### 4/5 — Works well

*2024-04-22*

Maybe the app has been updated, but I find the navigation to be quite simple and straightforward. Tap on a cover to open the issue, swipe left and right to turn pages, tap a page to bring up the menus. Pretty easy. Excellent content.

### 2/5 — Hard to use

*2024-03-22*

This app is hard to use and navigate. It’s in desperate need of a makeover and more clear navigation options.

### 1/5 — Guess I picked the wrong time to subscribe

*2022-02-25, version 7.0.2*

I think the problem is in their backend somehow. I subscribed to the electronic edition through the flytyer.com web site, but I got an acknowledgment that said I was subscribed to Grays Sporting Journal. I downloaded that app as well. The instructions given in the acknowledgment do not work for either app.

I put my email and zip code into their customer service form, and it comes back with my account information, (both GSJ and FT) but there is no way to access it on the web..

### 1/5 — Fraud

*2022-02-24, version 7.0.2*

I’m honestly surprised that Apple allows this app to remain in the store . I have ha this app for years and now I am locked out of all the content that I have paid for. Seriously, pull this down. It’s obvious that you’re just taking people’s money.

### 1/5 — What digital access?

*2022-02-22*

TERRIBLE customer service. It took over a week for customer service to respond to my complaint that I could not access my digital subscription. After responding, they said I’d have access in 24-48 hours. That was about 4 days ago…still no access. Who cares how good the content might be if you can’t access it! Very disappointed in the process, or lack thereof. This seems fundamental. Don’t bother subscribing until this is fixed.

### 1/5 — Accessing Digital

*2022-01-31*

Just subscribed a couple of days ago for both digital and print versions. I downloaded this app as instructed and all copies remain locked on preview only. After preview it said to either register or sign in. I thought I would be registered by subscribing however after 3 days of trying to follow instructions given , I decided to call customer service. I waited on hold for 30 minutes before somebody to me that I would have to follow the directions in the confirmation email. There is nowhere to “register” or “sign in” on the app to unlock digital versions. I will attempt another call tomorrow to their “tech” department.

### 1/5 — Account information

*2022-01-27, version 7.0.2*

I have no way of signing in my account to take advantage of the subscription!!

### 1/5 — Should have listened

*2022-01-05, version 7.0.2*

I subscribed to the paper and digital version. I could not log in. It took me a lot of searching to find customer support. After waiting on the phone, the rep couldn’t help with the digital problem and transferred me to the tech representative. He said he couldn’t fix the problem but would have his supervisor correct the problem in 24 hours…………..

### 1/5 — Completely Useless

*2020-09-10, version 7.0.2*

Tried to find a recipe or video in current issue, no joy

### 1/5 — Do not buy

*2020-06-10, version 7.0.2*

Horrible app wants to keep resetting and not worth it

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2020-04-04, version 6.0.16*

Paid my subscription and can't even get logged on to my account. Keeps coming up with can't find server and other messages. I should never of paid for the digital subscription. The paper copy of the magazine is excellent.

### 1/5 — DO NOT buy!!!

*2020-03-21*

It’s a ripoff if you happen to subscribe through the app, and nothing through the magazine itself. NO WAY to restore purchases or contact the developer via the app itself. I changed devices because the old iPad from 2012 bit it, and am now without 8 years of paid for content.

And forget about contacting support through the app, it’s just not there. Contact developer through the Apple store just leads to the Magazine webpage, and they’re sympathetic but useless.

### 1/5 — getting tired

*2020-03-10*

now getting tired with the fact that EVERY TIME the app gets updated it breaks.

I've lost track of the number of times I have to re-download the magazines and customer support is now almost non-existant.

1 star because the content is worth reading - but the app is flakey at best.

### 1/5 — What happened to all past and current issues?

*2020-02-27, version 7.0.2*

Seemed as though things were fixed for about two to three issues. Now we’re back to no way to recover back issues. No recognition of updated subscription. What a rip off. I feel as though I have had more than a decade of payments stolen with not even one magazine to read.

