## What is Foldic?

Foldic backs up your iPhone photo albums to a USB drive plugged straight into your phone — no iCloud subscription, no computer, no cloud.

REAL FILES, REAL FOLDERS
Every album becomes a plain folder of original photos and videos on your drive. No proprietary library — files you can browse anywhere and keep forever.

MADE FOR USB-C DRIVES
Plug a USB-C drive or SSD into your iPhone, pick a folder, tap Sync All. That's the whole setup.

INCREMENTAL AND RESUMABLE
Foldic skips what's already on the drive, so after the first backup every sync takes moments. Unplug anytime — the next sync picks up exactly where it stopped.

YOUR WHOLE LIBRARY
Back up albums individually, or mirror All Photos organized into year/month folders. Live Photos export both the still and the paired video, and capture dates are preserved.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Runs entirely on your iPhone, sandboxed. No account, no analytics — your photos go from your phone to your drive, nowhere else.

GOOD TO KNOW
• Works with drives readable in the Files app (exFAT, FAT32, APFS)
• iPhone with USB-C connects directly; Lightning iPhones need a powered adapter
• If photos leave an album, their exported copies are flagged, and nothing is deleted unless you turn on automatic cleanup
• Also available on Mac: one purchase covers both (Mac version adds Flickr backup)

FOLDIC PRO
Foldic is free to download, with every feature unlocked for 7 days. After that, browsing your albums and backup status stays free; running a backup, auto-sync and deep compare need Foldic Pro: a monthly subscription (US$2.99), a yearly subscription (US$29.99), or a one-time Lifetime purchase (US$39.99). Prices may vary by region. One purchase covers Mac and iPhone. If you bought Foldic before it became free, everything stays unlocked forever at no extra cost.
Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and can be managed in your App Store account settings.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 0.9.0 — 2026-09-12

Foldic is now free to download, with everything unlocked for 7 days.

• If you bought Foldic before this update, nothing changes for you: every feature stays unlocked, forever, on Mac and iPhone. No trial, no subscription, nothing to do.

• New users get 7 days of full access. After that, browsing your albums and backup status stays free; running a backup, auto-sync and deep compare need Foldic Pro — a monthly or yearly subscription, or a one-time Lifetime purchase. One plan covers Mac and iPhone.

• Restore Purchases is in Settings, under Foldic Pro.

### 0.8.6 — 2026-09-08

A small maintenance release. Nothing changes in how Foldic works — the App Store page gets a clearer name and subtitle that say what Foldic does: backing up your photos.

### 0.8.5 — 2026-09-06

A small maintenance release. Nothing changes in how Foldic works — this update refreshes the App Store pages with new screenshots that show the current interface.

### 0.8.4 — 2026-08-23

When something goes wrong, you can now tell me about it properly.

• A new Report to Developer screen, reached from the log button at the top left. It gathers what Foldic recorded along with a few lines about your iPhone and your backup drive — the version, the drive's format, how much space is free — which is usually what decides whether a problem can be solved from one message instead of five.

• Album and photo names are replaced with short tokens before anything leaves your iPhone, and the names of your drive and your account are removed. Sizes, timings and error messages are kept, because those are what make a report useful. You see the whole thing before it goes anywhere, and nothing is ever sent automatically.

• The log used to throw away its history when it reached its size limit, which meant it could be almost empty at the exact moment you went to report something. It now keeps the previous stretch as well.

• Copying a very large video records how memory behaves as it goes. That is what identified the crash fixed in 0.8.3, and keeping the trace is how a return of it would be spotted quickly rather than after another round of guessing.

Requires iOS or iPadOS 17.

### 0.8.3 — 2026-08-22

Large videos, and a stronger guarantee about every file.

• Backing up a video of several gigabytes no longer risks the app being closed by the system partway through. Reported by a customer on an iPhone with plenty of free space: videos above about 2 GB could not finish. Foldic now handles a file of any size a few megabytes at a time.

• Large files say what they are doing. Past 256 MB the progress area names the file and counts up — while it is being copied, and again while it is read back to be checked. A 5 GB video takes minutes in each of those steps, and the app used to say nothing during either.

• The verification is now stricter, and faster. Foldic records the fingerprint of what your photo library served rather than of what arrived on the disk, so reading a file back afterwards compares the two instead of comparing the disk with itself. A large video also copies about a third quicker, because one full read of it has gone.

Requires iOS or iPadOS 17.
