### 4/5 — Fretuoso is fun!

*2024-10-29*

Fretuoso is a great tool for learning the notes of the staff and the location of the notes on the fingerboard. You can play it when you’re away from your guitar which is great on vacation or on a break at work. Thank you for a great product! Chad

### 3/5 — Faulty

*2024-09-13, version 6.14.4*

It will show a higher position for a note like high G then the A above G it shows a lower position on the same string. Just spent $9 to have false information.

### 4/5 — I want give this 5 stars

*2024-02-27*

This app is great for when you’re on the go: on the bus, in-line, or in bed. If you want to learn the notes on the fretboard without caring your guitar around it’s perfect BUT the sound will not work on my phone! I need to hear the pitch. All in all great app!

### 2/5 — Too many ads

*2024-01-16, version 6.14.2*

Like the app but too many ads. Ruins the app for me.

### 3/5 — Fret board trainer

*2023-09-22, version 6.12.7*

I can’t see which fret they want me to gues the note

### 2/5 — Paid for the full version, kinda regretting it.

*2023-04-19*

Generally speaking the app has a very dated Web 2.0 looking interface and it’s lacking in all but the most basic features that other software offers. Want to practice with only naturals? Sorry! Want to specify *any* options in ‘game’ mode? Again, nope. Want to increase the difficulty and skip the first 20 or so levels of basic 5 fret quizzing? Sorry! I was hoping for a ‘note hunter’ mode where you could be given a note and have to track them all down. This app is super basic, practice mode and a progressive difficulty quiz mode, that’s it. I recommend looking a Fretonomy instead.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback. We do have a lot of training options available, and you can limit notes to just naturals, or even particular scales if you want. You can also focus on particular areas of the fretboard.

Game mode is very limited in terms of options because of the scoring in leaderboards; every single player needs to be subject to the same rules of the game so that they can't artificially game themselves to the top of the global leaderboards.

However if what you want is advanced training options, all of that is available in the training modes. There's just no scoring and levels, but statistics tracking and so on still applies.

### 5/5 — Fun way to learn fretboard

*2022-10-25, version 6.11.2*

Really fun and nicely made app for learning the fretboard. The only issue is making sure I keep making time to use it.

### 5/5 — Ease of use …

*2022-10-06*

“The more that you can show “would-be” guitarists direct lines to “real-world music” …

the more that these dreams can become new ideas, ready to adapt to any number of dreams
!!!

### 5/5 — Me la recomendaron ✌️

### 5/5 — Love it. Wish 4 1 improvement.

*2022-04-09*

I LOVE this app. The only ask I’d have is if there could b an adjustment for image size. OR, even better; a version for pc. U can’t see the whole fretboard on my smartphone.

### 2/5 — True left hand mode please!

*2022-03-08*

Re-ordering the strings while keeping the headstock on the left is wrong. I really want to like this app and it's wrong to judge it harshly solely on this one issue, but this is a big deal. If the shoe (literally?) were on the other foot, you would do something about it.

Edit: I’m disappointed that this hasn’t been addressed, years later. Left hand guitar isn’t upside down right hand.

### 5/5 — Simple, spectacular app!

*2021-09-13, version 6.9.6*

Awesome. Paid version is totally worth it!

### 4/5 — Chords?

*2021-07-21, version 6.9.6*

Chords?

### 5/5 — Great app for learning the fretboard

*2021-06-29, version 6.9.5*

I’ve tried several apps and definitely like this one the best!

### 3/5 — Decent but too many ads

*2021-06-19, version 6.9.5*

Great teaching app but the ads are absolutely overwhelming. It is not worth the time wasted in ads.

