## What is Fluent79?

Walk into your PTE Academic speaking test already knowing roughly where you stand.

Fluent79 is a focused, speaking-only practice coach built for serious candidates chasing 79+ in every band — Superior English and the maximum points on your Australia skilled-migration application.

Most prep apps spread thin across all four sections. Fluent79 does one thing properly: it makes your speaking score predictable. Practice real PTE-format speaking tasks, get an instant estimated score, and fix the one thing holding you back.

THREE SPEAKING TASKS, REAL PTE FORMAT
• Read Aloud — read a short text aloud against a prep timer
• Repeat Sentence — listen and repeat, with rotating US / UK / AU accents like the real exam
• Describe Image — study a bar, line, pie, or table chart and describe it in 40 seconds

INSTANT, HONEST SCORING
Every attempt breaks down into Fluency, Content, and Pronunciation, plus an estimated overall score on the familiar 10–90 scale. Fluency and content are measured on your device from your actual speech — speaking rate, pauses, hesitations, and word accuracy — not guessed at by an AI. Scores are clearly labelled "Estimated": they're a practice gauge to track your trend, not an official Pearson result.

ONE TIP, NOT TWENTY
After each attempt you get exactly one clear, actionable coaching tip — the single most useful change to make next. No overwhelming checklist, just the next thing to fix.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Your answers are recorded, transcribed, and scored on your device. Audio stays on your phone.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.5.1 — 2026-08-28

Sharper progress screen, and one new piece of coaching.

• New coaching tip: if you read straight past every comma and full stop, the
app now tells you. The real exam marks phrasing, not just pace.
• The progress chart no longer prints its dates on top of each other when you
practise a few days a week, and no longer cuts off the last date or the
  "Scoring updated" label.
• Redesigned sub-score cards — larger labels, clearer band names, and a fill
that reads as a gauge rather than a block.
• Fixed hard-to-read score text in light mode.

Nothing about how attempts are scored has changed in this update.

### 1.5 — 2026-08-17

More accurate scoring, and you can finally see where your fluency slipped.

• On iPhones running iOS 26, practice now uses Apple's newest on-device speech recognition. It is noticeably more accurate, especially on longer answers. You will be asked once to download the speech model.

• Pauses are now measured from your recording instead of from the transcript, so held pauses and hesitations that used to slip through are counted. Fluency now reflects how you actually sounded.

• See exactly where you paused or hesitated, marked right in the passage you read.

• New on Repeat Sentence: shadow the prompt after you are scored. Play it back and speak along — three short rounds do more for recall than one perfect attempt.

• A refreshed recording screen and Progress page: the recording animation now follows your voice, and the main controls sit within easier reach of your thumb.

• Fixed: a clean reading could occasionally be reported as containing a filler sound you never made.

Because pauses are now measured differently, scores from before and after this update are not directly comparable. Fluency can read a little lower and Pronunciation a little higher. Your Progress chart marks where the change happened. Your speaking did not change; the measurement did.

### 1.4.2 — 2026-08-01

Fairer fluency scoring, and results you can look back on.

• Fluency is fairer: pausing to breathe at a natural point in a sentence no longer counts as hesitation, and one long pause is no longer counted against you twice. Most fluency scores will rise a little.
• Fixed a glitch on the newest iOS versions where words you spoke clearly could be struck through as missed or mispronounced. Read Aloud and Repeat Sentence scores are accurate again.
• Words that sound identical but can be written more than one way — freshwater/fresh water, armour/armor, ten/10, eighteenth/18th — are no longer counted as mistakes.
• Your past attempts now show the full picture: the original text, what you said, and exactly where they differ.
• When you say a word in a different form — "prefer" instead of "preferred" — results now highlight the right word.
• Added a score guide explaining how Content, Fluency and Pronunciation are worked out, plus clearer result actions and better support for larger text sizes.

### 1.4 — 2026-07-21

A brand-new look, a fifth speaking task, and up-to-date visa score bands.

• Fluent79, redesigned: a warmer, calmer interface with a new home screen, elegant serif numerals, and a breathing orb that listens and records with you.
• NEW: Answer Short Question — 100 rapid-fire vocabulary questions with studio audio and instant right/wrong feedback, free for everyone.
• Score bands now match the current Australian visa thresholds for tests taken after 7 Aug 2025 (Speaking: 54 Competent / 76 Proficient / 88 Superior).
• Tap any highlighted word on your results to see exactly what we heard you say.
• Pronunciation lookups now answer in a couple of seconds — around 2× faster than before.
• Fixed an error that could stop scoring for some users, depending on how their network reached our servers.
• Smoother, more reliable screens: fixed a freeze-prone transition and a stutter when starting a recording.

### 1.3 — 2026-07-15

Share your score — and scoring that's tougher to fool.

• Share your result as a score card, straight to WhatsApp, Telegram, or Instagram — tap the share button on any results screen.
• Fairer content scoring: extra words you add now count against Content, just like in the real exam.
• Describe Image and Retell Lecture pronunciation scores now reflect purely how clearly you speak, not which points you covered.
• Fixed a stuck spinner when clearing a pronunciation search mid-lookup.
• The screen no longer dims while you listen to a Retell Lecture or prepare to speak.
• A recording that's too short to score no longer uses up one of your daily attempts.
• Reliability: leaving a screen while your attempt is being analysed no longer records a stray result, and re-downloadable audio no longer bloats your iCloud backup.
