I suppose the only redeeming factor is that it is free. Glitchy doesn’t even begin to describe it - it spends five or ten minutes ‘looking for IP address’ before it fails completely. I am not sure if I am more confused as to why an app that can’t even launch was released or why an app of this nature needs to find an IP address.... ### 1/5 — Worthless. Can’t even log in *2018-06-26, version 1.3* Open the app and it sits on “Getting IP address — please wait” indefinitely. Restarted phone, reopened app, same thing. Ridiculous. Why would Fluval even release such a piece of junk? ### 1/5 — 2.0 controller *2018-06-11, version 1.3* This is a big joke junk as always thought we would try one more thing that they made but as always they are consistent at making junk products got to give them credit for that. ### 1/5 — WiFi connectivity doesn’t work *2018-04-30, version 1.3* Fluval app always gives me an “impossible to get an IP address...check your WiFi settings” error message. My WiFi is working just fine. What a joke. ### 2/5 — Work in progress by Fluval *2017-02-27, version 1.3* Works until lights start going on in the middle of night. The temporary fix is to connect to the controller and re-save the settings and everything goes back to normal (for a week or two). It feels like a buggy firmware which I don't have ways to update. Fluval support is going to exchange the unit, maybe newer version (if there is such a thing) will fix the issue. I will add to this review once I have a newer unit to work with. Otherwise I will replace it with a simpler timer and be done with a "smart" features. ### 1/5 — Lights nice,app is horrible *2017-02-18, version 1.3* Every time you want to use it you need to disconnect your phone from your normal home wifi and create a standalone network between the light and your phone. Imagine walking into your bathroom and to turn on the light you needed to press 10 different switches all in the proper sequence just to turn on a single light. The designer of this app should be unemployed. ### 1/5 — Garbage! *2016-07-25, version 1.3* Cannot get the moon light feature to work under auto mode. By design, you have to change wifi networks as it creates its own. Horrible job by Fluval! Very little design work went into this piece of junk! Sometimes when logging on to change schedule to see if it will work correctly, if the lights are on they cut completely off, if off they come on full bright. It’s really annoying that when used on an iPad (to the extent that I can say that, as I’ve never had much success with an iPad versus an iPhone), the display insists on being in portrait format no matter what orientation you hold your iPad. Those of you who have problems with the app and set up. Just watch the YouTube video. It was really easy to hook up and program as long as I followed the YouTube video. Needed better instructions in the package. ### 4/5 — I like it *2017-05-01, version 1.3* Just set up the WiFi yesterday. I need to tweak my settings, but I like it. Today was an all day rain event, so this morning I set my day light percentage low with the cloud effect. I think the fish and coral look appreciative to the more natural lighting. Tonight I'm setting the daylight percentage back to full for tomorrow as it will be a clear day. I hope there will be some updates and new things added to the app in the near future. Eg... preset; storm with lightning effect, rainy day etc. Just don't make the product and forget about it after release. Added bells and whistles equal future sales. ### 4/5 — Works great! *2016-02-21, version 1.3* It was very easy to set up. The cloud effect function is very cool. Lots of programming options. My only two complaints are that you have to set the program for each light individually, would be nice to use one program for each light. The other complaint is that it does not run off your existing network. The module creates its own network and it can be a pain to switch from your home network to the fluval network. ### 4/5 — Easy to setup *2016-01-19, version 1.3* Very easy to program however the wifi signal is a little weak. You have to be close to the receiver when you program the light. The irrational part of this app is the "night/moon" light schedule. - The name of the settings are confusing: how on earth the night could start at sunrise and stop at sunset???? - it is impossible to schedule anything past midnight in the "night/moon light" settings, I think the developer forgot that the night time includes midnight and all the hours between sunset and sunrise. The good point is for the gradual sunsets and sunrises which I do not have to do manually anymore. The cloud effect is kind of annoying, I wish I could choose a pattern and a schedule for it. Another hint for a future update: please give us the ability to check the current time on the controller, it is weird not knowing if it will work on time or not. Regarding the wifi, I would say that I do not modify my settings all the time, so being close to the module when needed is not of a concern. ### 3/5 — Not bad *2016-02-15, version 1.3* App not intuitive but the YouTube instruction video helpful. The wifi controller is another story. It burned out my ballast. Connectivity issues as well. This company needs to hire someone that knows what they are doing. Lights still have issues. App has issues. Instead of fluval fixing them, they instead make the 3.0 So disappointed. ### 2/5 — Works, but V E R Y glitchy setting up *2018-12-02, version 1.3* I’ve been trying for 30 minutes to change my settings on it to deal with an algae bloom. There are so many hurdles you have to get over, such as slow connection times, “invalid IP” errors, “cannot connect”, JUST to log in, and when you finally get logged into the app when you try to select a light it frequently crashes, disconnecting you and restarting the process. I’m using both channels and what should be a simple process becomes a redundant sequence of errors and crashes. ***However*** That being said, once you get through the pain of setting up the timer through a subpar app design, the timer works consistently and I’m impressed with the ability to adjust intensity, as well with the sunset feature that dims the lights at a steady rate. -> Some things I don’t like is the spin wheel feature to change the time, and the fact that it’s set to 24HR on the spin wheel, but in all the displays it is not. Why the inconsistency? Also it’s pretty dumb you can’t change the settings without being connected to the device.