### 2/5 — I hate the change

*2021-06-07*

I hate to change me I used to be for the lower notes actually saw the note now you what you do is you use 8vaTo see that it is lowerThat was helping me am I note reading
And now I don’t even get a guitar song for some reason that feature is not working with you click on it or not can I get the light version back again

### 2/5 — Suspect ads

*2021-04-19, version 6.9.2*

The app is ok but one of the ads came up trying to convert me to Christianity or something and the options to close the ad or go to the website being advertised looked like they were in Hebrew so as to try and hide what I was going to be selecting. Uninstalled for something with less hassle/risk.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Ridiculous consent requirements

*2025-06-04, version 7.1.5*

Looked promising but the first thing I had to do before even being able to use the app was to get through the consent screen. There was no “Reject All” option, so would’ve had to toggle each setting off - and there were lots of them. Sod that! I would have happily paid for extra content offered in the game as well. Hopefully the developer reads this and re-thinks the consent screen, as it does look like it would be a good app.

### 1/5 — Family share not working

*2025-05-24, version 7.1.3*

I paid to unlock all guitars. Family sharing as advertised does not working

### 1/5 — Ukulele fret board trainer

*2022-04-19*

I am left handed, so there is no option to switch alignment in the app. I want to cancel my subscription, but there are no clear directions and it is not found on my Apple subscriptions in settings. This means I will have to call my credit card to cancel. Not good. Please do better in the future. Yours, Lin Buer

**Developer response:** Our app doesn't offer subscriptions, only one-time in-app purchases to unlock the instruments. So there is nothing for you to cancel.

### 1/5 — No thanks

*2020-09-08, version 6.6.4*

Full of ads that interrupt you every 30 seconds.

### 1/5 — No sound

*2020-06-17, version 6.6.4*

Purchased app. No sound! Continues to say my phone is on mute. Can listen to Other apps no problem. Uninstalled and reinstalled it nothing. Not happy about it. If you can’t fix this please refund my money thank you so much

### 1/5 — Ads

*2020-05-25, version 6.6.4*

The ads make this nearly unusable

### 1/5 — Review

*2020-05-14, version 6.6.4*

I am just learning the Guitar and this app does not help me when I misunderstand things

### 1/5 — Better Apps in Store

*2018-02-14, version 6.2.1*

Way too many ads on the free version and the app kind of “forces” you to learn how it wants you to learn. There are better apps on the store that are cheaper, and even give more functionality than this.

### 1/5 — Unplayable!

*2017-08-06, version 6.0.4*

Extremely annoying how they place the "unlock guitars" right below the note selections, so you are constantly selecting it by mistake. Why do otherwise good apps feel it is necessary to scam, con, or annoy people into buying more? In this case it won't work. I've deleted the app!

### 1/5 — Annoying Reminders

*2017-07-21, version 6.0.4*

Went off with a unwarranted reminder to use the app during an inopportune time. Totally unprofessional and deleting app as soon as this is posted. A shame because this would be a great application and with many teaching uses.

But I will not use an application that is so pestering and sends notifications that are completely unwanted.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great tool

*2026-07-12*

Great for helping learn the fretboard on the phone especially when you’re away from your guitar. Pair it with an actual guitar and it’s even more fun

### 5/5 — amazing little app

*2026-02-14*

learned the guitar fretboard practically overnight with this app 🎸also was settled using tab until I turned on the staff-notes option. Unbelievably helpful to now read sheet music showing octaves

Not gonna drop it down to 4 stars for this but would have an option to fix the neck in place so the nut is always visible. Some of us don’t so much use fret numbers but view the neck graphically using inlays/markers

### 5/5 — Good way to learn the fretboard

*2026-01-18*

I’ve been using this to help me memorize the fretboard on the banjo. It’s also good for sight reading single notes. There are a lot of ways to personalize it. My only criticism is that the tunings for banjo are a little weird… but I assume there aren’t too many banjo players using the app so gets a pass. Would recommend

### 5/5 — Great!

*2025-11-29, version 7.4.2*

### 5/5 — For the price very good

*2025-10-25*

Very useful app. I’ve been using it every day to learn the fret board. One thing that bugs me a little bit. The random number generator that picks a new note for you to identify seems like it almost get stuck going back-and-forth between the same couple of notes longer than randomness would allow. I only do one string at a time, I’m not sure if that has anything to do with it.
Edit. A few months later… I continue to use and enjoy the app daily, but I’m still frustrated. The random number generator doesn’t work randomly at times and just get stuck oscillating between two notes for an irritating a long time.
Will the developers please take a look at this?
