## What is French Food Decoder?

The perfect companion for any English speaker visiting or living in France, the FRENCH FOOD DECODER is the most comprehensive app of its kind. Several years in the making, it includes over 1,260 articles covering the gamut of one of the world’s greatest cuisines.

With its superb ‘search’ engine the app provides instant translations of French food names, terms, and cooking techniques into English. Even if you’ve had years of French, it will help you read those excruciatingly complex menus, shop for food or try out a French recipe at home. If you’ve never studied French, it will save your bacon.

But the FRENCH FOOD DECODER is far more than a mere dictionary. In-depth articles feature anecdotes and background information that put France’s culinary culture at your fingertips. The app is organised by French regions as well as headings (Pastries, Fish and Seafood, Charcuterie, Sauces etc) so you know what to look for (and what to avoid!) as you travel around France. A useful map that works offline locates the home of hundreds of local specialities.

* Discover the different kinds of restaurants in France and how to order, plus a special section on food allergies, intolerances and vegetarians and vegans.

* Special entries cover French cuts of beef, pork, chicken and duck, along with useful wine words, fish words and cheese terms

* Learn about the Five Mother Sauces and their children, the names of everything in the kitchen, edible wild mushrooms, all about Cognac and French cheese terms — and which cheese is the smelliest (clue: its nickname is the ‘devil’s suppository’)!

### 1/5 — Useless

Does not really help in ordering food

### 5/5 — Another Must-Have

*2023-07-28*

I’ve had the Facaros Italian Decoder for a long time, and love it. Here’s another! As noted, it’s an incredible encyclopedia of knowledge. You can use it on the fly to look up a menu item, and use the map to alert you to menu and shopping items you shouldn’t miss while you’re there. And, use it to plan your gastrnomic travels in advance.

Or, spend a winter’s evening dreaming of France, and its amazing, quirky, time-tested food ways.

Get this app. You’ll be happy!

### 5/5 — Not to be missed if you love French food

*2023-06-27*

From the most obscure to the most common, Dana Facaros provides French food lovers with everything they need to know about foods and dishes from every region of France, told with good humor and clarity. The menu is easy to use, and the app is a handy tool for ordering in restaurants. Besides that, it is just plain fun, for exploring this enormous, renowned cuisine.

### 5/5 — All Questions Answered

*2023-06-24*

This app by Dana Facaros will enhance your French experience either in France or dreaming of being there. Maneuvering from one section to another is simple since the connections between the regions and the cheese, for example, are already established. Now I need to revisit France because the French Food Decoder will be such an asset in grocery stores, markets, restaurants, and travel in the different regions. The very informative narrative is spiced with tidbits not necessarily known to most readers, such as the story of Félix Kir. All my questions are answered about the plethora of cheeses and yogurts, fish and meats, breads and drinks. Now all I need is my favorite baguette de campagne and an apéro.
