### 4/5 — Almost perfect

*2026-02-20*

It would be great if there was an option to adjust the Layer field on the left and right for each of the three grains. Unfortunately, the Layer field setting can only be adjusted for all three together.

### 4/5 — A very intuitive granular

*2023-11-18*

Fluss works, at least for me, because like so much of Hainbach’s corpus, it’s grounded in tactile concepts: rebounding particles, tape loops, slow, slow, SLOW time. If that’s what you’re after, it’s a great tool for creating evolving spatial and temporal textures.

That said, I can’t give it five stars because of a GLARING (to me anyway) flaw: it stops playing audio if you put it in the background. This means I can’t use an external plugin (like Lines or Filterjam, or BlindEQ) along with it, and that’s exactly what I want to do with it. That said, if you aren’t looking to multitask with it on the ipad, it’s a great means to that glitchy but also soft focus sound.

### 5/5 — it’s great

*2023-08-27*

yes, sounds wonderful

### 5/5 — Very Impressive (after exploring)

*2023-06-07*

Initially I was not impressed by this. Usually I am underwhelmed, as an iphone developer, by gimmicky new ways to slide your fingers across the “no-so-precise” touchscreen of apples generalized 40pxl radius to work with. This usually makes it so apps like this are good in theory or on paper but not so great in experience.
No so with Fluss. I was going about my initial use of this all wrong, trying to maintain consistent control instead of letting go. This tool will help you let the process just flow or .. fluss. Good Job from Bram and bach with this one.

### 4/5 — Beautiful app, I wish I could use it in my DAW

*2023-03-14*

I love playing around with this amazing app. The sounds they give you to use are great. That said, I wish I could incorporate this easily into my Logic workflow (yea, I know there are ways but it all seems quite complicated to be honest). Any chance we could get a plugin version of this?

**Developer response:** Hi there, thanks for the review. Well, Fluss actually is a plugin already. You can use the Audio Unit version in any iOS DAW/host - both as an instrument and as a live effect.

### 5/5 — Soundscapes made easy

*2023-02-25*

Whether you use the presets or your own soundfiles : Soundscapes made very easy! Highly recommended!

### 5/5 — Excellent!

*2023-02-11*

A really exciting and accessible app. I have been look for something just like Fluss for ages. Brilliant for creating or generating evolving soundscapes whilst benefiting from the rich waveform possibilities of sampling. I love it!

### 4/5 — Limitless sonic possibilities

*2023-01-07*

This is the latest app from Bram Bos and Hainbach, whose previous release Gauss was a very interesting piece of work. This time they've released a granular synthesiser and it's wonderful! I've spent several hours diving in and messing around, manipulating sounds with the controls within the app, and it works as a live processor too, a little bit like a very powerful delay. Please ignore the one star review from someone called MrGroozy. He's completely misunderstood the app, hasn't really tried it out, and totally doesn't understand the nature of granular synthesis. Yes, there are loads of built-in presets that you can play with, but you can record or import literally any sounds - some muesli being poured into a bowl, the wind in the trees, an elephant doing a plop, whatever you like, and the app will create something new from it that no one on the planet has ever heard. Would have been five stars for sure but the user manual is really disappointing. It's just one page long. It could have been SO much more and could have given a lot more insights into how to get the best out of the app. As it stands, it really only skims the surface and tells you what each button/control does. Anyway, it's a great piece of work and Fluss itself is absolutely brilliant. A must-buy for sure! You can lose yourself for hours, days even, in the limitless sonic possibilities that it offers.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the review! I'm already working on a slightly more extended user guide which will go into some of the more frequently asked questions we've received these past few weeks. I will upload it when the next update goes live. Have a great day!

### 5/5 — Toll!!!

*2023-01-06*

### 5/5 — OK, the excitement’s explained - ‘flick-ochet’ invented!

*2023-01-03*

I’ve used this for 7 minutes. So I am just giving it five stars right away to recognise a genuine other-level of touch interface use that’s been implemented here. It’s not just tap, double-tap, but also flick-and-ricochet - a ‘flickochet’ control? Yes, I claim the credit for coining this term I think.

Think of your favourite echo or delay or tremolo unit, but able to take your sliding of the control to make various settings, not a ‘static’ thing. In other words, you shove the delay time say, hard across the screen, and it ricochets around, constantly adjusting that setting in real time. It’s like that ping-pong game of old, and the shove and ricochet you induced, slowly decays away after you let go. So the control WILL sit still, if your last touch was static, held for a split second in that position - but you can swipe quickly and the ping-ponging begins, a dynamic ricochet that slowly like a rubber ball bouncing, decays in its movement.

