### 5/5 — helpful

*2026-09-01, version 1.10.11*

this app is helping me to journal at least a little everyday.

### 5/5 — Thoughtful, well researched, and cute.

*2026-08-30, version 1.10.11*

This is the first time I’ve ever actually enjoyed one of these apps (and the first time I’m leaving a review for an app ever). You can tell there was some real research put into this (which is very important these days where pseudo-psychology is everywhere). Also, the fox is so cute. I also appreciate that, yes, you can buy clothes, furniture, and stiff, but it limits you. That’s not the main point of the app and other apps kind of get lost in that.

Thoughtful, well researched, and cute. Thank you!

### 5/5 — Great App For NO COSTS

*2026-08-30*

This app has helped me organize my emotions in such a fun and playful way. It helps me learn lessons that can be hard to face, but my trusty fox friend will be right by my side. Besides how organized and well thought out the app is, its attention to detail is what hits the hardest. The whole story line is beautiful and I really enjoy it. When I downloaded this app I was certain I would have to delete it immediately because of having to pay for so many subscriptions for the app to be enjoyable, but I have spent no money and I am loving this app. Again, there are so many little details that make the app unique, functional, and cozy all at once. It is personalized so you have the best experience, but not too personal (if u know what i mean). It doesn’t require info that is irrelevant to the use of the app. All that is required is your fox’s name and pro nouns, and your name. And that’s only for the purpose of the storyline, but it also makes it feel just that little bit more cozy. I highly recommend this app to anyone looking for a place to put your emotions.

### 5/5 — Immediate relief

*2026-08-29, version 1.10.11*

This app was extremely helpful when I started using it during a flare up of my anxiety disorder. The way the journaling pages have you label your emotions is so helpful when it comes to understanding your feelings, processing them, and moving through them. Plus my little fox is adorable and I love dressing her up. This has become a valuable part of my daily routine in just a few weeks.

### 5/5 — Helps me so much

*2026-08-29, version 1.10.11*

It’s helping me deal with the heavy emotions & grief of losing the man I thought I’d spend the rest of my life with & a job I loved

### 5/5 — Cute journaling app

*2026-08-28, version 1.10.11*

This has become my fun little morning ritual to start my day. I love journaling and decorating my little fox’s home. It’s a nice cozy way to introduce some positivity into your routine.

### 5/5 — Cozy self-help

*2026-08-28, version 1.10.11*

I played Finch for while but Foxtale resonates with me more in terms of gameplay and lessons learned. I just started playing but I am very much enjoying it.

### 5/5 — Genuinely Helping My Mindset!

*2026-08-28*

Typically I am guilty of signing up for a lot of apps and then not necessarily using them because I get distracted or don’t maintain enough of a regular practice in engaging with the various tools within the apps. Foxtale has been unexpectedly delightful in how it draws me in to engage in genuine reflection and emotional awareness at multiple points in my day (this is a really big deal for me that I have been regularly using it more than once a day !!) More surprising has been how much I have loved the little daily lessons that come from visiting various locations and interacting with the animals who live there. The content has been exceptional - and has had a really big impact on how I think about and experience my emotions since I’ve started using the app. Foxtale has been an amazing mix of truly helpful educational content, as well as a game changer in my ability to commit to a regular practice of journaling and self-awareness. I’m so impressed already at the positive results I’ve seen, and I can’t wait to see what additional benefits come after an extended period of time using the app.

### 5/5 — This may be peak

*2026-08-27, version 1.10.11*

I actually love this app it’s really good at helping when you feel some type of way. But when you’re up it just adds that cherry to make you smile a little. If anything it’s a good quote generator and personal journal. But you can make it more than that.

### 5/5 — Great app love it

*2026-08-26, version 1.10.11*

This is the only thing I’ve ever found that actually helps me because I like the little animal in it, and I can do it whenever I feel like, and because it’s science based it is basically being told the same thing that a therapist would tell you.

### 5/5 — Daily Need

*2026-08-25, version 1.10.11*

Helps me process things when i have time to take a moment and do so. Look forward to each play time!

### 5/5 — Extraordinarily helpful

*2026-08-25, version 1.10.11*

I’ve never been able to journal properly. This little fox friend helps guide me along. It teaches me things. It helps me process things I’ve learn elsewhere. It also helps me process my inner thoughts and emotions. This app also lets me write all my thoughts down unedited - not taking into consideration other peoples’ feelings reading it. It’s secure. Only I can read it.

### 5/5 — Cute, genuine, positive.

*2026-08-24, version 1.10.11*

The simplicity and non invasive approach to this app is really appreciated. It is cute, kind, and such a gentle boost of positivity.

### 5/5 — Nervous System Reset

*2026-08-24, version 1.10.11*

Taking a moment to track my emotions real time with a quick journal entry has made me much more aware of my feelings. I love the aesthetic of the app. It feels calming and safe. The prompts are great and truly get me thinking. I’ve really enjoyed the customization aspects love the specialty items.

