### 4/5 — Please update with more foods !

*2022-07-10*

Hi there. Very good app but need to update more often with new foods as well.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2022-01-04*

I never thought I need an app like this, but a sudden onset of a food allergy, and intolerances to histamines made me down load this.

It is extremely helpful to be able to know what foods contain histamines as this is all new to me. I don’t know how I’d navigate my current situation without it.

The app is really straight forward and simple to use. Melanie was very responsive when I needed a clarification on a good type, and will also add in a food that the app didn’t contain.

### 5/5 — Very helpful app

*2021-12-26, version 1.4.1*

Easy to get information about sensitivities

### 5/5 — So easy I use it all the time!

*2021-12-16, version 1.4.1*

I definitely recommend downloading.

### 4/5 — Great start

*2021-12-15*

This app is very comprehensive for food sensitivities and intolerances. I have found most of what I’m looking for in this app. I would love to see the next level of being able to track symptoms of each food. This is something I have not been able to find in the App Store - something that lists the sensitivities, logs what you ate, and tracks how well they were tolerated (or not). Thank you for creating this.

### 5/5 — Valuable Info Source

*2021-12-13*

What Melanie has done has saved me countless hours of research and notes. I am someone who must avoid lectins, have histamine intolerances and a gluten sensitivity. While I eat clean real food I am always making new discoveries on foods that affect me and have to research why, this app will help me quickly identify that particular food. I can also quickly search a particular food and know if it’s in my prohibited group. I find this extremely valuable for me and my health. Thank you!

### 5/5 — Great App!

*2021-12-08, version 1.4.1*

So much good info in this app! A must have!

### 5/5 — Beth

*2021-12-08, version 1.4.1*

I use this reference more often than I thought I would. It is very helpful. Thanks for compiling this.

### 5/5 — This App has all the things...

*2021-12-07, version 1.4.1*

...you could want to track the compounds in foods that may both you or trigger symptoms. Easy to use and very nearly every food you will ever eat. Great app!

### 5/5 — Extensive database!

*2021-12-06, version 1.4.1*

This app has so many foods for reference for all sorts of sensitivities! A must-have for anyone trying to figure out food intolerances!

### 5/5 — Thank you, Melanie!

*2021-12-05*

I appreciate and admire Melanie’s passion for health and healing. Her own passion shows in her podcasts, food sense guide, and now, supplements. I’m grateful that she is willing to put it all out there to help others! This Food Sense Guide makes it easy to look at the foods I’m eating and how they might be affecting me. Thanks, again, Melanie, for all you do and share.

### 5/5 — Great App! Really useful!

*2021-12-05, version 1.4.1*

This is such a great app if you have food sensitivities! I have been trying a low Fodmap diet to pinpoint my tigger foods and this app has been great! I love being able to add lists as well!

### 5/5 — Valuable Resource

*2021-12-05*

Food Sense is a valuable resource for anyone on a journey of improving their health! The ability to create lists within the app and keep track of foods that do or do not work well for your individual wellness is so helpful. This allows you to investigate what compounds may be an issue for you. I love that the app also has clear descriptions for each category with resources listed and linked for further research! A great resource!!!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Nothing functions without Premium purchase

*2024-08-15, version 1.5.0*

The description of the app says that they have made it free to everyone. I could not find the single function on the app that did not require purchasing the app at the premium level. Very misleading.

### 1/5 — Awaiting a refund!

*2024-06-01*

I wanted to try this app and started the free trial, didn’t particularly like it so I cancelled the subscription days before the free trial ended yet I still got charged for it and now they’re saying the purchase is not eligible for a refund. Deleted the app and still waiting for my money back.

### 1/5 — Not Informative

*2024-02-29*

Unfortunately, I found this application useless. I was researching food oxalate levels. Each time I clicked on the food I was referred to a page for subscribing to the premium level. I received no information, just ads for a subscription.

I went to the resources section to check the resources used for oxalates and found that at at least 60% of the links are no longer valid. Or are over 20 years old.

### 1/5 — Impossible to Add to List

*2023-06-22*

I’ve tried on my iPhone and iPad and the ‘add to list’ button is out of screen sight. I have a screen shot to show the problem

### 1/5 — Pas assez référencée

*2023-03-06*

Je suis gravement réactive aux sulfites, et j’ai fait l’erreur d’acheter cette application. Les indications sont fausses: à éviter , perte d’argent!

