## Newest reviews (15 of 40)

### 2/5 — Horrible layout compared to previous app.

*2026-04-01, version 1.0.8*

Much prefer the other app. But unfortunately, the reef 4.0 requires this app.

### 2/5 — Needs updates

*2026-03-09, version 1.0.8*

Love the lights but the app almost never gets updated and trying to stay logged in is another problem. Good luck with the app if you do sign in trying to get everything to save and change is another problem.

### 2/5 — Where are the features?

*2026-03-05, version 1.0.8*

I’m baffled by the most expensive light doesn’t get WiFi control. Also your website says you have aquarium maintenance on this app and is advertised, but where is it? Not to mention why do I constantly have to keep logging back in.

I want to love this app, but this app needs lots of work and to not be misled based on advertisements on website. Also can we get an option to not have it in military time as well

### 1/5 — App crash after update

*2026-02-09, version 1.0.7*

After my iPhone went through its recent update I am unable to turn on my light with this app. When I select the light to turn on, the circle goes around for a of couple seconds and then crashes. App is gone and I am back to my Home Screen. Really disappointed as I have not even had this light for 1yr and it is not cheap. I thought for sure it was garbage now but thank goodness the older app FluvalSmart actually works. It sucks that the app is not as nice but at least I can still use my light for now. I am worried for next update.

### 2/5 — Should be Better

*2026-02-08, version 1.0.7*

New update crashes for 1st gen lights. With the app being the only option to controls light that are this expensive the app should be much better.

### 1/5 — App crashing

*2026-02-07, version 1.0.7*

Was good at first. I’m using all 1st gen fluval 3.0 and aquasky 2.0… and it worked beautifully … now when I go to the manual mode, it just crashes. I went back to fluval smart… app is not as polished but at least it works consistently

### 1/5 — Junk

*2026-02-07, version 1.0.7*

I can’t even turn my
Lights on bc this app is so bad it just force closes every time

### 1/5 — Update Issue

*2026-02-07, version 1.0.7*

My connect app just closes out to my phone home screen everytime I select the light I want to connect to. Seems like this recent app update 24 hrs ago maybe has some bugs.

### 1/5 — Terrible Update

*2026-02-06, version 1.0.7*

Can’t even connect to my light anymore after the update. I tried deleting the app, resetting the light, reconnecting the light and nothing works. I open the app, click on the target light, a buffer popup appears and the app crashes. Really a shame that such an expensive and decent light uses some of the worst optimized software. Also the UI/UX of the app feels so clunky and awkward.

### 1/5 — Latest update crashing when connecting to aquasky 2.0

*2026-02-06, version 1.0.7*

The latest update causes the app to crash when connecting to an aquasky 2.0 on the Fluval flex 32.5g.

No way to control your lights anymore.

### 1/5 — Downgrade from prior app

*2026-01-17, version 1.0.6*

Why you would ever use a radial control for lighting percentages without a
number entry is mind boggling. Trying to get a precise percentage is annoying as hell. Also weird move to use actual wavelength colors in the UI, most people will be a little lost here. Poor app overall, boo.CasuAquarius’s are looking for

### 1/5 — Horribly made

*2026-01-15, version 1.0.6*

for what is considered arguably the best aquarium light on the market, this app
sucks. it makes no sense to me, the features are useless and weird. Idk it makes me feel like i’m on a fake app
or something and I never use it because I don’t see the point. I would much rather have a remote for the light or something. Disappointing but the light is great

### 2/5 — App just crashes

*2025-12-24, version 1.0.6*

The app seems to be easy enough to operate when it works. I’ve had zero issues with the UI. My issue stems from the app just failing to open and crashing. Would have no problem changing my review to 4 or even 5 stars if the app just worked.

### 1/5 — Unable to use

*2025-11-17, version 1.0.6*

Very frustrating

### 2/5 — Horrible App with good potencial.

*2025-11-10, version 1.0.6*

App is designed to be very customizable and powerful, but to make it happens it needs to work at least.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Horrible Programmers

*2026-05-31, version 1.0.9*

Crashes constantly

### 1/5 — Poorly Made

*2026-05-19, version 1.0.8*

Crashes often, lots of bugs, and many features that were just never thought through but advertised as complete. I might even call this a scam.

### 1/5 — Terrible app. Everyone at Hagen should be euthanized.

*2026-05-17, version 1.0.8*

They will not fix anything, and it’s been years with dozens of glaring bugs. The light will randomly lose connection, switch to Bluetooth instead of wifi, shut off, settings get wiped etc etc etc. there are literally more broken features than functional ones. And to top it off, the light is designed so that when settings are changed/modes are switched, the light goes to max brightness and flashes on and off three times which is….. great for the stress of livestock. Did homo ergaster design the software for this thing? What is going on in Germany?

### 1/5 — Good product, horrible app

*2026-05-17, version 1.0.8*

Connected once, then failed to connect after a couple of launches. Went through the process of uninstalling and reinstalling only to have it not connect.

If you purchased this product, return it for one with a better app, it’s 2026, come on.