### 5/5 — I’m in love

*2026-08-24, version 1.10.11*

This is so cute and even though I only got this app recently, I love it a lot. I really think that this will continue to help me throughout my life.

### 5/5 — Perfect Balance

*2026-08-23, version 1.10.11*

Self-help apps - there feels like there are a bazillion of them. This app hits best for me. I’ve got the really cute Fox, I go on adventures, I can earn coins, I can purchase different items…but what’s so very different about this app is that it’s this perfect balance between game and journaling. I don’t feel obligated to press buttons and I love the reinforcement of behaviors. After investing more than three years into a similar but very different app, I feel like my Goldilocks moment has arrived. Yep, this one is just right.

### 5/5 — Love it

*2026-08-22, version 1.10.11*

I've tried journaling plenty of times, but this is the only app i've tried that's been genuinely helpful. i also like that not paying for the subscription doesnt make it borderline un-usable.

### 5/5 — Adorable app

*2026-08-21, version 1.10.11*

So cute I love foxes and this is very helpful

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Force Closes

*2026-08-15, version 1.10.10*

Really excited about this until the app just quit on me 3 times trying to do my first journal entry. Now I’m over it :’(

### 1/5 — No free version

*2026-07-18, version 1.10.6*

This app as far as I can tell does not have a free version. The first time I opened the app it forced me into agreeing to a 7 day free trial before I could even start setting up an account or use any other features on the app. The app won’t send you a notification when this free trial is up and will automatically charge your card. Incredibly disappointing for a mental health app. It’s basically just a glorified digital journal and it doesn’t really teach you anything about depression/anxiety than surface level stuff that’s already floating around all over the place on the internet. Could be so much better than what it is. Could actually be useful, but it just falls short.

### 1/5 — Great app, no ads, and everyone can benefit from the free version

*2026-01-21*

I really enjoy this app and find it helpful. The daily check-ins have helped me immensely in understanding and reflecting on my emotions and why I’m feeling them. The app has helped me regain control of emotional spirals (ruminating thoughts, catastrophizing, etc) and it’s also just really fun and cute. I genuinely think everyone can benefit from using this app.

My one and only gripe is the price of the “Plus” subscription which is not at all required in order to use and enjoy the app. (I know the devs are very cognizant of affordability and making sure that critical features aren’t paywalled so that even people who can’t afford a subscription can use and find significant value in their apps. I really appreciate that.) I also use and subscribe to Bearable, another great app by the same devs, and I’d like to subscribe to Foxtale but an annual subscription is more than twice the price of Bearable. It would be nice if there were a savings bundle to subscribe to both at once.

But even without a subscription it’s an easy 5 stars from me!

Edit: Revised down from 5 stars because the new update asks you to disclose personal health information with the tenuous promise to “personalize the experience” and there is no option to opt out or not participate. I’m really disappointed to see this dev team gathering such invasive data points in the current political climate with zero regard for user privacy and no without giving users the option to not participate in these “features”. Yuck.

**Developer response:** Thanks so much for the kind words!!

EDIT - Hi Charlie, there is an option at the bottom called "None of the above" to opt out. We asked users to optionally disclose their conditions/disorders to help us understand who we might need to tailor content to, or what changes we might need to make to current content. Considering there is no sign in required for the app, this data is aggregated and totally anonymised and not attached to any personal information. I hope this clears things up, but let me know if you have other questions at support@joinfoxtale.com. Hi Charlie did you have any further questions?

### 1/5 — Cute but overpriced and doesn’t integrate with bearable

*2025-12-12*

I think the fox and interface are cute and it makes me think about my moods/feelings, but they don't transfer to the Bearable app, so I have to do it manually for the same app company. The journaling prompts are nice but not better than free iPhone options. I can do everything except the cartoon fox and without a new high subscription. I found a 50% off early offer on Bearable Reddit, but I couldn't use it since I already found the app in the App Store under apps from Bearable.

**Developer response:** Hi Reid, would you like to have a chat to discuss how we could improve Foxtale for you? I'm running some calls with early users and would love to find out how we can be better. Thanks

### 2/5 — Not at your pace

*2026-06-17, version 1.10.3*

The app is cute and has a lot of potential, but you can’t go at your own pace; you’re forced to go with the app’s pace, which is extremely slow. It only lets you progress a tiny bit every day, and there’s zero explanation for it. It’s basically like if you went to a new therapist who asked “What does sadness mean to you?”, then pushed you out the door and said “we’ll talk more about it tomorrow!” I truly don’t understand why it’s set up this way.

### 3/5 — Not for me

*2026-06-22, version 1.10.4*

I saw recommendations about this app, and at first I thought it would be a good fit, but after a couple weeks of using it, it feels more annoying than anything. I don’t like to journal on my phone, and I am frustrated sometimes when *people* ask me how I feel, so to have an app ask me how I feel and dig into what that all stems from just doesn’t work with my brain. I’m sure it’s great for some people, but not for me.

