### 3/5 — Needs better monster management

*2025-11-25*

Having the monster numbers populate automatically is very annoying. You need to kill off the monsters and re apply them to select the #s, since drawing from the stack IRL is random. If this app let us choose the monster #s when you open a door or start a scenario I would use it over xhaven.

### 4/5 — Good app

*2025-10-27*

Any chance the instruction book could be added in the future?

### 3/5 — One step forward, two steps back

*2025-10-13*

This app does a phenomenal job at eliminating the tedium associated with gameplay, particularly the enemy management. It determines their turns, deals with their damage and conditions and it even helps digitally track your own characters’ status.

The real problem though comes with what it doesn’t do. Frosthaven added a ton of tedium over Gloomhaven with the post-game cleanup managing the settlement and crafting. The app doesn’t help at all with that and if anything that’s where it’s most needed. What tedium this app saves is far outweighed by the tedium the game added. I’d rather it replace the town management than the combat management.

What’s worse about the town management stuff is that you do it AFTER having already played a couple hours and finishing an encounter. Your game night feels like it’s ended but then you have all the cleanup you don’t want to do because you’ve already played a couple hours. It feels like cleaning up the table is just massively more tedious but the app doesn’t address that.

This is probably more of an indictment of Frosthaven as a game than this app itself but the app is intended to smooth out the experience with the game but it ends up not going nearly far enough.

### 4/5 — Great app, but needs fixes

*2025-02-02*

Some bugs:

Hope this gets fixed.

Imobilize, strengthen keeps getting turned off before the next turn.

Wound and regenerate keeps getting re-added after removal

### 2/5 — Still need to fix bugs

*2024-10-30*

I can’t find where to submit bug tickets so here goes:
- auto expire condition is wrong. Sometimes when the monster is given a condition after its initiative during the round it will auto expire when the round is over. That’s incorrect. It should auto expire after the end of its next turn in the next round.
- the hp over threshold is good for certain class but now auto regen regenerate past max health for characters who don’t have such perks
- loot deck augmentation doesn’t show for non-host players
- please add option to check off boxes on the two special loot cards
- also for immersion please add the name of the card of each enemies at the top of their cards. I know currently we can tell what card it is by tapping on the card themselves but imagine how much better it would be not having to do that. Also a way to view the full set of abilities for a monster set would be good

### 3/5 — No previous game characters

*2024-08-11*

Purchased this to help with automating card draw and element tracking. However, we started Frosthaven with previous characters from Jaws of the Lion, which is allowed. The problem is that previous game characters are not built into the app. So… until our party retires previous characters, this will be a digital paper weight. A bit disappointing that this isn’t listed anywhere before you purchase.

### 2/5 — Functional

*2024-06-13*

Seems functional but is pretty janky (not buttery smooth) when scrolling. UI difficult to use even on iPhone 15 pro max. Everything is very small (some text is basically illegible) and squashed. It seems to work though.

### 3/5 — Really could stand to be better

*2024-04-26, version 1.4.7*

The board game is already $200-250 and then the app is another $8 on top of that I really thought it would have better polish. At first I was pretty happy with it: whenever you open any door automatically having the section book entry populate the correct enemy values was pretty nice. Having it auto regenerate and wound is handy. Populating the loot deck is sweet. It doesn’t keep track of any campaign info which is… whatever. Maybe the unofficial Kingdom Death app which will track how many nose hairs you have spoiled me on that front. But it really lacks some functionality in the one area it’s supposed to be helpful for. If you add any status effects to someone who has already gone earlier in the round it will automatically strip them when any turn passes. Especially annoying when that effect is Bane and then you hit undo and it automatically gives them 10 health back even if they had less than 10 to begin with so you don’t know what their health is anymore. It will regenerate people over their max health. It automatically removes bane poison and wound when you heal but for some reason does not remove brittle. Etc.

### 3/5 — Lacking some much needed features

*2024-01-07*

The design of the app is pretty good but unfortunately I’ve had to stop using it because it lacks envelope x content, summons, proper objective tracking, and the flavour text (ability names) on enemy cards

### 3/5 — New bugs in new version

*2023-10-10, version 1.4*

Great update recently but now can’t add monsters when pressing the add monster button

### 2/5 — Latest Update Causes Major Problems

*2023-10-07*

Update 1.4 breaks character summons. Also NPCs/Objects cannot be given hit points. Also characters cannot increase their hit points above maximum to account for items like the Traveling Cloak.
Prior to 1.4 characters could not increase their maximum hit points to account for items like the Traveling Cloak, and positive and negative effects would end at the end of the round rather than at the end of the character's next turn which will almost never be at the end of the round.
Updates are supposed to improve the app's usefulness not decrease it!

