It would be amazing if it could be available as a complication and a widget on the Apple Watch! Much better free apps ### 1/5 — Breaking the rule of the internet *2025-04-15, version 3.2.4* When something is free never start charging for it, the app creator has announced to use widgets and get daily forecasts you are now going to need to pay a subscription, now to find an alternative. Extremely disappointing from this dev. (update to dev response) If operating at a loss, it would have been more appropriate to establish a charge from the beginning. Introducing fees for something that was initially free can come across poorly without proper communication. if you create an app and publish it you clearly intend for it to be used. I found out from a small notice in app that the charges where to be added as an example of poor communication. The response you provided felt unprofessional and emotionally driven, suggesting that someone may have been hurt and allowed that to affect their tone and conduct. Moreover, the assertion that the new charges are solely to cover operational costs is questionable when considering the current market rates for weather APIs. For instance, WeatherAPI.com offers 1 million API calls per month for free, with paid plans starting at $7 per month for 3 million calls. OpenWeatherMap provides a free tier of 1,000 calls per day, with additional calls priced at $0.0015 each. Weatherstack offers 50,000 calls per month for $9.99, and Apple’s WeatherKit includes 500,000 calls per month with developer membership, with 1 million calls priced at $49.99.     Given these competitive pricing structures, unless the service in question is handling hundreds of millions of API calls daily, the operational costs should be relatively modest. This discrepancy suggests that the new pricing strategy may be more profit-oriented than merely covering expenses. ### 1/5 — Bad widget *2024-11-19, version 3.1.15* Widget does not update and many times says no data available ### 1/5 — Useless, can not add location other than the GPS *2022-01-29, version 2.4* Why will someone make an app with such a basic limitation. You can’t see weather on another city unless you’ve been there. **Developer response:** You were always able to add cities, but try the latest version. But now the widget is only available if you pay for it and it’s unusually pricey. Guess I’m uninstalling it now! ### 2/5 — Disappointed *2025-07-27, version 3.2.10* The one thing I like about this app is that HOU Celsius, and Fahrenheit on one page. However, without paying for it, it doesn’t appear to show more than one city at once, doesn’t show your map, and is very dull in appearance. Only know I’m not going to pay for something if I can’t see what it does, especially when I can get free weather from other sources. ### 2/5 — Apps cool but subscription is overpriced *2025-04-25* While the app is neat and has some nice features, you can’t use the widget unless you pay for the subscription. It also does not work on the Apple Watch. I just wanted to Weather app that would show me both Celsius and Fahrenheit which this does, but I’m not willing to pay a sub subscription for just that. It doesn’t do anything more than the standard Apple Weather app, you can’t even click on individual days and see information for upcoming weather. It’s just like a 10 day at glance forecast with no detail of individual days coming up. Not sure how that is worthy of a subscription. If it was a one time purchase no problem. But monthly or annual payment for a simple weather app? That is absurd. **Developer response:** HI Chad12420 – Unfortunately, there is no free weather data service. Apple can offer their app for free, because the bundle it with selling you all kinds of other stuff. I've been covering the cost out of pocket but that is not sustainable anymore with the user growth I've seen. Keep in mind I am a hobby/solo developer who does this in their free time. I don't think a dollar a month is unreasonable or absurd, honestly. It's a bummer that you feel so negative about it but you are of course entitled to your opinion. ### 2/5 — Widget Offline even after paying *2025-04-09, version 3.2.3* Changing my rating from 5 to 2 stars on this app that I otherwise love so much. I understand there was a need to start charging for the widget. I paid the annual subscription fee, but my widget is “Offline” or missing from its slot most of the time. All basic troubleshooting attempted. Was this version not tested as thoroughly? I’m happy to provide additional details if needed and more than happy to change my rating once this is fixed, but right now I’m not getting the widget despite the payment. The only improvement I could see would be a very essential weather radar “window” you could seamlessly view in the app. I have to go to a separate weather app for a glance at a live radar. I’d never go elsewhere if I had that feature in Franz! But regardless, this app is so worth having. It’s also very easy to read and everything is right in front of you. I don’t have to go searching for things.