### 3/5 — Pay

*2026-01-01, version 1.7.16*

Of course you have to pay for it because why would anything be free especially when it comes to your mental health

### 4/5 — Not in love // my favorite mindfulness app.

*2026-08-31, version 1.10.11*

Came from Finch- a shared post had specific marketing to that userbase along the lines of Finch being too needy. I definitely feel like my lil fox bro can handle time without me, and maybe because there’s no toddler stage, like in Finch? I like the Foxtale stance on feeling ambivalent, and how it forces you to pick positive or negatives. My biggest gripe is the overall sepia palette; it feels really ai-sloppish instead of worn-library-book.

### 4/5 — Enjoy the app, has a few cons IMO

*2026-08-22, version 1.10.11*

I wish there were more items and helping quests available without purchasing a subscription. It’s not cheap either. There should be more choices for life events that may be affecting emotions.
I wish there were more things to do as I would not mind spending more time on the app.

Other than that, this app is making me accountable for being mindful of my emotions & keeping track to notice patterns. It is cute & accessible. It encourages daily mindfulness & checking in with yourself. Building coping skills

### 4/5 — Been great so far.

*2026-08-20, version 1.10.11*

I don’t really like journaling and have tried everything. My therapist keeps recommending that I search for something that works. I think I’ve finally found the journaling app for me. It’s interactive and fun. Keeps me interested. I gave it four stars because I’d really like to see a way to print and/or turn your journal entries into a PDF. Allowing this for other parts of the app would be great as well. I’m thinking mostly of the charts and insights. I’d also like to see a feature for allowing photos to be attached to journal entries. Maybe also have it read the Health app on the iPhone that way these highlights could be added to the journal entry.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Changed everything for me

*2026-09-12*

I actually always hate the thought of writing reviews but with this I needed to. I’ve been using this app for a month straight now and although I’m also going to therapy I genuinely feel that sticking with this app has helped me in a way I didn’t know I needed. I choose to fill out a journal in the morning and night and although I have a decent amount of coins now I love how it’s all presented. My mental health is so much more stable and the pressure of disappointing people or the finances of going to a therapist are greatly lessoned. This was like… $30 for the year and I will be doing my best to keep up with it for a very long time. Thank you so much for creating this app and putting out ads for it. It’s changed everything for me and I love the little fox you take care of. Truly before this I was… in a very poor state but now I feel like I can handle things a lot better and even when there are bad days instead of fawning and not being authentic about how I feel, I am very honest. Thank you so much for creating this app. It’s wonderful and my days and mental wellness show so much improvement.

### 5/5 — Has been very helpful

*2026-09-11*

As someone who has autism and ADHD and more, and a lot of times has trouble articulating my emotions even when I know I am feeling a lot of different emotions, this app is a lifesaver. Deal with so many emotions and I love that I can easily view what I am grateful for at other points and other things like that. I feel like without this app I wouldn’t have been able to get done what I needed to this week. It has helped me process and go through the emotions by helping me find ways to articulate them in the specifics and then helping me put them somewhere and then reflect on them after…it literally is exactly what I have needed. I am so glad I found this app from an ad for it and just hope to continue to use it. Never had an app help me as much as this one has and once I get my paycheck, I will be keeping it after the free trial is over

### 5/5 — Great game!

*2026-09-09, version 1.10.11*

I love this game, but it takes too much time to come back with a reward for an orb. I don't want to wait all day for wisdom!

### 5/5 — So excited to journal

*2026-09-08, version 1.10.11*

It’s nice and cozy. Makes me look forward to journaling. The insights are super helpful!

### 5/5 — Love this app

*2026-09-05*

Such a nice place to journal and understand the emotional load of each day. It’s a really calming. I love the lessons and seeing my orbs in the calendar.

### 5/5 — Thank You!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊

*2026-09-04, version 1.10.11*

Thank You Foxtale Team for Making This App, It’s Like A Video Game That Helps Me With My Mental Health And My Favorite Animal Are Foxes 🦊 So That Helps Even More So If You Love Foxes And You Can’t Control Your Emotions Use This App Thank You For This App So Thank You Thank You Thank You!!!!!!!

### 5/5 — Super nice app

*2026-09-03*

I’m really enjoying this app. I struggle with regulating my emotions, this app helps me to name them and gives help to process and get through them. I’m starting to journal more, and I like that you don’t have to pay to access most of it. I would like a monthly payment option as opposed to a yearly one, it helps those that can’t afford a big payment.

### 5/5 — Sem palavras!

*2026-09-03*

### 5/5 — love this app - orb colours reversing though?

*2026-09-02*

this app is lovely and has been easy to integrate into my daily life. but it is weird/frustrating that when i select that i'm feeling low energy unpleasant (blue) overall, if i select any red emotions along with the blue ones the orb turns red with blue in its centre. this doesn't happen with other combinations. it skews the visual overview of my mood and makes me feel misrepresented. i want to have blue orbs when the overall mood i select is blue!

### 5/5 — a good tale

*2026-09-01, version 1.10.11*

I enjoy using it. It’s really helpful and simple. It doesn’t seem like a task but instead, a hobby
