### 5/5 — Yes.

*2026-10-04, version 1.10.14*

I looove this app. It’s very informative and I enjoy coming back to it every time

### 5/5 — It’s as if the app knew exactly what I needed.

*2026-10-01*

I found Foxtale a couple of months ago. It differed from other self help/mental health apps so I thought I’d give it a try.
I’m so happy I decided to use Foxtale. And it couldn’t have come at a better time in my life. Within the app there are different topics you can explore. I first chose anxiety because it’s been my biggest issue. I can’t put into words just how much their technique through stories has helped me. It may not be for everyone, but it has helped tremendously.
I would like to add one more thing. Recently, I just lost my beloved dog of 14 years.
I don’t know if it was coincidence or something else, but the day they passed I had finished the anxiety series. Now I’m going through the grief series and I am so grateful to have this tool. It has helped me understand the wide range of feelings I’ve been experiencing (and missing feelings sometimes).
If you’re someone who is a visual learner and enjoys stories I would highly recommend this app.

### 4/5 — Accidentally subscribed for PLUS. Help?

*2026-09-30, version 1.10.13*

Help? I think I accidentally subscribed for plus became I now have access to everything in the app, but when I go to subscriptions on my phone I can’t seem to find it. I don’t know what to do. Otherwise a great app I love it. I just don’t want to spend money on it.

### 5/5 — I love this app

*2026-09-30, version 1.10.13*

Micah is an idiot and this app is amazing and helpful. Gaby is the goat and a genius and amazing and Micah is 😐😐😐😐

### 5/5 — Thank You

*2026-09-29, version 1.10.13*

I am just so grateful for this game, I have been using it for about 4 months and it has helped me through some of the biggest trials of my life. I enjoy the cute game elements and that there is no pressure to achieve anything or use it every day. It helps me a lot with managing negative emotions but also recognizing my own successes. I think this app really changed my life and the extra in-app purchase was also worth the money, but you could also get by without it. Thank you to all of the developers and whoever built the Facebook ad that made me aware of this game.

### 5/5 — Great app!

*2026-09-29*

Easy to use journal, prompts to help you express and write down what you need! Very cute little fox and friends to help you through understanding your emotions.

### 5/5 — Nothing but praise!

*2026-09-27*

I’ve been using the app for about a month and I love it. It helps me reflect, understand and regulate my emotions, and build genuine strategies I use day-to-day. It’s definitely helping me to improve my mental health!

It kind of reminds me of the old ‘Journey’ feature in Finch (e.g. gratitude, sleep, etc.), which was my favourite feature until they removed it! That said, Foxtale has been more consistently helpful for me, because of the focus on self-reflection and meaningful engagement with the app, with some studies to support.

I also appreciate that there isn’t a login streak. It means that using the app is something I *want* to do, rather than something that I feel like I *have* to do.

And, obviously, the fox is extremely cute! I love all the customisable options for the house, it’s all great.

Thank you to the developers! You’re doing amazing work! I’m looking forward to seeing where you’ll take the app in the future.

### 5/5 — Seems highly useful.

*2026-09-27*

Thanks. I had to say I found this in the App Store because Hank Green’s YouTube wasn’t an option.

### 5/5 — A big help

*2026-09-24*

This app at first was just cutesy. The longer I’ve played it though, the more it’s helped me to understand what I’m feeling and how to deal with those feelings

### 5/5 — Love this

*2026-09-24, version 1.10.13*

Most engaged I’ve ever been into regarding consistent journaling. I love my little fox!!!
I struggle and this app helps me recenter and ground myself.

Worth the money

### 5/5 — Positive Start to my Day!

*2026-09-23, version 1.10.13*

I was hesitant at first because I wasn’t able to stick with Finch. But this app is different! It is much more about what’s going on inside my brain/body than what I’m putting out into the world or getting done. Which means it doesn’t add stress but helps me look inward!

### 5/5 — Super cute way to label and track emotions

*2026-09-23, version 1.10.13*

I have trouble making habits stick but I’ve been sticking with this app, because it found a way to gamify labeling and tracking emotions in such a cute, fun, and informative way. Highly recommend.

### 5/5 — Cute AND Helpful

*2026-09-23, version 1.10.13*

I have never enjoyed CBT in an office setting. Talking about stuff just makes me uncomfortable, or makes me feel like I’m a failure. The daily lessons in this app break down the principles of CBT and delivers them in a way where my ego sits on the sidelines. I can read the story and internalize the lessons so much easier. I use this in conjunction with DBT and I feel like it’s a great supplement. Also the characters are adorable and the writing is top notch. The fun rewards hit the dopamine receptors just right, so I keep coming back each day. A great choice for people who love whimsy, but aren’t comfortable talking about themselves for an hour.

### 5/5 — INCREDIBLE!!

*2026-09-22, version 1.10.12*

This has been an eye opener for me! Someone who is hyper vigilant and an undercover people pleaser. Foxtale will change lives! It has surely is changing mine! 10/10 highly recommend!

