I’ve fairly enjoyed it and has been a great way to pass time on long flights. I hope it gets fixed soon on the next update possibly. ### 2/5 — App does not work post june 9/10th 2026 update. *2026-06-11, version 6.1.2* the app logged me out when i updated it. i tried logging back in it had my enter a zip code, city, or country like usual. when i did enter my zip code, city, and country i got an error message that they were all invalid. i even tried entering my libraries name that didn’t work either. pre update this app is ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ with the only issues being the occasional lag spike and lack of decently niche artists. the app worked great before this update if you’re willing to wait for them to fix this bug this app is a great option for free music if you have a library card ### 1/5 — Update broke app *2026-06-10, version 6.1.2* Did update, now it cant find my library. Refuses to take any zip code in the USA. If you type a USA zip code it take you to Zurich. *2026-01-14, version 6.0.27* I wasted too much time attempting to input my location. Didn’t recognize my city. Typed in my US zip code and it brought up Zurich Switzerland. Typed in USA and it brought up Thousand Oaks CA and all the text switched to German. The most brain dead programming I’ve seen in years. Impossible to connect to a local library in the USA. Didn’t they bother to test this before releasing? What a steaming diaperload of disappointment. ### 1/5 — Classical music *2026-01-12, version 6.0.27* I’m so disappointed. I was really hopeful when I accessed this app, but there is hardly any classical music. A lot of the music this app classifies as classical is clearly something else. Not even standard composers like Beethoven an d Brahms are not covered. ### 3/5 — Could be better *2026-01-10* It’s ok but would like improvements on features. Ex:Shuffling is more like playing the same 10 songs out of a 100+ song playlist. Searching artists is wonky esp if multiple artists worked on a song—ex: 2 artists collabing on a song is considered a single artist entity rather than 2 individual artists so searching for one of the two doesn’t always bring up results. ### 1/5 — Don’t work *2025-11-04, version 6.0.27* I tried more than one to instal delete and reinstall and the app continues with bugs and don’t play anything and closes suddenly ### 2/5 — Ok *2025-10-09, version 6.0.27* I really want to love this because I think the idea of it is great. But the music they have is just OK. They don’t have a wide variety within your music genre. I hope this app improves. To start off with the good things: you can log in with your library card, it's free, and no ads. The bad thing that ruins the app for me: A VERY LIMITED selection of music. Most of the music on here are random cover songs that aren't good. I can't even find any actual Led Zeppelin songs?! ### 1/5 — Disappointing, Ridiculously Non-functional *2026-07-26, version 6.1.6* This is a truly awful app. Promises access to music but when you attempt to use it, it is poorly designed and extremely user unfriendly. Want to play the song you’ve found after a frustrating search? Sorry, no matter how many times you select it the song won’t play. But instead plays the song above or below the one you’re selecting. Of course you have the option of downloading it - without hearing it first. Incredibly non-user friendly. This could be an amazing resource for library card holders. And the necessary components are simply not that difficult or complex, yet Freegal manages to miss the mark substantially. ### 1/5 — Why change font *2026-06-16, version 6.1.4* The font size is small after the recent update. I am extremely disappointed with this app. It is not worth it to invest the time and expectation in a loosing cause. This version sucks ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Works well, though not a great selection *2026-07-17, version 6.1.6* I cancelled my Spotify a year ago and Freegal helps fill the gap in listening to music on my phone (along with a bunch of CD downloads I have). The app works pretty well, though they don’t have a great recommendation algorithm and the selection is a lot worse compared to Spotify. They don’t have most of the foreign or more obscure bands I listen to, and don’t always have the more popular ones, but theres still plenty of music to listen to there. ### 5/5 — Best Free Selection *2026-01-22* I am very pleased with the selection of music available when I log in with my county library card😊 I have even been able to find tracks from my favorite music publishers that even my favorite download store doesn’t happen to carry. If not, look for libraries in your area that do and are willing to issue you a card. Some libraries are more open than others. Once inside, this is better than any paid music subscription service out there; because not only is it free, you can download 5 songs per week to your own device! Over my life I have spent a fortune on first albums then 8 Tracks to cassettes to CDs to IPod - well, I have spent a fortune! This app has allowed me to create a set list of most of my all time favorites. Many are not from the original artist and many are not as good, but there are some takes that are better than the radio hit.