### 1/5 — Unstable Connection

*2026-05-10, version 1.0.8*

Expensive freaking light for it to not stay connected. Can’t update the app either, trying to set up a 60 gallon with a junk light.

### 1/5 — Ai 2026 - Fix the App

*2026-03-11, version 1.0.8*

Ai in 2026 is good enough that you guys could fix the features overnight. What is goin on???? This app does not match the quality of the light. Competition will take over of you don’t fix this thing ASAP, one night of work!

### 1/5 — App does not work and now light stopped working

*2026-03-10, version 1.0.8*

I just bought the reef 4.0 today Mar 9, 2026 got it home worked great really like it then downloaded the app for the ability to create a schedule and the app crashes and won’t config and also shut down my light to the point we can’t turn it on any more just sits and a green power light.

### 1/5 — Fire the developers

*2026-02-15, version 1.0.8*

It’s very clear Fluval developers lack the skill to one, bundle different devices. Why do I need two apps? Why not one Fluval app that allows different devices? Two, my percentage of light on my marine 4.0 light settings doesn’t work any longer. Now I can’t type in a light percentage I must manually adjust it. Overall just very dissatisfied with the software side of Fluval and I will no longer buy or support Fluval products. I have a YouTube channel too and I think it’s time to highlight these major flaws. Basically renders the lights useless. Is it that hard to create a schedule and allow you to set a percentage? My three year old could code this in five minutes.

### 1/5 — Crashes now

*2026-02-11, version 1.0.7*

Newest update causes app to crash. Can’t control my lights

### 1/5 — Broken with last update

*2026-02-10*

Whatever you did with the last update, now I can’t use this app to control my lights because it just crashes to the home screen when I try to connect. If you’re going to have such a poor quality app, then at least open up the communication details so hobbyists can code their own working app. It was at least 3 stars before, now I can’t even give it a zero because it is literally, functionally worthless. At least I can use the previous app to control my light because I have a first gen model. I feel bad for owners of newer lights who are forced to use this version as you’ve effectively rendered them unprogammable. This is just inexcusable for a light that costs a couple hundred dollars.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — So far so good!

*2025-11-20, version 1.0.6*

Bought a 3.0 off marketplace and downloaded the app, put the lights on and it’s been great. I like how easy it is to change the day cycles. Optimistic about my purchase!

### 5/5 — Wonderful

*2025-07-06, version 1.0.5*

It took me a few minutes to get it and once I did I felt a bit silly. Very well done Fluval!

### 5/5 — Great, User-Friendly App!

*2025-04-06, version 1.0.3*

This app is really nice. I like the changes made, especially making it much easier for us to set our percentages. Connected to my Plant 3.0 with no issues. I think one thing to may consider in the future would be allowing us more than 10 time points in pro mode, but nevertheless this app is a huge improvement and I enjoy it very much.

### 5/5 — Beaucoup mieux que l’ancienne version

*2025-03-12, version 1.0.3*

Beaucoup mieux que l’ancienne version .

### 4/5 — Different.

*2026-07-14, version 1.0.9*

Different than what I’m used too. I would prefer a remote of some sort, the Bluetooth on my end took a long time to connect

### 4/5 — No wifi

*2025-12-27, version 1.0.6*

Works great when you’re at home, but so does a light switch lol no way to check on your light when you’re at work / on vacation

### 4/5 — Stable with some quirks

*2025-08-17, version 1.0.5*

I've been using the previous app for several years so here's a few notes for this new app. We don't need the 3 squares at the top (All, Light, Light BT) taking any space, just get rid of that. We need a way to manually sort the lights. The plus button needs to be moved, it’s in the way of some of my lights. The bottom buttons can also be made smaller to free up more space for viewing all lights. Try and use the screen real estate as efficiently as possible. The overall feel of the app is great and I’m liking the additions to this app. Just needs a couple fixes and I’m really hoping fluval keeps up with it. Thanks

### 3/5 — Remote Access is Necessary

*2026-05-27, version 1.0.9*

This app works fine for me and gives me the control I need over both my Marine 3.0 and Reef 4.0. - while I’m at home. But since it has no internal clock, it doesn’t know what to do when the power returns after an outage. So it really needs to provide remote access. One way to do this is an internal computer. Another would be to make it Möbius or Apex MXM aware. But please do something , because even a momentary outage makes the Fluval lamp a boat anchor.

### 3/5 — Broken with last update

*2026-02-22, version 1.0.8*

Thanks for fixing the crash-to-homescreen bug in the last update. The app is now working again. However, I can’t give this thing more than three stars. There are some very questionable UX design choices in this app. Please do better with your QA before you push out updates.

### 3/5 — Works, could be better

*2025-04-07, version 1.0.3*

App does the job with a plant 3.0. It would be more convenient for it to default to the number pad when changing intensities. Also would be convenient to stay logged in and not have to agree to the user terms when using on/ across different devices. Being able to go into portrait mode and zoom into the graph would be a nice addition as well for smaller screens.
