## What is FractalScapes Fractal Designer?

FractalScapes is a unique fractal app. It can be incredibly powerful but beware, it does not make it any easier to understand the concept of graphical recursion which is what makes the fractals fractal! FractalScapes does allow you to create original complex designs if you have what it takes.

FractalScapes helps you create beautiful, interesting, geometric and plant like fractals. You can use the provided samples or start with someone else's fractal shared with FractalCloud.

FractalScapes is the only iOS fractal application which uses the touch interface to let you drag and drop rules for creating new fractals. Please see our video for an example of using your finger to rearrange the fractal rules and create totally new fractals with ease. 

Education:
FractalScapes is an excellent educational tool. The fractal creation is interactive letting students see the effects of different rule positions immediately. The playback feature lets them see the creation of the fractal step by step. The playback is interactive so if there is an area of the fractal they don't understand, they can slide back and forth through that area to see what is going on. In advanced mode rules can be selectively excluded allowing one to see the impact of a set of rules without deleting and re-adding them. 

Sharing:
* export as a PNG with a transparent background then post to sharing sites or import into a drawing package and create a forest.

FractalScapes takes inspiration from the book, "The Science of Fractal Images" by Heinz-Otto Peitgen & Dietmar Saupe, first printing, 1988, Springer Verlang. In particular, Appendix C "A unified approach to fractal curves and plants."

A brilliant, innovative art-math-toy thing where you compose (or adapt other people’s) a series of commands that control a simple drawing tool (“turtle”). Like move forward one step, or turn left, or change colour. Because the rules are recursive, small changes will make drastic, beautiful & fractallerific) effects. Worth the effort learning your way around the somewhat perplexing interface! Thanks to the developer for taking a risk and provided a totally customizable fractal app rather than a locked down, user-friendly novelty app where you change the colours of cheesy Mandelbrot sets.

In spite of this having a clean modern interface it is still impossible to figure out how to use. In my opinion one should not need to watch videos just to get started in an app. For example MacPaint in 1984. You could just see all the tools and it was obvious what they did.
Even Illustrator is easier to use than this.

  - fractal playback slider not being able to go in reverse. 
    You can now manually control the creation of your fractal using the playback slider in both the forward and reverse direction. So you can see how the fractal is being drawn feature by feature.

  - switching storage from "iCloud" to "Local" would not take effect without a force quit.

  - the "swap turn directions" rule was flaky and would cause the fractal to start in random directions.

  - Replaced the inscrutable "share" icon with the much clearer (for english speakers) word "Share". Apologies to all our non-english speaking users.

* FractalScapes 3D?
  We are working on a new companion app possibly to be called FractalScapes 3D. Hopefully it will be ready for a fall release.
