## What is Food Journal?

SpoonMe helps you be deliberate about what you eat, discover delicious recipes, and share your finds with your friends.

SpoonMe is different. We are not a calorie tracking app, although you can track your calories. Think of SpoonMe as a food journal. You can take pictures of your food to track what you've eaten, share videos or photos of your latest creation with friends and family, save your recipes in one spot to make cooking easier, and meal plan with those your share meal plans with.

SpoonMe tries to fix some of your most frustrating experiences with foods. The "link in bio" of social networks, where you need to go download a recipe in a PDF. So frustrating. In SpoonMe if someone tags a post with a Recipe you can save it immediately to your cookbooks in SpoonMe. We shouldn't need a separate app to find food, save in our cookbooks, and meal plan. We built the app we wanted to use to help you have a better food experience.

SpoonMe is also a one time purchase app. We don't want to live in algorithmically driven world that is optimized for advertising dollars. We believe a small group of people can build a very helpful app by charging a one time fee. This may reduce our overall revenue, but we think it will make a better experience for our customers.

Features:
- Save and organize recipes into cookbooks
- Import recipes from other websites to save time
- Keep a food journal of what you are eating. We have calorie tracking for those who find that helpful.
- Plan your meals for the week
- Share posts with attached recipes
- Follow friends and see what they're cooking
- Threaded replies and @mention notifications in the Feed
- Collaborative meal planning

### 3/5 — I like the app but…

*2025-02-20*

I like the concept of the app but I have an issue with posting recipes. In the settings I have it set to public but for some reason it keeps saying everything is private so I can’t share with others in the group. There is no option to contact the developers of the app to see why this is happening and how to fix it. Someone posted under one of my pictures that I should post the recipe to my dish but this glitch is preventing me from doing so. Usually in settings there is an email to contact but no contact info for developers to resolve the issue. It discourages me from wanting to continue to use the app.

**Developer response:** Thanks so much for this review. That's a deserved 3 stars for that experience. I am the founder of SpoonMe ("mattcantstop" in the app) who commented on your post. support@spoonme.kitchen is the email to reach out to us. We have it on the website, and we will make it prominent in the Settings page as well. Please feel free to email, I'd love to hear about things you love and things that need improvement (like attaching a Recipe to a Post). We will work on fixing that first thing!

We will ship an update to this very shortly. We will make sure to make the toggle on the Recipe really prominent to switch it between private and public. Thanks for this feedback, it means a lot to us for people to share their experience.

### 4/5 — Cute Simple App

*2024-12-04*

My favorite thing is the color coded steps. Each step number is a different color - but it made me want a feature that should be obvious! Color coded the ingredients too! Color them based on what step they are to be used in! Additionally, I wish we could SORT ingredients by wet/dry, by amount/weight and by order of when you use them.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for the review Dan79. This is the founder of SpoonMe, Matt. We were working on color coordinating the ingredients just yesterday! Great timing to bring it up. We should be shipping it in our next update, so pay attention when you see SpoonMe has been updated. We are making some other great changes as well for making cooking a pleasant experience with your recipes in SpoonMe. We have some other features and improvements that are moving forward before we do any ingredient sorting, but that's a great recommendation as well. We appreciate you using the app and joining our community. Thanks for the review!

### 1/5 — Error signing in with Apple account

*2024-12-04*

Despite numerous attempts unable to sign in

### 5/5 — Promising app!

*2024-10-29*

This is a really fantastic app that is part food tracking, part social interacting. It’s still in its early development, so there are a lot of features that are being updated or created. But it’s looking like this app could be a one-stop shop for all your technological food needs!

I’m a long-term calorie counter, and I love that you can add in a manual amount of calories on this app, and, of course, the bar code scanner! And I’ve enjoyed the social part of the app a lot more than I thought I would. Once this app is fully developed with all the planned features, this food networking aspect will be a game changer! I’m excited about having shared family cookbooks 😊

I just have a one request for the developers. Can you switch the emphasis on the calorie counting tool so that the amount of calories remaining is the main number? That’s the number we care about the most! Thanks

**Developer response:** Thanks so much for the review! This is Matt, the founder of SpoonMe. We are busy at work adding new features.

And yes, we will make it so the calorie count is what you have remaining, and not what you have already eaten. That's a great recommendation. I primarily just look at my photos and don't pay much attention to the calories, but I know many people do. Thanks for the recommendation. We should be releasing that change soon.

### 5/5 — Life Changing

*2024-10-28*

I have struggled with meal prep and recipe organization for SO long. SpoonMe! Has made my life easier, my cooking more delicious, my shopping streamlined, and my wallet fatter.

I’m not wasting time wondering what to eat, trying to find that one recipe I really liked but made a year ago and now can’t find. SpoonMe! Has all my favorite recipes in one place.

