I would prefer to have options to type and retype the mistakes. This is because of the way our spaced repetition system (SRS) is set up. It's created this way to enhance memory formation. My account page showed I would not be charged at the end of the month and I was. Support refused to refund me despite acknowledging the false information. They try to upsell features through subscription (of course…) that you get for free when using something like Anki. Ironically the book states that making the flash cards yourself is not only fun but vital in your learning process. We understand that free tools such as Anki may be a better fit for people who prefer to build and manage every aspect of their flashcards independently. The Fluent Forever subscription also includes additional guided content and features, such as pronunciation training, vocabulary tools and grammar lessons, which are not available in free tools like Anki. The intention isn’t to prevent users from following the book’s method, but to make that method more accessible and convenient within a guided app experience. That said, we appreciate your honest feedback and understand that this approach won’t be the right fit for everyone. ### 1/5 — Everything is actually paywalled, even what was said to be free *2026-05-18, version 1.0.128* Look, maybe this is an issue on my end, I really hope it is my fault. After watching a couple of videos, trying to watch more leads to a pop up recommending that you subscribe. The same thing happens after finishing your first round of new flash cards. Despite advertising in the pop up that standard features include: all pronunciation lessons, unlimited flash cards, language learning videos, and unlimited reviews, none of this holds true. As someone who doesn’t spend money on apps, I was thrilled to see how many features were included in the free version! Unfortunately, this doesn’t hold up when put to the test. I really hope that the answer to these issues is just to buy the subscription. ### 1/5 — Too slow to be usable after the new update *2026-04-07, version 1.0.125* Please fix. Furthermore, they will not honor any refund. Avoid. ### 1/5 — Disappointing. Avoid. *2026-03-23, version 1.0.124* TLDR: Avoid. I am highly disappointed with how Fluent Forever turned out. This app was supposed to answer the fundamental question to language learners: how to learn ANY language? And it never did. If you really want to learn a language properly, use newer technology like AI to help you learn instead of this app. I am a lifetime backer of Fluent Forever via the Kickstarter back in 2022. 4 years after the promises from the Kickstarter, this app has failed on multiple counts on its core promises. Basically, the founder of FF wanted to create an app where we can learn ANY language via his principles outlined in his book “Fluent Forever” but this app has turned out to be such a waste of potential and ultimately failed to deliver. Here’s just a few examples of why your money should be spent elsewhere: 1 - You can’t learn ANY language as promised 4 years ago. You have a list of common languages to choose from but the promise to learn any language you want was never implemented. Only a flimsy “sentence” mode which is only slapped on compensation for all the promised missing features. 2 - The app has been redesigned so many times and lost it’s appeal during its initial development in order to appear more modern but in the end it was a waste of initial resources and the end result unfortunately didn’t pay off. 3 - The development has been such a let down, with only bug fixes for an entire year in 2025. It’s such a shame, and I am saddened to see that my investment as a lifetime kickstarter backer was ultimately wasted. The app has implemented some form of AI integration but like the sentence builder; it feels very tact on and was only made in a response to a changing market that the founder’s team didn’t anticipate. AI has completely changed the landscape of language learning and the market with it. Whether it’s for the best or not, it’s now a reality. As a language learner, I am no longer using Fluent Forever but using other new AI tools for my own language learning. ### 1/5 — Terrible Tech Support *2026-02-04, version 1.0.122* I’ve used this app since June 2025 and the bugs and now total black screen occurrences are awful. When you contact their support team, they give you an “order number” and basically tell you not to contact them again until they get back to you. I haven’t been able to even log in because they won’t send me a change password link when I request it. My advice is to find a different language app. ### 1/5 — Poor tech support *2026-01-28, version 1.0.122* If you have a problem with this app and you contact their tech support, they will take several days to reply to you & then will not fix the problem. It’s not “game-ified” in a way that makes it immediately easy to start like Duolingo etc., but if you put in the work on the front end to understand why the app works the way it does, you’ll get hooked in a way that is far more effective than other language apps. Pair this with regular conversation appointments on italki, and you’ll feel yourself moving towards fluency at a somewhat alarming rate. ### 5/5 — Strong Language Learning App *2025-10-02* I have lived in Spain and France for the best part of the last twenty years and I have used a variety of methods to learn a language. I have been using this app for the past week and so far I have found it to be a strong method to learn a foreign language. It is reasonable priced and it has a unique method of learning. AI apps seem all the rage at the moment but I recommend using them alongside a more structured course as well. Eventually all language learning apps will have an AI component anyway. The concept of using picture flashcards rather than word-only flashcards has made an incredible difference in helping me learn and retain vocabulary. Before, often I’d study a word dozens of times but it still wouldn’t stick in my brain. With this app I find it especially helpful when I take the time to create my own image, often using AI, and insert that into the flashcard (using the “add your own image” button rather than using one of the stock photos). For example, asking AI to generate a picture of someone jumping over a salt shaker, saving it to my photos, and then uploading that for “saltar” in the flashcards on this app. Like he said in the book, the act of creating the flashcard is incredibly helpful in cementing the meaning in my brain.
