The companion app for Frostpunk: The Board Game introduces a completely new and optional Trade game mode. It may also be used as a phase tracker and, among other features, it enhances your experience with immersive music from the video game. The app is not required to play the tabletop game - using it is optional and introduces some new, alternative ways of resolving game rules and provides a measure of convenience. In Frostpunk: The Board Game, in order to survive, you will need to constantly balance your decisions between managing and growing the city, and maintaining the morale and mood of its citizens. After the apocalyptic global cooling, the only heat comes from the Generator in the centre of the city. If you neglect it, everyone will freeze to death. The people who rely on your decisions are all that remains of humanity... Many lost their loved ones, and all of them were ripped from their previous lives and thrown into this new, harsh reality. We’re always looking for the round reference card amongst all of the components, so having it on a phone is great. The automated weather is nice too and makes me wish the dusk and/or morning cards were also automated. Good companion application, which performs as advertised. Being able to stream the music from the companion application to external speakers would elevate it from good to great. Don’t make an iPhone app if you can’t send the soundtrack to the Apple TV. I have played Frost Punk on the Xbox many times, including all the scenarios. There has been a bit of a learning curve to adapt to the minor changes needed to translate a video game to a board game, but I cannot express more about how helpful this app is. This app allows me to focus more on the game and quickly jump to the right place for an explanation of the rules instead of thumbing through the rule book. I especially appreciate the linking between pages in the app such as actions allowing you to quickly jump to the building appendix. The board game has very high replay value even when doing the same scenario since there is multiple, randomized board starting configurations, starting rules, starting technology, starting citizen cards, and starting dusk cards.