### 5/5 — Helpful

*2026-09-22, version 1.10.12*

This app is helpful and cute. It has made learning about and accepting my emotions simple with easy lessons that build on each other..

### 5/5 — Well thought out

*2026-09-21, version 1.10.12*

This is the only journaling app I use. I use it everyday. All the activities are so well thought out. This app truly is soothing. Helping me put myself back together 🥰

### 5/5 — Better than everything!

*2026-09-21, version 1.10.12*

Literally the best and all for free! An honest God send and I love that I can hand write with my apple pencil so it gives me that honest feeling. Not everyone is as fortunate as me and I am very grateful I just wanted to put that out there. Thank you.

### 5/5 — best app i’ve ever downloaded

*2026-09-20*

i don’t usually take time out of my day to leave positive reviews for things, but this one app in particular has been so helpful for me. i’m absolutely going through it right now, and this cute little fox is a small part of my day that helps me feel better about myself. it’s like they thought of everything. they call the tasks “side quests,” taking away all the pressure of it really being a form of a to-do list. the emotional education and advice is actually really good. the prompts you can answer throw you a gem from time to time that makes you think “this is exactly what i needed to address right now.” and this is all the FREE features. i can’t afford therapy. i can barely afford to live, but this little fox doesn’t want my money. it just wants me to be happy

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Force Closes

*2026-08-15, version 1.10.10*

Really excited about this until the app just quit on me 3 times trying to do my first journal entry. Now I’m over it :’(

### 1/5 — No free version

*2026-07-18, version 1.10.6*

This app as far as I can tell does not have a free version. The first time I opened the app it forced me into agreeing to a 7 day free trial before I could even start setting up an account or use any other features on the app. The app won’t send you a notification when this free trial is up and will automatically charge your card. Incredibly disappointing for a mental health app. It’s basically just a glorified digital journal and it doesn’t really teach you anything about depression/anxiety than surface level stuff that’s already floating around all over the place on the internet. Could be so much better than what it is. Could actually be useful, but it just falls short.

### 1/5 — Great app, no ads, and everyone can benefit from the free version

*2026-01-21*

I really enjoy this app and find it helpful. The daily check-ins have helped me immensely in understanding and reflecting on my emotions and why I’m feeling them. The app has helped me regain control of emotional spirals (ruminating thoughts, catastrophizing, etc) and it’s also just really fun and cute. I genuinely think everyone can benefit from using this app.

My one and only gripe is the price of the “Plus” subscription which is not at all required in order to use and enjoy the app. (I know the devs are very cognizant of affordability and making sure that critical features aren’t paywalled so that even people who can’t afford a subscription can use and find significant value in their apps. I really appreciate that.) I also use and subscribe to Bearable, another great app by the same devs, and I’d like to subscribe to Foxtale but an annual subscription is more than twice the price of Bearable. It would be nice if there were a savings bundle to subscribe to both at once.

But even without a subscription it’s an easy 5 stars from me!

Edit: Revised down from 5 stars because the new update asks you to disclose personal health information with the tenuous promise to “personalize the experience” and there is no option to opt out or not participate. I’m really disappointed to see this dev team gathering such invasive data points in the current political climate with zero regard for user privacy and no without giving users the option to not participate in these “features”. Yuck.

**Developer response:** Thanks so much for the kind words!!

EDIT - Hi Charlie, there is an option at the bottom called "None of the above" to opt out. We asked users to optionally disclose their conditions/disorders to help us understand who we might need to tailor content to, or what changes we might need to make to current content. Considering there is no sign in required for the app, this data is aggregated and totally anonymised and not attached to any personal information. I hope this clears things up, but let me know if you have other questions at support@joinfoxtale.com. Hi Charlie did you have any further questions?

### 1/5 — Cute but overpriced and doesn’t integrate with bearable

*2025-12-12*

I think the fox and interface are cute and it makes me think about my moods/feelings, but they don't transfer to the Bearable app, so I have to do it manually for the same app company. The journaling prompts are nice but not better than free iPhone options. I can do everything except the cartoon fox and without a new high subscription. I found a 50% off early offer on Bearable Reddit, but I couldn't use it since I already found the app in the App Store under apps from Bearable.

**Developer response:** Hi Reid, would you like to have a chat to discuss how we could improve Foxtale for you? I'm running some calls with early users and would love to find out how we can be better. Thanks

### 2/5 — Life Changing

*2026-10-03, version 1.10.14*

This app is life changing. I’ve shared it with my therapists and everyone I know. You need this app!

### 2/5 — Not at your pace

*2026-06-17, version 1.10.3*

The app is cute and has a lot of potential, but you can’t go at your own pace; you’re forced to go with the app’s pace, which is extremely slow. It only lets you progress a tiny bit every day, and there’s zero explanation for it. It’s basically like if you went to a new therapist who asked “What does sadness mean to you?”, then pushed you out the door and said “we’ll talk more about it tomorrow!” I truly don’t understand why it’s set up this way.

