### 5/5 — Food for thought

Awesome. Daily readings help keep me focused on my recovery and to keep food in proper perspective. Food is meant to maintain a healthy body and clarity of mind. It is not meant to escape from life. This book is a gentle reminder of what I need to do for myself to live life on life's terms.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Religious nonsense

*2025-04-14*

Just a bunch of bible mumbo jumbo to make you feel guilty for existing.

### 1/5 — Toxic and Not inclusive

*2023-05-23*

There is a reading for May 18 that basically says being thin is the ultimate goal. As long as you’re thin, you’ve succeeded. And that God is not happy that you’re overweight. Also, all spiritual are to “Lord” and “Him”.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your thoughtful review. This book was published in 1980 and was written primarily for people who identified as compulsive overeaters in Overeaters Anonymous. We’re updating the content to take into consideration that compulsive overeating is now an eating disorder, and that we need to use more inclusive language when we talk about various paths in recovery. We wish you all the best.

### 1/5 — HELP

*2011-11-12, version 2.0*

I purchased this, but where is it? It hasn't shown up with my other apps

### 1/5 — What a disappointment

*2011-11-08, version 2.0*

I am a devoted advocate and user of several Hazelden meditation resources and other wonderfull offerings. Generatipns of family & friends are alive and working programs with the help ans support of Hazelden. The only exception, and it is a huge exception, is this totally goofy, stupid & infantile "Food For Thought". The ONE meditation helper is totally without merit.

### 3/5 — Great help

*2011-09-06*

Like the content alot, though feel there is too much talk of God being a "him" (male dominant) The 12 step recovery movement is spiritual Not religious, this puts me off a little! Other recovery apps don't have such a strong emphasis on "him" , more on a Higher Power! Also would prefer if you could be able to copy/paste and highlight passages then save them, just like you can on the Kindle book reader.

### 4/5 — Spiritual food

*2013-07-02, version 3.0*

I enjoy food for thought very much.

### 4/5 — Excellent motivation

*2013-05-02, version 2.0*

This is great for a bit of a pick me up and really relates back to the literature of OA.

### 4/5 — Handy

*2012-11-16*

Handy especially for shaky food moments when out & about.

### 4/5 — Great app!

*2012-06-01, version 2.0*

On target with a nugget of truth that I can carry with me every day.

### 4/5 — Very good

*2012-05-20, version 2.0*

Simple and clear. Just wish it had a built-in alarm or a way to link in with calendar so that it could remind you to read at particular times in the day. That would be awesome!

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Thank you

*2022-09-24*

I want to say thank you to the author of this amazing book. It gives me strength and it gives me hope each day that the weight that I have because of my obsession for food can be over come. Yes I am losing weight very slowly but the pounds are coming off because I know I’m not alone on this journey. Thank you so very much sincerely Carleen

### 5/5 — Often More Spiritual

*2022-07-30*

I think there is even more of a conviction to trust in and lean on my Higher Power than the OA For Today book has. I read both, but find this one every bit as powerful in keeping me willing, motivated and growing in my recovery. Keep coming back, and take one day at a time.

### 5/5 — Make it so we can highlight

*2021-12-02*

I love this app. So many of the daily thoughts are amazing and resonate with me. My only suggestion on improving this app would be 1) giving the reader the ability to highlight those portions that “speak” to them. Not just click on a star for favorite (which is great) but also the ability to highlight the text. And 2) not having it revert back to the current day when we pull up another mobile screen. For example, I read another day’s thought, which got me pondering and I switched my screen to Safari to look up more info on the subject and when I returned back to the app screen it had reverted back to the current day and not the day I had previously been looking at.

### 5/5 — Good reflections each day

*2018-10-15*

Really enjoy reading each morning.

### 5/5 — Such a blessing!

### 5/5 — Perfect!

*2017-07-20*

A wonderful thought each day. I think about the day's message often. Highly recommended!

### 5/5 — Everything you need as an overeater!

*2017-07-10, version 3.1.2*

Reminders, motivation