I waste less time on shopping, decision fatigue, and trying to find the perfect recipe. I’m also wasting less food and money because I know exactly how much I need to make my next culinary masterpiece without the waste.

Seriously, this app has changed my life. It’s changed my approach to food and saved me SO many hours. Try it.

**Developer response:** Thank you for the review! This is Matt, the founder of SpoonMe. We have been adding changes to how we present recipes as well to make it even easier to cook with SpoonMe. Make sure you have the most recent downloaded version. There is now a way to swipe through recipe instructions while you are cooking that should make it even easier.

### 5/5 — Finally, a food app that focuses on community

*2024-10-26*

I primarily use Instagram to save food recipes and search for new meal ideas. I love that there are so many people on the app, that it’s not optimized for food organization and meal planning. I love that the entire focus of this app is just that. It’s still early in several features that I’d love to see improved, but I love the community focus.

### 5/5 — Huge time saver!

*2024-10-04*

I love trying new recipes, but I don’t love having to scroll through a food blogger’s life story and a bunch of ads just to get to the darn recipe. With SpoonMe, I like that I can copy/paste a link to my journal and it will sift through to find the ingredients and present the recipe in an easy to read format. Saves me a lot of time by centralizing all the recipes I love and the ones that I want to try in the future. Great for those “I don’t know, what do YOU want” nights.

**Developer response:** I am one of SpoonMe's creators, Matt. I really appreciate this review. We have a lot of improvements still to make, but your feedback is appreciated! Please feel free to reach out to support@spoonme.kitchen if you have any other feedback you'd like to share. We are just getting started with SpoonMe!

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 3.1.0 — 2026-04-26

SpoonMe 3.1.0 release notes

- Grocery lists now pull all the ingredients from your weekly meal plan recipes. You can delete some if you already have the ingredients, and toggle between only your personal meal plan, and the family meal plan if you are meal planning with others.
- We have also grouped the grocery store lists by section in the grocery store. This should make finding what you need fast.

Mentions and Notifications

- The first tab on the left in SpoonMe is the social tab. This permits you to share what you are eating with others. We have made it so you can reply to comments in a thread, and so you get notifications if you get responses to your comments.

More reasonable For You feed
- Your own posts don't belong in the For You feed. We have now moved them to be seen in the "Following" tab.

Recipes
- The recipe Bookmark icon now is filled if you have the recipe already saved in your cookbook

Bug Improvements and Reliability Updates
- Fixed a bug with some taps not being responsive. We had an invisible element on the screen intercepting those taps
- Standardized the back/dismiss button on some views to make that more reliable as well. Sorry for the frustrating inability to exit a page at times
- Video playback bug fixed so videos show more consistently in the Feed

A Fresh Look

- Recipe cards revamped with full-bleed image + gradient overlay.
- Create Post form redesigned (modern layout/UX).
- SpoonMe logo replaced with user's profile picture throughout
toolbars.
- Likes sheet reintroduced, updated for Liquid Glass formatting.
- 6-screen onboarding flow revamped.
- Universal search UI in far right tab

### 2.1.7 — 2026-01-22

What's New:

  • Expanded Recipe Search - Search both your personal recipes and discover public recipes from the SpoonMe community when adding to your meal plan

  • Collaborative Meal Planning - Share your meal plan with family members, partners, or roommates so everyone can contribute

  • Sign in with Google - New authentication option for easier account access

  • Redesigned Feed Posts - Improved post view with better information density

  Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed an issue where expanded recipe views couldn't be dismissed
  • Fixed macros not updating when changing nutrition goals
  • Fixed expired authentication not redirecting to login screen

### 2.1.6 — 2026-01-06

New Features:
- Improved meal planning. We have now made it so you can invite others into your meal plan. You can have a personal meal plan, and meals you share. For instance, I may have my meal prep meals in my own meal plan, and the meals for our family in a Family meal plan.
- Sign in with Google.
- Changed the Post view in the feed to make it more information dense

Bug Fixes:
- We have updated the terrible bug (apologies!) where if you clicked into a recipe the view would expand and would not be dismissable without quitting the app. This was an inexcusable bug to have live for so long. Apologies. Our internal team was using an internal build and didn't realize this bug was still out there.
- Fixed bug where macros would not update when you changed your goals

### 2.1.5 — 2025-05-16

- Recipes are more easily viewable within Cookbooks
- Images can now be re-ordered in posts so you can control which photo appears in the Feed

### 2.1.4 — 2025-04-22

Enhancements:
- We elevated the Journal Entry experience to make your options easier! Now you can:
  - See more of the food you're scanning as you take the picture to send to AI
  - Scan barcodes automatically
  - Choose "Manual Entry" option to enter in nutritional information yourself
- Improved first experience in the app
