### 2/5 — Manipulative

*2026-08-13, version 0.9.77*

Listen… I understand the goal of this is to be an manipulative and positive ways, but the questions asked and the responses they give during the questionnaire at the top of this experience were unfair and psychologically damaging. By asking how much time you spend on the screen per day, and then he equating that to an amount of money that you would be paid in minimum wage over those hours? That’s terrible. That’s tricking people and deciding it’s worth the money to spend on this app. There are other ways to communicate to someone that they could be spending their time and more valuable ways than on the phone without that level of shame, and folding to corporate greed “self-help “propaganda

### 4/5 — Love the interactive game aspects for my to-do list

*2026-07-29, version 0.9.76*

I love game-based to-do lists and I really appreciate the different timers provided for the focus sessions when completing tasks. I only did 4 stars because I'd like to be able to "hide" my tasks. I can only filter by Due, Done, and All. I'd like to be able to filter by Today's, Tomorrow's, Overdue, etc. so the To-Do list doesn't get overwhelming to look at. Immediate visual organizations really does wonders. It would also help to be able to re-order the substeps in tasks instead of deleting and re-typing them in order again. I hope these features get added in the next update because it's hard finding a good to-do list app that I actually want to use

### 3/5 — Probably great for some people.

*2026-07-10, version 0.9.75*

First of all, contrary to many other reviewers, I think that the annual subscription fee is fair to keep the game advertisement free considering the fact that a solo dev is providing ongoing updates. ~$6USD/month is totally reasonable. That said, the other options get a bit wacky in my opinion. $7 per week shouldn’t be an option. Someone who accidentally leaves a subscription like that running might unwittingly spend over $360 annually, and I think the monthly fee is a bit high, nearing World of Warcraft’s monthly subscription fee.

That said, I ran into some performance issues, and I didn’t always feel like I was being rewarded for completing tasks, which led to a pattern of leaving the timer to run even after I had completed the task at hand.

Once you cross that threshold into running the timer despite inactivity, you’re defeating the purpose of the app altogether, and while I accept full responsibility for my own actions, it became more about trying to manipulate the game into giving me what I wanted than improving my focus.

I used this app on and off for a year, and it was a fun and engaging way to build better habits. The combat in sessions and updated trials in adventure mode were engaging without being inaccessible, and I don’t remotely regret using the app. I also think the newest update sounds exciting, and I might be willing to return at a later date, but as my annual subscription fee is coming up again, I find that the cost, performance issues, and occasional bugs make it difficult for me to justify continuing.

I think this app has a lot of potential, and I think I might recommend it to a certain kind of person, but for general people, I would give it 3/5 stars.

### 2/5 — Crashes too much

*2026-05-22, version 0.9.57*

I see the potential here and really wanted to like it. However i did not like the lack of ease for customizing goals. In addition, stopping a goal session froze my phone and it took several restarts of the app to get it working again.

### 4/5 — Great for small rewards

*2026-04-29, version 0.9.49*

It gives me the small rewards I need to get through tough tasks and bigger rewards to look forward to.

The app still has room for improvement (it’s a one dev team, so that’s totally understandable). Keep up the good work!

### 3/5 — Lost ny pets and cash

*2026-04-29, version 0.9.49*

I focus heroes, since your update, I still have my weapons but all my cash and pets are gone, Im quite sad...

Edit: I'm not sure I like the new version.
I end up with so many create at the end of an adventure that only contains the same wood sword on repeat... that's weird.

### 3/5 — Lost ny pets and cash

### 4/5 — Goo

*2026-04-15, version 0.9.49*

D

### 1/5 — No free mode - subscription only

*2026-01-12, version 0.9.39*

Ridiculous model, will not be trying.

### 3/5 — Lots of potential

*2026-01-09, version 0.9.39*

The structure is here for a really great app, but there are some issues. The concept overall is great, but the implementation is often buggy and confusing. Adventure mode is an interesting idea, but the combat mechanics don’t always function right.

Equipping items has its own bugs. Sometimes selecting an item removes other items, or items change appearance.

Sounds on the timer also stop working often.

Despite the bugs, the basic mechanic of setting a timer and getting rewards (skill gain, gold, items) and unlocking new areas did keep me coming back during the free trial.

I appreciate the effort and the work done here by a solo dev, but I think, ironically, this app could use a more focused approach. It seems like it is trying to do too much without the core functionality being ironed out.

### 1/5 — Pay to play

*2026-01-08, version 0.9.39*

Nah…I don’t pay to do chores, i wish this app was free all around…very huge disappointment…

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Don’t bother

*2026-07-10, version 0.9.75*

This is one of those apps that forces you through this long pointless and goofy questionnaire only to be hit at the end with the 7 day trial, it’s gonna be $5 a month after that. I deleted, I can’t stand the fake questionnaire that literally has zero effect on the app experience other than to create some “investment” on the user end to increase likely hood of payment. Based on that alone I know the app is gonna suck and be an endless money grab.

### 1/5 — Obnoxiously spammy

*2026-07-02, version 0.9.69*

It’s impossible to tell if it even has a free tier. Blocks it until you take the “free trial” which you may forget to cancel (this should be the business model of many apps)

### 1/5 — Just paid and app not working

*2026-05-16, version 0.9.49*

Right after i paid it put me on the edit character screen and there no option to do anything… like WTF!