### 3/5 — buggy

*2023-10-07*

boneshaper cant make summons anymore and the add monster button doesn’t work. very annoying

### 3/5 — Bugs almost to the point of uselessness

*2023-10-05*

When playing Frosthaven scenario #8, clicking on the “Create summon” or “Add monster” buttons didn’t do anything. We couldn’t add hounds as the scenario advanced, so we ended up using the free x-haven assistant app. I prefer the visual design of this app and I look forward to the improvements and fixes that would make this app fully functional. A companion app is definitely easier than managing all the tokens and cards and counting!

### 3/5 — Nice but could be better… for the price

*2023-09-14*

Improvement suggestion:
- Being able to switch off each monster not by category but by number would make tracking easier, especially when a lot of the same kind is present.
- Customizing loot deck (ex: when adding +1 to a material card)
- Auto add NPC for specific scenarios

### 4/5 — Getting better but still needs some features

*2023-08-13*

Having been see the app for a few months now I appreciate the work that has been done and additional features that have been added. It gets the job done and streamlines the game management a ton.

One feature my group would really like to see is being able to reposition initiative order after drawing cards. I have two quick examples of this need. First if a player opens a door, monsters not currently on the board are added at the initiative order of their cards but they should be added as going after the current player. The app should either add them at the right place or allow us to move them manually. The second use case is when using boots of speed to change your initiative order after the draw. The whole point of this item is to change initiative order but the app does allow us to reflect that.

### 2/5 — Not working

*2023-06-26, version 1.3.4*

The app was working great and I thought it was a nice streamlined way to play, once bugs were taken care of. But recently it got bugged out completely and my old saved game cannot be used at all. I have to create a new party to play it. Fortunately, the campaign isn’t tracked using it

### 4/5 — Good app

*2023-05-20, version 1.3.2*

Good app overall. The new keypad for initiative has the numbers in the wrong order though. Can this get fixed?

### 2/5 — More updates, still bad

*2023-05-05*

It’s getting better each update but it still has poor UX. Adjusting health is tedious and has no indication of responsiveness. Still wish you could put character name in. Lots of little things like normal enemy add button is left of elites, when it makes more sense to be on right and therefore indicative of how it’s used after adding. No drag to adjust health. Having to choose level before seeing characters is annoying.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Just runs cards

*2025-05-06, version 1.4.7*

This is not an app that helps you manage the scenarios or outpost. All it does is help with card management. Waste of money.

### 1/5 — Rare updates, app has display issues

*2025-04-12*

It seems they’ve released this half-baked app in tandem with the release of the game. I opened a bug report for this “weird” thing that happens to me and my friends where the app covers half the screen with a zoomed-in card.

Support non-responsive, no updates to app in almost one year. What a drag. The non-official app has better update cycles hopefully

### 1/5 — Missing needed cards

*2025-03-01, version 1.4.7*

I bought this for scenario 81 because I needed to reference some cards I was missing physically but the app was also missing those cards.

### 1/5 — Summons seem broken

*2024-03-16, version 1.4.5*

Prism and angry face cant summon at all.

### 1/5 — Not worth a penny

*2023-12-22*

Have an iPhone and this app is constantly broken. As one thing gets fixed other things are broken. Worked ok but then I couldn’t add NPCs or modify health. Now I can do that but my monster modifier deck won’t work. How do you release a patch and not regression test at least the major capabilities of your app. Very sorry I paid for this as it has caused as many headaches as it has helped streamline the game

### 1/5 — Cannot effect summon hit points… or summon them…

*2023-10-07*

Cannot increase staring hitpoints above starting amount (matters for my current class).

### 1/5 — A pointless, fiddly, cumbersome mess

*2023-07-11*

This is trying to fulfil a need that doesn’t exist. We already have a free app called X-Haven that does everything you could ever want from a Gloomhaven / Frosthaven helper and it does every single thing better than this. I am currently watching the Lucky Duck stream where they are talking about how much they are listening to the community to improve on it. No, they really haven’t. By far, the worst thing about this app is the clunky way you are expected to type in initiative numbers for ever single character, every single round. X-haven let’s you drag and drop into the right order which is so much simpler and less clunky. It’s an unforgivable design mistake. I have been asking the devs to implement this change for ages and nothing has materialised. That is just the worst thing but there is so much wrong with this app I could write a whole essay on it. It should be studied as an exercise in how NOT to make a boardgame helper app. Do yourself a favour. Download the far superior x-haven app and save yourself the headache!

