## What is Fret Not?

Learn a song, then actually remember it.

Fret Not is a free practice app for beginner guitarists. Save every song you're learning with its chords, capo, strumming, and tuning in one place, so weeks later you pull it up and play instead of learning it from scratch again.

It's built for the first few months, the stretch where most beginners quit. Keep the songs you already know from slipping away, and jump straight back into the one you're working on.

FRET NOT PRO: THE SONGS YOU LOVE, MADE PLAYABLE
The songs you love are what keep you playing. Fret Not Pro makes them playable at your level. Add any song, even one you've never played, and Pro looks up its chords, matches them to your skill level, and picks the capo that keeps even a hard song in easy, open shapes.

So a song like Jolene comes back beginner-friendly at capo 4, not as C#m and B barre chords you can't play yet. Every chord arrives with a diagram, numbered finger by finger, so you're never guessing a shape.

Typing in chords yourself is always free. Fret Not Pro is the automatic way to do it, at $3.99 a month or $29.99 a year. Everything else stays free, and any chords Fret Not Pro finds are saved onto your songs to keep, even if you cancel.

WHY NOT JUST LOOK UP THE CHORDS ONLINE?
The big chord sites are built for people who already play: endless versions of every song, dense chord sheets, ads to wade through. Fret Not is the calm opposite. Just the handful of songs you're actually learning, chord-first, in shapes that fit your level. It's where you start.

EVERYTHING IN THE FREE APP
- Save chords, capo, strumming, and tuning for every song
- A shape diagram for every chord, showing exactly where your fingers go
- Chord identifier: tap a shape onto the fretboard and Fret Not names it
- A full chord library to browse any time
- Built-in tuner with real-time pitch detection and alternate tunings like Drop D
- Play along from Spotify, and import a whole playlist at once
- Add your own notes and a reference link, like the YouTube tutorial you learned from
- A practice streak that nudges you the evening before you'd break it
- iCloud sync across iPhone and iPad, no sign-in
- Works offline: your saved songs open with no connection

WHO IT'S FOR
Beginners who know a few chords. Fret Not won't teach you technique. A teacher or a video course does that. This is what you open on the days in between, to practice the songs you're learning.

### 4/5 — Great app but one small problem

*2026-02-09*

Love it but can’t see type in text fields when you’re in dark mode. Had to switch modes to see what I was typing.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback! Dark Mode was added in version 1.4.2. Glad you are enjoying the app!

### 5/5 — Lovely simple but well designed app

*2025-12-19*

this easy to use app can help for tuning or just keeping track of songs that you mostly know but just need to remember which chords and tuning and capo it might need. Nice to have a simple app that doesn’t require signing up or signing in.

### 5/5 — Sleek simple helpful app

*2025-12-16*

So nice to have a helpful guitar chords app (and tuner!) that is so simple and doesn’t require any signup or onboarding

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.0.1 — 2026-09-06

Introducing Fret Not Pro.

What keeps you playing guitar is the songs you love. But those songs are often packed with barre chords and hard keys that are out of reach when you're starting out, so you don't play them and lose momentum.

Fret Not Pro finds the beginner chords for your favorite songs instead. Add any song and it looks up easy, open chords matched to your skill level, with the capo that makes them playable, so you can play the songs you love now rather than waiting until you're good enough.

Take Jolene: it comes back beginner-friendly at capo 4 instead of C#m and B, and every chord shows a diagram of exactly where your fingers go.

Finding and typing in chords yourself is still free. Pro is the automatic way to do it, at $3.99 a month or $29.99 a year, and any chords it finds are yours to keep, even if you cancel.

Plus the usual round of polish and fixes. Keep the streak alive.