### 3/5 — It’s cute, but…

*2026-10-02*

Idk. I wanted this app to really be like animal crossing but for emotional health (like they claimed), but it’s just like Finch. It’s cute. It’s just not rewarding enough for my adhd brain. I’m over the clothing. You can’t really move much around in the room. You have to pay to be able to teach a lost animal what you learned from the deer, which is a great feature because after you learn the thing you have to remember the thing and teach someone else, further implanting it in your brain… but that’s only with the subscription. It’s also just not realistic for mood tracking, for me anyway. You send your fox on a journey with a mood check-in, and that goes in your calendar, but what if I do that at 9am and then have a totally different day after that. Or what if I do it before bed and I can’t remember all the highs and lows of the day? I think I once saw an option to add another thing after you’ve sent your fox on their way, but idk.

**Developer response:** Thanks for taking the time to write such thoughtful feedback. We really want Foxtale to feel like a little world you return to, rather than just a mood tracker with clothes, so making the home and adventure side more interactive and rewarding is something we’re continuing to work on.
You can add multiple check-ins/journal entries throughout the day, so one check-in doesn’t have to represent your whole day. But your review makes it clear we haven’t made that obvious enough, which is really useful for us to know.

We’re also really glad you liked the idea of teaching another animal what you’ve learned. We’re continuing to think carefully about the balance between free and Premium features too.
Thanks again for giving Foxtale a try and for explaining what you’d hoped to get from it.

### 3/5 — Bummed about the constant pressure to upgrade. Not great for my mental health

*2026-09-17, version 1.10.12*

This app is helpful for processing emotions and understanding them, but I do not like how they are constantly trying to get us to upgrade by showing all the add-on options that free users don’t get, like the advanced mood tracker information we don’t have access to and the items in the store.

Every time at the store, it only lets me choose between like three items in the first row, and those paying get all of the other items in the other rows as options, so we have to see constantly what we are missing out on.

I really do enjoy the app. The character is a cute companion, I enjoy the readings, the journal prompts and mood journaling are excellent, and I appreciate the concept.

I understand the app needs to make a profit, but I wish they could find a better way that doesn’t make us feel left out and be constantly reminded… this is a mental health app after all.

### 3/5 — Not for me

*2026-06-22, version 1.10.4*

I saw recommendations about this app, and at first I thought it would be a good fit, but after a couple weeks of using it, it feels more annoying than anything. I don’t like to journal on my phone, and I am frustrated sometimes when *people* ask me how I feel, so to have an app ask me how I feel and dig into what that all stems from just doesn’t work with my brain. I’m sure it’s great for some people, but not for me.

### 3/5 — Pay

*2026-01-01, version 1.7.16*

Of course you have to pay for it because why would anything be free especially when it comes to your mental health

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Actually, genuinely helpful

*2026-10-12*

I’ve been using Finch for a couple years and this is definitely a copycat, but in a way where I use both. It’s not replacing anything.

I’ve also been actively working on my mental health for years now, and this app was giving me new info within the first few days. I’ve been using it for two weeks and have no plans to stop. It’s made me aware of some trends that I didn’t realize I had, and it expressly says it’s not a replacement for therapy, but it’s been more useful to me than 95% of talk therapy has been.

It sure feels like a new app compared to finch, though. And yep. The first review was in Dec 2025. It needs some free tier expansion imo but I get they’re just trying to make money. They do have a survey I’ve filled out for what suggestions on new features and what you want to see next, and I’ve told them my ideas, so we’ll see what happens.

### 5/5 — Cozy Game Meets Self Help

*2026-10-10, version 1.10.15*

I love a good cozy game, but this one takes the cake! It is very inclusive, user friendly, and helpful for understanding the purpose of different emotions in a fun format!

### 5/5 — I Really Am Enjoying This App!!!

*2026-10-10, version 1.10.15*

This app is a great companion to my journaling and therapy. It’s very calming and insightful and I love the lessons and I love the scenery.

I downloaded this with my spouse as a connection activity, and have found that its peaceful atmosphere absolutely addictive. Great learning tool!

### 5/5 — Take it seriously

*2026-10-07, version 1.10.15*

### 5/5 — love it

*2026-10-07*

really cool app, very helpful! also the fox is so cute!

### 5/5 — Lifechanging!!

*2026-10-04*

I've been going through a lot in the past year and i'm diagnosed with PTSD, Anxiety, Depression and ADHD. Managing my anxiety and emotions seemed so overwhelming & impossible. But with the help of this app I've been able to understand my emotions more, manage my anxiety, and stop a panic attack in its tracks! I also love the reward system that lets you accumulate coins to purchase clothes, furniture or makeup for your pet fox😊