So, after just seven minutes, I get the basic idea. I was not sure how this needed 405Mb, after all many delays are like, 15Mb or so. This clever shove-and-ricochet behaviour of the control sliders and joysticks is what all the fuss is about and why it takes nearly half a Gb (I mean, it’s a cross-hair and a circle dead centre of it, but this is what it would physically be in hardware).

It pretty much obeys the laws of physics, the bouncing-around controls thing. It decays like you’d expect, and probably there’s a subtle setting that prolongs that decay - there’s certainly a ‘friction’ adjustment for something, which in engineering might be termed ‘damping level’ that you can apply. A genuine innovation, refinement and moving-forward of touch interface implementation. What a great thing - wouldn’t like to try it with a mouse, usable, but effort compared to the iPad and iPhone touch-screens. Go Bram Bos and Hainbach, a brilliant piece of sonic jiggery-pokery!

### 5/5 — Best music app I’ve ever used

*2022-12-30*

I recently experienced a serious injury, and I have been unable to play my normal instruments. This app has brought back the joy of making music for me. Thank you for making something so beautiful and brilliant!

### 5/5 — Very Fun!

*2022-12-26*

Overall, this is an amazing implementation of granular synthesis. Fluss is very fun to use and the integration with the touch interface toward modulation is particularly innovative. That said, the more I like it, the more I want Fluss2!

Specifically, I would love more clock and tempo syncing options, particularly around when grains are triggered (like on Beads). But also, when using Fluss as a processor, some more visualization of the buffer, playback head speed, and modulation, in terms of tempo rather than time.

The quantizer also begs for more visualization. I’d love to see the boundaries shown in the XY control for notes! And if that gets too keyboard-y and not Buchla enough, you could make the boundaries into shapes, or even allow the user to change the layout to keep it super creative. Basically keeping the fun randomness, but allowing for a biiiiiit more control, when desired.

Further, while the touch interface is very innovative, I found it a bit sensitive. Very easy to cause the controls to move too fast. You can use the friction control to slow things down, but that seems to slow everything down. Would be nice to have a global friction and a separate sensitivity option so flicking a slider could only apply a maximum amount of force.

Lastly, being able to apply modulation to a specific play head would be huge. So one head could be making bigger grains and another smaller, for example.

Well done!

### 1/5 — Crashes

*2025-07-20*

It worked first time then the screen is black, so I think it crashes , I restarted and it was black again

### 1/5 — Dissapointed

*2025-04-05*

Can’t hear the output no matter what. Tried closing the app, restarting my device, redownloading and nothing.

### 1/5 — iPhone 12 Betaware!

*2024-03-11, version 1.3*

Update: Actually, it DOES NOT. It says import wave files standalone and AUv3. That’s a long way from stating that it’s an AUv3 instrument ONLY and has broken features because of small-minded designers. Don’t worry, I won’t waste my money on your products in the future. ———— Terribly hard to read on iPhone 12. Actually, impossible to read. Genetic defect in all developers to use too small to ‘comfortably’ read. It’s called eyestrain. There’s plenty on room to use readable font. It won’t play in the background and it resets to default settings if put in the background! Junk designed on the iPhone! Apparently standalone mode can’t play audio in the background and has no setting even, at least that I can find. Nor is such in the embarrassing dumb design, the cheap block of pages like found in cheap $30 DVD box. Search is next to useless, dah! And, again, it’s too small. iPhone UI wastes way too much space. As far as iPhone 12 this is betaware and embarrassing poor design. Sound experimentation with granular sound synthesis is very good as is the quality of presets provided. But for iPhone 12 UI design, is very lacking. Very embarrassing from what was a fairly reliable group. Not anymore.

### 1/5 — Pas terrible

*2023-05-12*

Spacecraft en beaucoup mais beaucoup moins bien , une perte d’argent si vous avez déjà spacecraft ou gauss

### 1/5 — Suche noch granulator schwierig

*2023-04-01*

Der von ableton wird der beste bleiben
Es kommt nichts im App Store ran was so wenig cpu benötigt
Schade dass alle Apps immer in Features Missen
Hier mangels Datenmanagement unbrauchbar

### 1/5 — A rather strange concept

*2022-12-20*

It appears quite apparent to myself at least, that this was very much the vision of a musician that wishes to create a particular “sound” and the issue I have is not with the idea itself, it is the distribution of the idea to others as “one’s own” That is to say, what this is capable of was not my idea and I find it extremely difficult to escape the limitations of the very specific “sound” as a result. It’s a bit like being offered someone else’s imagination but the price to pay for such an offer is that one simply cannot escape the boundaries of said imagination. This, I believe is where one might suggest the argument that it is in fact an “instrument” but I think this is to miss the point I’m making - I am suggesting that the most significant accomplishment in terms of creativity has been accomplished, not by myself, but by the creator. I simply can’t escape the feeling that I’m “playing” someone else’s imagination and not my own…………….OK, I’ll make this as simple as possible, the app has no syncing options and without it, it is purely an ambient sample machine, it makes little difference what samples are used.

