### 1/5 — Not what I expected for $900

*2017-07-03, version 0.4.1*

In today's world of high speed data, I fail to understand why it would take up to 3 minutes to transmit a couple bytes. Also, the app will not work unless in landscape mode. I have this locked out most of the time, so that's a bit of a pain. Why not just duplicate the remote? Then you'd have two square layouts easily rotated to suit either orientation.

Update 4/2016: I have pulled out the USB module due to annoyances. If I choose to go smart in the future, I'm going to get a Z-wave ir blaster or possibly just pull the guts and rewire the whole thing. Even the fan speed is odd and doesn't go down to ultra quiet mode.

Update 7/2017: More control issues. The fan comes on but not the compressor. Careful examination found no electromechanical issues. Capacitor is good and overload has continuity. Found 2 additional thermistors going to the rear coils. More sophisticated electronics...$900, 2 years old, wifi control still not corrected, compressor may be ok but won't run. Goodbye Friedrich. I'm not even going to bother trying to fix it. It's going to the dump and I vow never to buy another.

### 1/5 — Is this ever going to be updated

*2017-06-25*

Your app is about to become obsolete. Why did I buy your a/c? It was because I thought you were going to stay up with technology. If I knew you were going to write a slow and barely responsive app and then never updated it I would have saved some money and bought a different unit. How about you do your job and get this think working for the modern iOS.

### 1/5 — Hardly works -- awful.

*2017-05-18*

This app is a mess. When you turn the unit on from the app, it often does nothing. When I turn a/c off from the app, the unit turns on, then turns off 2 minutes later. It doesn't reflect my temp settings accurately. Its GUI looks like it's from 1960. It has never been updated. Almost completely useless.

### 1/5 — Update App

*2017-01-24, version 0.4.1*

Update app! I was planning on buying 4 more units but after seeing what this app can do. Forget it! I'll just go for a cheaper GE model.

### 1/5 — Garbage

*2016-09-18, version 0.4.1*

This "app" is worthless. Don't buy Friedrich products.

### 1/5 — I am shocked!

*2016-09-09, version 0.4.1*

I can't believe a company such as friedrich should put out such a bad product

Even the web browser is buggy and does not work

This looks like a wifi product from the late 90s

It's time they improve this ASAP and fix the bugs

### 1/5 — this is a joke

*2016-08-24*

This app is a complete joke, usability is absolutely terrible. Whoever designed/developed this need to get fired. I returned my 80lbs Friedrich A/C unit and deleted the app from my phone. Will be getting another A/C or wait until someone release a proper smart A/C. Here is a suggestion: why not just hire the people from Quirky/partner with Wink? They did a much better job.

### 1/5 — Wifi adapter not included with my $1,019 a/c

*2016-08-02*

It's laughable that an air conditioner that costs more than a grand would not come with the necessary adapter to use this App. It took me a good deal of research to figure this out - waste of time. If you're going to rip customers off, at least be clear about it. The fact that the App is buggy to boot is final nail in the coffin.

### 1/5 — Great when it works

*2016-07-27*

It worked somewhat well whenever you're logged in, but now, all my units disappeared. I can't reset a password, that option doesn't exist. You have to click on forget a password to create a new one. 75% of the time, the app freezes and you can't do anything anymore. You have to kill it and log back in. Such a terrible buggy app. It's definitely a great idea but poorly implemented. Logging on to the web page is the alternative solution, which works just a little better.

### 1/5 — Garbage

*2016-07-24, version 0.4.1*

I agree with all reviews above!
This is garbage!!

### 1/5 — An absolute waste of time

*2016-07-24, version 0.4.1*

Simply doesn't work. Buggy, unresponsive. The worst part if that I paid $70 for the wifi adapter and now I realized I was just scammed.

### 1/5 — Barely functional, very buggy-outdated in 2014 when it was last updated

*2016-07-11*

This app appears to be just a web portal. It requires Landscape for operation and isn't reliable on an everyday usage scenario. Sometimes its works, sometimes it doesn't. The worst thing though is that the images on the Kuhl page on the web site imply a very different product, and its obvious that is just a promotional mockup intended to show you something better than reality. The iPad app uses the exact same controls with a lot more filler around them. All in all, this app was outdated since it was released, and is in major need of a new version. But since all those units are now out of warranty, why should Friedrich care?

### 1/5 — Sad & Embarrassing

*2016-06-24, version 0.4.1*

The app is absolutely awful, just look at the reviews... Would Nest or some one else please help these guys out... This really is a negative experience.

### 1/5 — Mom

*2016-06-16, version 0.4.1*

Got the friedrich ac and link and the link and app are useless. The link and wifi do not work properly. I hate it.

### 1/5 — Worst App, circa 2005, hard setup

*2016-06-08*

The Friedrich "app" isn't really an app. It is a mobile website that is not a native iOS app. It is awful. A-w-f-u-lllll! I am returning my wifi adapter and going to use Sensibo. Hard to believe such a big company as Friedrich won't invest more in home automation and mobile. Save your money and do not buy into their wifi. Good A/C but terrible user experience with technology. Don't be a sucker like I was!