### 1/5 — Digital Subscription Not Working

*2019-12-29, version 7.0.2*

Not happy with the digital subscription. I am not receiving my digital issues. Getting lame responses from customer service.

### 1/5 — Should go back to the old version

*2019-11-22*

I lost all my magazines since the upgrade to the new version of the app.

Restore purchases do not work.

### 1/5 — THIEVES TAKE YOUR $ WITHOUT PROVIDING CONTENT!

*2019-11-12, version 7.0.2*

I had three year’s worth of subscriptions here, and now I can’t access them. They aren’t even visible since the update. I want what I paid for! WHY UPDATE THE APP? IT STILL DOESN’T WORK!

### 1/5 — Missing editions.

*2019-11-05*

Same as Fly Rodder. Missing 2015 to 2018 editions.

### 1/5 — Unable to restore purchases

*2019-11-05, version 7.0.2*

The restore feature on the app doesn’t work. I am afraid that I have lost all previous purchases.

### 1/5 — Why don’t you fix things!

*2019-10-30*

Ever since you made changes on line I can no longer see my PAID subscription and now can’t even get any response to my email about it !

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Does not work

*2025-02-14*

Have followed every piece of guidance and contacted them. Just does not work!

### 1/5 — Caveat Emptor

*2025-02-11*

Beware of this app. I was a subscriber for a couple of years until the website stopped accepting my credentials. Have resubscribed (and paid) three times now and still no access…so enough. Good magazine but the digital app is a rip-off. Don’t touch it (unless you feel like making donations to Morris Communications).

### 1/5 — Cannot access online version

*2025-01-05*

Paid for one year online and printed versions. Cannot access online version. Promises that it will be fixed in 72 hours. Over and over but no change. Can’t change password, can’t do anything online, it only has an option of paying more money - $18.99. In a year, and many complaints I have only received one printed version. Failure on all levels. Disappointed.

### 1/5 — Very Disappointed

*2024-08-23*

I have subscribed to Fly Tyer magazine for a digital subscription for a number of years and have had no problem reading the digital form … until now.
Back in April, I went to read the latest edition and was asked to login to my subscription. I entered my login and password and got the message ’Failed to login’. I emailed customer service, advising them of my issue and the emailed me back advising me to delete the app, download it again and retry. I did this to no avail. They then advised my to enter my email address as login and password, but this didn’t work either. Over the subsequent months I kept emailing them by they never resolved my problem. In the end I asked for a credit as they couldn’t resolve my access issues, which they did.
I then thought, perhaps if I resubscribe using a different email address, I might be able to access their digital magazine again. I did this and received an email confirming my subscription, along with instructions to download the app, and to use my email address for both login and password. I downloaded the app (again) and followed their instructions only to receive the dreaded message ‘Failed to login’.
Great, I thought. Maybe I should check my subscription. I went to their website, ‘Manage my subscription’, and entered my email address only to receive the message ‘This email address isn’t associated with an account’!
I’m not sure where to go from here. I’m still keen to subscribe but just wish they could solve my access problem. As I said in the opening ‘VERY DISSAPOINTED’.

### 1/5 — Terrible support

*2024-07-20*

Project Healing Water Fly Fishing offered this for us veterans months ago. I couldn’t log in and emailed Fly Tyer magazine but got no response. I figured it was just another magazine scam. I recently purchased the digital copy and still can’t log in. The instructions indicated that my email was my login and that it would automatically log me in the first time. Nope. Did I call customer support? Why bother when they won’t respond? They got my $ but be warned!!

### 1/5 — Paid not récrivez

*2023-03-08*

I have been unable to get my magasine subscription valid until may 2023,
Nothing does it , reload, many many time, all edition are lock down, even Renew subscription

Not able to get a contact or support , i give up, after over 20 years has a subscriber i’ m done

### 1/5 — App doesn’t work

*2023-01-20, version 7.0.2*

App hasn’t updated in years. The login method provided does not work. Customer support hard to find and non responsive. No live help. Same issues as listed by other reviewers. Purchase print magazine or suffer. This app makes life harder instead of easier.