### 1/5 — One of the scummiest app intros ever

*2026-03-26, version 0.9.39*

Dear god, I have never had an app that bugged me so much to subscribe as soon as I start it. Not only that, the "no thanks, I don't want to subscribe" buttons take a minute to fade in and are then incredibly faint, like those bad mobile game ads. There's even one screen where they make the X button blend in with the dog behind it so it's even harder to see!

Really scummy, and then after saying no to a trial 5 times, it bothers you with incredibly long animations and five more screens just to say "Hey, I can help get your life together." Other apps do this but don't have nearly as many screens or long animations for it.

And when you finally get past those obnoxious screens, you realize task customization is really limited, like not being able to control how often a task repeats.

I can only assume the target audience for this focus app is boomers and children.

### 1/5 — Lame

*2026-03-16, version 0.9.39*

No free plan. In not going to fall for a “trial” that charges you $60 if you forget to unsubscribe

### 1/5 — Immediately charged despite “free trial.” Refund denied. Possible scam.

*2026-03-06, version 0.9.39*

I want to like this app, but the financial aspect is far too scammy.

Within three hours of installing this app, I was charged the full $59.99 subscription price despite the App Store listing a seven‑day free trial with a reminder before the trial ends.

I gave the app a second chance to see if I wanted to continue using it. On day five (yesterday), I decided it wasn’t a good fit for me and requested a refund from Apple, since I was well within the trial period. Apple denied the request with the message “This purchase is not eligible for a review,” which I’m currently appealing.

Based on Reddit threads and App Store reviews, this exact issue has been reported by users for over a year. I’m now on day six of the trial and still have not received a refund. If the issue isn’t resolved, I will have no choice but to report the app for potential ongoing fraud, since users have reported losing hundreds of dollars to this unresolved issue.

Final review pending resolution of this ongoing issue.

### 1/5 — Feel Scammed

*2026-03-05, version 0.9.39*

As someone with ADHD i decided to give this app a try and got the free trial. It only took a few minutes before i realized this app was not for me. I canceled my subscription and was still charged for a full year and after trying everything i possibly could I was never able to get refunded.

### 1/5 — No support

*2026-01-28, version 0.9.39*

Robbers

### 1/5 — App incomplete- Check out FAQ on Reddit before buying

*2026-01-27, version 0.9.39*

Way too many glitches to even call this a completed product. It’s just not done. Clearly released too soon.

### 1/5 — cheap design, yearly charge trap, no refund,

*2026-01-23, version 0.9.39*

tried this out, then forgot to cancel and got charged a YEARLY subscription of 80 usd for this cheaply designed app. was not impressed by the app at all, it didnt help me at all either, i forgot about the app 5 min after trying it, thats why i forgot about the cancelation. wanted a refund, didnt get it

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Glad I found this

*2026-08-13, version 0.9.77*

Just started with this app and enjoy it so far! I can’t wait to see how this will help me stick to my tasks. Of note It would be fun to have different themes to choose between (ie cyberpunk, sci fi) to keep things fresh for your hero, I hope this app will continue to be developed!

### 5/5 — Help?

*2026-08-12, version 0.9.77*

I had this app for free and had all my stuff on it, and now it’s telling me I have to pay. I can’t get into the app at all, so I lost all my progress.

### 5/5 — Subtle Motivator. Great App!

*2026-07-16, version 0.9.76*

This app has just enough to keep me invested without becoming another distraction.

I think it is best used for a quick was to log tasks for incentives. Tracking times a dates for tasks, reminders and events I leave to my trusty calendar app.

### 5/5 — Where did all my points go?

*2026-04-12, version 0.9.49*

When I opened Focus Hero this morning, it started up and acted like it was my very first time. I don’t know what happened, but I’m pretty upset because I assume this means all the points I’ve been earning are gone. How do I fix this!? This would have been a five star review, but after this, I don’t know.
UPDATE: I went to the App Store and found a message inviting anyone to email the creator of this app with issues so I did. I received a very quick reply! Turns out my font setting were too big which affected how much of the app screen I could see. They advised me on how to fix this and now the app is working again. They said they’re submitting another update that should be available soon. I’m really pleased with their help and quick reply! They seem very dedicated to having a high quality app 😊

### 5/5 — Amazing Update

*2026-04-04, version 0.9.47*

The game recently update and it added so much to it! The guy who made this game clearly believes in it and what it can do for our time. The shows in the product and honestly, that’s been true in how it’s helped me reclaim some of my time.

### 5/5 — Update Game

*2026-03-27, version 0.9.39*

I’m making this review to help motivate this guy to update the game. He has a good product here with a lot of potential, so he has to do his goal proud which is to stay productive and active with projects. Don’t listen to the noise, most people with positive opinions don’t talk, but the reviews clearly show it. Keep working bud thx for helping me do the same. 👍

### 5/5 — This is the first time I have ever left a review for an app.

*2026-03-23, version 0.9.39*

I absolutely love using this app every day, and it has helped me more than anything else to get deep work done and to make it really fun! I hope this app can continue to stay alive and get all the funding it needs, because I want to keep using this app forever.

### 5/5 — Wow

*2026-02-16, version 0.9.39*

As someone with ADHD this seriously helped me, super fun and addictive!!

### 5/5 — Day 1 Review

*2025-12-29, version 0.9.39*

Potential but might get boring fast

### 5/5 — Fun! And cute characters

*2025-12-15, version 0.9.39*

The game its self is kind of hard but the characters are super cute. Like the cats and fox’s you can have as companions.