### 1/5 — Not working.

*2016-06-01*

I tried using this for the first time this season. Won't load my user info nor find my unit, although if I sign in on my computer through a browser, it works fine. At least I know the network dongle it functioning.
This app needs to be updated for latest iOS.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Fix it

*2022-12-03*

I’m a contractor. This doesn’t get past the nag/information screens. Even the factory guy couldn’t help us. The dealer finally informed me it has never worked. I’ll be installing anybody else’s equipment but these fools.

### 1/5 — They should be ashamed of themselves

*2019-09-02, version 0.4.4*

Waste of time to even try getting this to work. Would be easier to train a pigeon to click on the main unit.

### 1/5 — Horrible, Doesn’t connect

*2019-08-26, version 0.4.4*

Just spend over $1000 on this ac for it not to work.

### 1/5 — Bad app

*2018-06-17*

Just a bad app. Starting the app should provide the last status of the ac. It doesn’t. Turning on the ac should provide the current status. It doesn’t. Periodically the app should update settings and temp. Only fan mode updates.
I bought this ac because of its remote capabilities. Love the ac VERY disappointed in the app.

### 1/5 — Has not been updated for years

*2018-05-30*

This app does not work with IOS 11. Continued calls and emails has gone nowhere. Wasted money on two units expecting WiFi
Update:
The app does work since first placing my review. However I was Promised the app was going to be redesigned in Spring of 2018 as it’s a very antiquated app design. So far no update has been released. My email has gone unanswered

### 1/5 — Such a disappointment

*2017-11-15, version 0.4.4*

Buggy app with a horrible and outdated user interface. Very slow and unreliable response time to air conditioning unit. You would be better off with a good basic AC unit and a Wemo switch (or similar technology).

### 1/5 — Needs ios11 app update

*2017-10-06, version 0.4.1*

App doesn’t work on ios11

### 1/5 — Update to iOS 11 please

*2017-10-01, version 0.4.1*

Update the app!

### 1/5 — App Needs An Update

*2017-08-10, version 0.4.1*

Either update the app or stop advertising that you can connect with an app. The app is in desperate need for an update and will soon not be supported if not updated (as Apple has been warning for a long time now).

### 1/5 — Possibly the Worst App Ever

*2017-07-11*

Seriously it's hard to imagine a more poorly designed and implemented app. Frequently fails to connect to AC, every time the app is launched user must login, when it does connect at. AC the lag from input to controls being executed is painfully slow. If you love Nest, as I do, it's just painful to think what is possible when an app is well designed and then think this app was written in the same era. An unmitigated disaster.

## Most praised reviews (7 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — I don’t own a product like this but

*2018-05-23*

Lg smart thinq have same problem too. Very lucky to make it work with the app and I was almost purchasing Friedrich product but now I feel better because LG SmartThinQ have same problem and I am not alone 😂🤣

### 5/5 — Counter to Negative Reviews

*2017-12-05*

First off, I'm simply a Friedrich customer and not affiliated or compensated by Friedrich in any way. This app works very well with the WIFI kit as long as you get the wifi plugin unit working correctly over your network. Friedrich has solved 90% of the issues reported early in the products life span. This app (as well as the home computer interface) definitely adds a huge convenience factor to operating the unit. Most negative reviews are likely related to user error or technical skill level or proprietary router settings. I love my Friedrich A/C Heater combo system and the app/wifi capability is icing on the cake.

### 5/5 — Need update

*2017-10-18*

This worked perfect for over 2 years. But does not work on iso 11. Please update your app.

I did not update my phone, it still works perfect there.

### 5/5 — Update needed for new IOS devices

*2017-09-22*

Great app but doesn’t work for IOS 11. Please update

### 4/5 — Good app but missing “Group" option

*2014-07-08, version 0.4.0*

The app works as the description states. The UI is well organized and easy to use. I would like to see the “Group” option added for multiple units similar to what’s available in the web UI.

### 3/5 — new update seems better

*2013-06-24, version 0.3.5*

still has issues though,
the app occasionally says "unit not online for XX minutes" but going to the web page from the computer and it worked fine
sometimes commands make it through to the AC, sometimes they don't.

### 2/5 — App ok

*2013-08-18, version 0.3.6*

Great air conditioners. The best in the market. The app? Eh... Setting up the AC units was a cinch. Took me about 30 minutes to set up five units by just following the instructions. The instructions, however, need updating. I NEVER had to do the step of pressing "system", "fan mode", and "timer" to get the "01" code which meant the AC accepted the programming. Maybe the last update did away with this step? If so, update the instruction b/c it's screwing people up. The app is so SLOW it's barely worth using if you're at home. Just use the remote control and be done. The app is only useful if you want to start cooling your house before you get there. If you're in a big house, just carry the remote in your pocket with your phone. Forget using the app at home. Just too SLOW. Maybe there's an update for this soon? Also, I sometimes get logged out and have to press login again. I don't have to re-enter the login info the way others have complained. Pressing login button is no real big deal. Still have to rotate to landscape view to control units though. Again, no real big deal. What would be useful is some kind of confirmation that the AC accepted your instructions. Once I used the remote to set the ACs to cool, then used the app to change it to fan only, which it did do. I went outside for a half hour and came back to a freezing office. The ACs reverted back to cool for no reason while the app still showed it was on fan only. This could have been a very expensive mistake had I done this on a Friday to return on Monday to discover the ACs had been running all weekend.
