### 3/5 — Promising, but flawed

*2026-04-16*

The idea of “skip the chains” feature is great. The execution needs work. Hunt Brothers is very much a chain.

**Developer response:** Thanks so much for checking it out! Originally I was using review count as a signifier for "Local", with the thought that chains would have a much bigger Google footprint than a mom and pop. Turns out that isn't actually true at all - a popular local gem can blow past a regional chain easily in both rural and urban areas. I just pushed an update that drops the review-count heuristic entirely. The filter now checks against a curated list of ~600 US chain brands sourced from Wikidata's restaurant-chain classification (Hunt Brothers Pizza is in there., I double-checked :) ) I also added a "Report as chain" button on the result screen, so anything I missed gets flagged by actual users with one tap for manual review and rolled into the next list update if it checks out. Let me know once you get the update if it works better for you and I'll mark the bug report as closed!