### 1/5 — List is very limited

*2021-09-26, version 1.4.1*

Most seafood, whole eggs, dressings, not listed. Wasted $2.99

### 2/5 — Poor ui programming

*2021-06-02*

Fodmaps are all grouped together which is a bit limiting as I don’t want Oligos but don’t mind polyols, but I have no idea which one of the 5 is high.

And for some reason I thought I would be able to search for a food based on the categories. Eg foods low in amines, low is sulphites, high in something else... but can’t do that.

If I drill down into a food, then tap a different category from the scales, the ui fails again. Tap back and get duplicate high/low options that actually go to different lists. I get high/low fodmaps twice but the 2nd pair actually show thiols.

### 2/5 — Very vague

*2019-03-29, version 1.0*

I was hoping for more concrete info about the quantity of compounds in particular foods. Items are grouped as either “high” (all red) or safe (green). The app may be useful if you are looking to completely avoid a substance (for example oxalates) but if you are able to eat moderate amounts of a compound and looking to know quantity per serving, this will not give you more information.

### 3/5 — App is great, but…

*2024-07-01, version 1.5.0*

The app is great. I like how it breaks down each food group and the food sensitivities with it. But I had purchased the full version, and now I can’t see any of the sub groupings.

### 3/5 — Nice app

*2023-12-06, version 1.5.0*

In review, it’s a really well formatted app but not what I was lookin for. Does anyone know how to cancel the free seven day trial it doesn’t give uric acid levels and this is what I needed? Any help would be appreciated.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — I’m obsessed with the App and the Podcasts!

*2024-03-25*

So much information that I have found to be helpful to take my health to another level. I’m so glad I found this. I am on a journey to better health and I am so encouraged to start fasting more and try the supplements. The podcasts are so informative . Love love it . 10 out of 10!

### 5/5 — MY FOOD INTOLERANCE BIBLE

*2023-09-27, version 1.4.1*

This app has been my go to since it was announced as available by Avalon. It is just the best all around reference you will ever need for food intolerance.

### 5/5 — Food Sense is an excellent tool

*2023-09-08*

There are so many allergens and it can be very difficult to find accurate information
This app has a long list of food information, though it has some limits in the food list, it is still excellent!

### 5/5 — Food Chemicals

*2023-08-09*

This App has to be the best so far for looking up Food Chemicals both Natural and added.
Looking forward to one day being able to scan barcodes packaging one day. Can’t thank you enough

### 5/5 — Highly Recommended

*2023-02-17, version 1.4.1*

Living with undiagnosed salicylate sensitivity for years, this app has become a go-to for solid info in this ever growing area of medical study. It was crucial at the beginning of my eventual overcoming the problem, and continues to be invaluable and unrivaled.

### 5/5 — Food sensitivity bible!

*2022-11-29, version 1.4.1*

This app is amazingly easy to use and puts food sensitivity info at your fingertips. A must have for those with allergies or for anyone just curious about food details. Choose a food or sensitivity and find all the pros and cons. I’m ‘nuts’ about it!

### 5/5 — Great tool to heal leaky gut, lose weight

*2022-05-25*

I learned that much of what I ate contained significant amounts of lectins. No wonder I was gaining weight with “healthy” food. I am grateful to find an app with a quick way to create a new list to help me balance my microbiome, heal the gut and confirm instinctive choices I make in food.
This is one of the easiest apps to put to use immediately. Thanks!

### 5/5 — Love this app

*2022-05-18, version 1.4.1*

This is such an easy to use app if in a grocery store just type in a food item! Only thing that I don’t like is that garbanzo bean or chickpea is not listed 😔

### 5/5 — Extremely helpful tool that makes eating less stressful!!

*2022-03-28*

Melanie Avalon has created an app that caters to my exact needs of understanding why certain foods don’t agree with me. Whenever I eat something that causes discomfort/gastrointestinal distress/brain fog/ whatever(!), I log onto this app and am quickly able to figure out what compounds in that food likely are the culprits. It’s helped me narrow down which compounds specifically don’t work for me as I have been able to cross reference reactions from different foods to determine commonalities, and therefore, am able to identify what is problematic for me. I appreciate this app so much and recommend it to anyone who has inexplicable negative symptoms after eating.

### 5/5 — Such a great tool!

*2022-02-17, version 1.4.1*

I use the Foodsense app all the time for my own research and for my nutrition clients. It's very well researched, easy to search and comprehensive. Great job!