### 1/5 — One star is not low enough

*2023-01-03, version 7.0.2*

Website accepts name and password but doesn’t show the digital subscription. iPhone and iPad can’t get password to work. Shows 3 page teaser of digital magazines then requests login which fails. Severely deficient. I am very disappointed. Will try again in a few days but I note overall app rating is not above 1.

### 1/5 — Cannot log into digital subscription

*2022-12-15*

This is day three of trying to get into my digital subscription that I purchased last week. I have wasted over two hours on the phone with the digital subscription people and I my account will still not log onto the app. The app itself cannot be viewed offline either. I am giving this one last try and then asking for my money back. For a great magazine like Fly Tyer this is a really poor product. I would give zero stars but this is not an option.

### 1/5 — Have never been able to login

*2022-11-29, version 7.0.2*

I have spent hours with IT department and can not login. I assume me attempted purchase is just a donation to them with nothing in return

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great Magazine/app

*2014-09-18, version 6.0.14*

Have had no issues whatsoever. Have on multiple devises and has always fully restored.

### 5/5 — Good read

*2014-08-09*

This is a good magazine to get ideas for all types of flies. The articles are also very informative as well.

### 5/5 — Excellent Publication

*2013-09-01*

I've read this magazine for years but it is a totally different experience on and Apple iPad. The clarity is excellent and you can really zoom in to see the fly patterns. All the issues are right at your finger tips stored on the iPad. I have not had any issues with the app on my Apple iPad. The clarity is remarkable and right there when you want it. No hunting for the ,amazing anymore.

### 5/5 — Fantastic!

*2013-07-26, version 3.1.0*

I have subscribed to Fly Tyer in print form for years. Thought I'd try the e-version. Love it! Double tap a pic for zooming in on details of patterns. Haven't experienced any glitches. Love the convenience of multiple issues in the palm of my hand.

### 5/5 — Flytying Magazine

*2013-06-16*

I enjoy flytying magazine because of the interesting articles on the tying of classic, as well modern flies as well. It will always be number one in my eyes. The editor is top notch and a real artist when it comes to tying streamers. Keep up the good work. Danny Wellington Sydney australia

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2013-05-03*

I love the magazine but to have it on iPad is the best! I can zoom in on the pictures and get all the details much clearer and better then the mag.

### 5/5 — great magazine

*2013-02-21*

great magazine. But the app site loads slowly.

### 5/5 — Problems seem fixed

*2012-09-16, version 3.1.0*

The September 2012 app update was overdue but seems so far to have addressed all platform problems. Now the excellent magazine content downloads, stays in my iPad, and is slick to retrieve and read.

### 5/5 — Finally it works

*2012-09-14*

Now. It works all issues downloadable. in issue table of contents works. multiple retrieve works. good job

previous: Some downloads won't start unless you go to the preview mode first. After downloading more than 4 issues, none will open on line or locally. The only transition is to a grey screen in that case.

All require internet access after download. Otherwise an error message about requiring access appears, even after download. Issues are 82 pages long, but sometimes the progress bar will show 164 items to download and will stop at 156 or go to 164 and remain on screen. Some downloads won't engage, just the spinning icon.

If you want access to the issue on line there is a quick screen with a check box and a delete icon. if you press the icon immediately, then the issue will load else its back to the grey screen.

### 5/5 — Fly tying in the digital age

*2012-05-19*

Although I really enjoy holding a physical hard copy mag in my hands, I have to say that the convenience of reading on my iPad is greatly appreciated. Kudos to the Fly Tyer staff for giving us readers a fully interactive digital version. This type of format is really exciting. I can envision future issues having step by step videos or videos from the industry leaders giving their hints and technique tips. great job!!