**Developer response:** Hi, thanks for the review. Indeed, the presets are all the signature sound design of Hainbach, but you can easily import your own sounds, or load the plugin as an effect processor to make it very much “your own”.

Giving it one star means it has no redeeming qualities and doesn’t function properly. That seems very harsh and unreasonable. But I guess that’s the world we live in today. Happy holidays.

**Developer response:** This app was made to be used as an Audio Unit plugin, as is clearly stated in the App description. In standalone mode it is perfectly usable for making presets, but it is optimised to be part of a plugin setup. This is what the UI is designed and optimised for.

In fact, it does import wave files in standalone. I’m not sure why you’re claiming it does not.

### 3/5 — Not enough control, too juch chaos.

*2025-03-02*

Just for chaos freaks and hardcore droners. I really miss more control, direction of grains, bpm settings stuff on the controls etc. It would have been great for me, if we could go from clean sample sound to something new. FRMS and other plugs made me WAY more happy, tbh. Nothing wrong with Bram and Hainbach, but it's not for me, also not as an fx, which could have been nice.

I regret that I bought it 😓

### 3/5 — Not sure about this yet

*2022-12-08*

Perhaps it’s early days? Perhaps there’s more to come? Perhaps I just don’t ‘get it’ yet? I’ve always been super-impressed with everything I’ve purchased from Bram Bos - but not this one yet. I’ve played around with the preset sounds and sounds of my own but what I seem to end up with is something that sounds remarkably like the sort of thing you’d get if you were playing with the tuner on your short-wave radio. A bit like the kind of stuff Stockhausen messed around with in ‘Hymnen.’

Also, it’s a bit of a battery-drainer. 10 minutes and my iPad Pro has lost 20% of it’s charge.

**Developer response:** Hi there, thanks for the review. The app was designed to match Hainbach's technique of live performance (he's actually been using it live for a few months already). Check out his demonstration video on Youtube to learn how to get the most out of the instrument :-)

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Amazing!

*2026-06-06*

This is just extraordinary. I found it really hard to stop playing with it. Watch Hainbach’s YT video to get started then just have fun.

### 5/5 — WOW

*2026-03-23*

Hammer

### 5/5 — This thing mangles your sound, and I’m here for it!

*2025-08-10*

One use for this app is to take original compositions and put a unique twist on them. Another is to use your voice (or someone else’s) and warp it into who-knows-what? It is possible to record sounds directly into the app, although I tend to prefer using existing sound files.

This thing is a bloomin’ playground! Great for soundscapes, which I’m only now later in life starting to experiment with. I am nowhere near fluent with granular synths, so reading others’ comments regarding improvements and alterations is interesting to me — stuff I never thought of.

But I’m going with a win-win on this one — and you can’t go wrong with the price point, either!

### 5/5 — good

*2025-01-19*

this is pretty good, i made sounds with it

### 5/5 — What a lovely instrument. Can I add more than 5 stars?

*2024-11-20*

Bram / Hainbach,

This instrument is a literal blast to play with and explore sounds you’d never think of to make on your own. I know it’s technically an app, but it’s so playable, so musical.

I’m happy to know there’s still iOS Apps being developed utilizing the touch screen format in this fun/intuitive way. It’s how apps should be on these touch screen devices. Well done.

I nearly fell off my bed when I shook the app and everything bounced around. Brilliant!

Can’t wait to see if another collab comes out! If so, maybe Nuclear Drums? Atomic Loops?

I don’t know what that means or what I’m saying. But it’s staying on this comment. If that brings any inspiration then dope!

Thank you for this and again, well done! Cheers.

### 5/5 — I Scared Myself

*2024-09-29*

Used this in conjunction with the Rozeta midi sequencer suite particularly the Particles & Collider plug ins. Started working on a cold dark September morning making my own horror flick soundtrack then had to stop because it was so realistic I freaked myself out.

### 5/5 — Erstaunlich gut!

*2024-08-27*

Klingt top und ist sehr bedienbar!

### 5/5 — Fluss is cool

*2024-08-01*

I recently discovered using it as an input processor effect, and we tried it on my friends violin. We got the coolest lush shimmer going. Definitely worth having for granular opportunities.

### 5/5 — An incredibly unique app

*2024-04-10*

This is a tool to use with other tools as a control surface,a sampler, and a highly intuitive granular synthesis musical instrument... Please keep making your apps. Your designs are Absolutely Amazing!!!!!

### 5/5 — 🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨

*2023-12-18*

Very awesome app can you Please add recording ability from the internal microphone
