This last update, with 3D view, is useful, but not major. When the app is nearly 300MB, please try and keep the updates to important ones - or save them all for infrequent updates. Children from four to thirteen have enjoyed cutting, pinning, and learning about frogs on my iPad. One father was so impressed that he hurried up and bought it for his young son. As a teacher in a world of shrinking budgets that allow us to share fewer and fewer hands on experiences with our students, this app provides a worth he next best thing. ### 5/5 — Fabulous for Science *2011-10-06, version 1.7.1* What We Liked: If you are at all interested in incorporating a study of frogs into your science studies this year, you won’t want to miss Frog Dissection. SO much more than dissection is included in the app (though that of course, is really neat!) While much of the anatomical information is written at a junior to senior high level, even my young children like to dissect the frog – the audio instructions make it easy, watch the videos, and explore the interactive activities. This is a very comprehensive app when it comes to frogs. I learned quite a bit about them that I never knew before. There is really a wealth of information included in this app, you could easily use it as the core of a frog unit study. I love how it provides a ‘hands-on’ experience to help cement learning by dissecting the frog step-by-step and through the ability to rotate the organs, slide through the life cycle, and interact with the digestive and respiratory system. The art and videos are all very well done – the frog isn’t lifelike enough to REALLY give you the willies while it’s being dissected, and neither are the organs – they’re all obviously computer generated, but…that can be a good thing sometimes! Everything in this app is very professionally presented – it’s just top notch. When I showed my mother (still homeschooling my little brother) this app, she was amazed. She’s been considering buying an iPad and this app alone almost threw her over the edge – it’s that good. What We Didn’t Like: Not a dislike necessarily, but it would be nice if the app was set up for multiple users in the quiz section (it keeps track of scores, but if you have several children it can’t differentiate between them). Also, some sort of search function would be very helpful for looking up specific information about frogs within the app. Overall: If dissecting a frog is part of the requirements for your students in high school biology – this app will save you the trouble of hunting down a stinky dead frog for a lab. Even if your children don’t NEED to dissect a frog and just want to learn more about frog anatomy, live cycles, or anatomy, you’ll want to buy Frog Dissection. ### 5/5 — Great, Waiting *2011-08-22, version 1.7.1* This is a great, wonderful looking app. However, I'm still waiting for the rest of those frog videos! I learned a lot about anatomy in just a few minuets exploring this app! Dissection isn't the only thing it can do, either. It also has animated videos showing things like the frog life cycle and how they eat, as well as interactive quizzes, info about the different species of frogs, lots of picture- enhanced and interesting info, and instructions on how to do a dissection on a real frog. It would be nice to have the ability to move the 3D organ image in all its axes rather than just a horizontal rotation. Personally I think this is totally cool but many moms don’t enjoy winning this item and reluctantly select it. Recently, I discovered a wonderful app that will permit your homeschool kids to learn about dissection and discover the interesting organs in a frog without having the mess to clean and the handling of a dead frog in your house. The app is Frog Dissection and it is packed with interesting information on top of the dissection ability. The images in this app are very realistic and 3D . The dissection activity is guided with a step by step voice over which help you to proceed to the experiment. Once the dissection is completed, you get the opportunity of learning more about the various organs in a frog. The app allows you to turn the organ in a 360 degree to observe it on various angles. I always was fascinated with biology. My 2nd son likes animals a lot and he was the first one to use this app. He wanted to do the dissection by himself while following the instructions. The app also contains information about frogs, some videos showing how frogs jumps, catch flies and sing, a quiz on frogs and their organs as well as an anatomical comparison of humans with frogs. Needless to say, this app is packed with information that will make a wonderful science lesson for your kids. Honestly, I am impressed with the quality and the information found in this app. I am recommending it to every homeschoolers who don’t want to handle the real live dissection. In conclusion, I hope that the creators behind the Frog Dissection app will consider coming up with other apps like this. For example, items I would love to be able to dissect would be: mussels, sheep heart, grasshopper, bird, pig,… I could come with numerous ideas to spice up the biology lessons. ### 4/5 — Frog dissection *2011-02-21, version 1.6* Nice visuals. Overall, a good app. There are grammatical errors and some basic human body parts mis-labeled in the frog vs. human comparison.