### 1/5 — Broken App

*2023-05-19, version 1.3.1*

Unable to add curse and blessings after new update was pushed

### 1/5 — Don’t buy this

*2023-04-02*

Not worth 10 bucks at all.

### 1/5 — Broken, again

*2023-03-29, version 1.2.5*

Yet another bugged version from a paid app. Use a free app that is better supported, not this constantly useless broken and very infrequently repaired work from first-time programmers

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Super handy, time saver

*2024-08-03*

Lots of useful features are tucked away. Easy to track initiative, HP, conditions. Can even use it to draw modifier cards but then you lose the perk of being able to stack the deck while your buddies aren’t looking 👀
It’s a little laggy, but very much usable. Not a deal breaker.
You can host a room and have multiple people join from their own phone (using the partner app to this - it’s free and has the same functionalities, but it can only be used when connected to a room hosted by someone with this paid app). If your phone is locked for more than a few minutes, it kicks you out of the room. It’s easy to rejoin but annoying to enter that 6 digit room key each time.
One benefit I wasn’t expecting is the time savings! Scenario setup is so much faster without having to sift through all the monster sheets and ability cards. When it draws ability cards, it has the option to only display the attack/move values after being modified from the ability (as opposed to Attack-2 and then you have to do the math yourself). That’s also really handy

### 5/5 — Fixed the bugs

*2023-12-01, version 1.4.3*

Thanks for fixing bugs

### 5/5 — Can't add monster

*2023-10-06, version 1.4*

The "add monster" button is unworkable. Please fix it.

### 5/5 — Great App

*2023-05-18*

This app is great. It has all the bells and whistles that are needed and wanted to make the Frosthaven experience amazing. They just came out with an update and it looks like the connectivity issues we had are gone. That being said, a few things I think things that would help are: initiative input should have the option to be masked to other players until the draw button is pushed. (This has been fixed) The ability to randomize the number of the monsters being put on the board (the ability is here to do this but hasn’t been implemented into each scenario. It still puts out all the monsters in numeric order. ) The boss deck that was updated doesn’t have any detail on it when you click on it (like when you click on the card that was drawn by monsters). They just had an update and it messed up the enemy deck. You can no longer add or curses or bless to the enemy deck. It’s weird because it used to work just fine. I hope they fix this. The loot deck is still broken and unusable. They made it so you can see who drew the card but you can look back more than 5 cards so it really doesn’t help at all. Otherwise, Really impressed and will continue to use this app.

### 5/5 — Indispensable

*2023-03-12*

With the update they pushed out since the last time we played Frosthaven, this app has become a perfect companion to the game. Couldnt imagine playing without it

### 5/5 — It’s clean easy, and gets the job done

*2023-03-12, version 1.2.5*

This app works great. I like the sync, counting rounds and handling the elements decaying, and tracking health and conditions. Awesome.

### 5/5 — Rapidly Improving

*2023-02-26*

The companion app really speeds up your setup and tear down time, which increases your play time. The app was very buggy at the beginning, but has been addressing issue and improving the user interface incredibly quickly. I’ve never seen an app improve at this rate. Highly recommend.

### 5/5 — Seems better than it used to be

*2023-02-26*

People were saying that X-haven is better, at least compared to how this used to be. I am unsure how this app used to be a year ago, however it seems significantly more polished than X-haven now with a few features that doesn’t have (ally mod decks) and a slightly cleaner ui.

### 5/5 — Great App

*2023-02-26, version 1.2.3*

This app is great. It has all the bells and whistles that are needed and wanted to make the Frosthaven experience amazing. They just came out with an update and it looks like the connectivity issues we had are gone. That being said, a few things I think things that would help are: initiative input should have the option to be masked to other players until the draw button is pushed. The ability to randomize the number of the monsters being put on the board. The boss deck that was updated doesn’t have any detail on it when you click on it (like when you click on the card that was drawn by monsters).

Really impressed and will continue to use this app.

### 5/5 — Awesome Companion App

*2023-02-03, version 1.1*

I can’t wait to use this for our first session in a couple of weeks. This app has by far improved upon some of the annoyance the Gloomhaven app has. Not complaining, just more of a matter of preference. The mobs are added, including the amount of said mobs, based on number of players is huge. Tracking multiple parties for multiple games going on, huge! I look forward to fixing in further but for now, 5 stars well earned.
