## What is Fractaleid?

Ever heard of the butterfly effect? Perhaps it helps to think of butterflies when exploring the myriad potential visual forms embedded in the chaotic universe of this generative artwork. The slightest touch of the screen (or flap of a butterfly's wings) can lead - tantalisingly intuitively - to seismic shifts in the nature of the images your fingers will conjure.

### 5/5 — A great app

*2021-11-05, version 1.1*

It’s a truly classic idea for an app, and it’s done so perfectly well, so slick, smooth, fast, and the sharp graphics and seemingly endless variations are astonishing. Makes me wonder what the code is for it. I wonder if higher resolution images could be saved. Perhaps there could be other options, like for more colors or shapes. It’s a great app. I’ll add that it is possible to get animations that last for a few seconds or longer, at least on my iPad Pro, especially when there are spiral shapes. Given certain settings, I’ve been able to get certain patterns where spirals go round and round. They eventually stop, but I’ve had an image where the spinning continues non-stop.

It would be interesting to be able to freeze the image, which you can do, but then be able to scroll around, which you cannot do. As it is, if you move around, the pattern changes. It would be nice to be able to freeze the pattern, and then move around to see what it looks like beyond what you currently see on the screen.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the kind words. There certainly could be other options - I made this as minimalistic as can be (very simple video feedback algorithm, with just a couple of subtle details that make quite a difference to the results) partly as an artistic decision and partly as a way to actually finish and release something for a change... I do have some other app works in process, but keep getting distracted... Might consider adding a few more features to this as well. Maybe I'll at least make a very small update to further increase resolution on newer devices if I get a moment.

### 5/5 — Hypnotic magic now available for iOS 11

*2017-10-09, version 1.1*

Update 2017: Delighted that the developer brought this old favorite up to iOS 11 compatibility! Everything in my previous review still stands. Veteran users, be aware that the higher resolution may take a little getting used to. The visuals play out somewhat differently. I also had some problem with the Share button at first, but it seems to be working now. Guess I just needed more patience (running on an iPad Air, which occasionally hits a patch of sludge in iOS 11).

At the top of my wish list: a super slo-mo option. Some of the transitions disappear so quickly!

Original review: Mesmerizing imagery and movement. So glad the creator chose to show off the beauty of black and white. Simple yet perfect; I want to save every screen. The only thing missing is more information about the process behind the effects.

**Developer response:** Great to hear that you're still enthusiastic! I might at some point start some kind of beta testing program at some point soon, also should try to open up better lines of communication for feedback / feature requests etc. Generally hoping to up my game in terms of getting more stuff done and out there, so very much appreciate the encouragement :)

## Version history (last 1 release)

### 1.1 — 2017-10-05

This app has been updated by Apple to display the Apple Watch app icon.

Mostly a compatibility build for new iOS versions, also runs in higher internal resolution on newer devices (which in turn means saved images will be higher resolution as well). Hopefully still a good balance of resolution and speed for all generations of iPad.

Many thanks to all users and especially those who left reviews on the app store - always brightens my day. I hope to have some new stuff for you in the nearish future.
