### 3/5 — Exceptional Midi Controller With Major Flaw

*2025-08-27, version 1.5.23*

Would be substantially better if you could use midi to input notes onto the piano roll. Being required to use the touch screen alone to input notes is tediously unnecessary.

### 3/5 — There is no discount on bundle for classic owners

*2025-05-26, version 1.5.22*

There is no discount on bundle for classic owners. It’s actually a penny more through the bundle.

### 3/5 — Nice little app

*2024-03-10, version 1.5.19*

I had higher expectations about it.
Not sure why its limited to 4 tracks.
The sequence’s length could be extended. Would be great.
The rounds knobs make life difficult to set a value.
The app is easy to use though.

### 5/5 — Brilliant - any updates for the future?

*2023-10-11, version 1.5.19*

This app is so wonderful - be great to have new randomisation and some kind of arrangement possibilities to upgrade as this would really help for musicians creating evolving ambient music.

### 5/5 — Amazing MIDI Controller

*2023-09-24, version 1.5.19*

I love this app to control both synths and drum machines. I would love it even more if a random note generator were added. If that increased the price it would be worth it.

### 3/5 — Remplacé par Riffer

*2023-08-30*

Je ne l’utilise plus depuis que j’ai découvert l’appli
Riffer car celui-ci a un mode aléatoire c’est pour ça que j’ai enlevé 2 étoiles et aussi parce que le concepteur n’a pas daigné répondre à mon avis ….

### 5/5 — Simply amazing

*2023-05-29, version 1.5.19*

Just updating my review as I’m still using this app many years after purchase. So unique, very inspiring and a central part of my iOS music making process. Delighted to see it still gets maintenance updates by the Dev. Very very good. Highly recommended.

So good. Really great idea. The ultimate idea generator. An essential part of my iOS music workflow. Thank you for making this brilliant app.

### 3/5 — I love it but

*2023-05-12*

I guess the developer stopped to work on it. Sad because it’s a great creative tool

**Developer response:** I maintain it, just updated actually. It's done for now though. Working on something new.

### 3/5 — Cool concept but playback is wonky

*2023-04-20, version 1.5.16*

Playback on iPhone 13 mini is wonky and sounds randomly shuffled and out of step regardless of buffer or playback settings. Really a bummer since it makes listening to what should be an amazing little piano roll kind of unbearable.

### 5/5 — Amazing, but outdated

*2023-04-12, version 1.5.16*

Alckemy here.

This little device has become a major staple in mobile sound design and idea crafting inside of Drambo.

A multi playhead sequencer is almost like having a “bach” button that creates super inspiring progressions and sequences and is highly usable.

I’m its current state it’s already awesome, but I do think some updates are in need as I don’t think the app has been patched… ever?

I don’t need much, just the ability to set the playback mode to a hz rate, nudge the notes off grid, and some tweaks to copy/paste as it does not work for me outside standalone.

On that note, it’s weird you can’t save or pull up presets while using it in plug-in mode, although it will remember the state if you save the entire rack in either drambo or Aum.

I wish this app existed in bitwig or as a plug-in for the computer. It’s mad handy

### 5/5 — Thanks for adding MIDI channels per playhead

*2023-02-03, version 1.5.16*

Now me wants microtonal Scala/MEP support. Make it so

### 5/5 — So much fun!

*2022-12-12, version 1.5.16*

I’ve wanted something like this for years. The ability to pipe the MIDI out to external apps is awesome since the app only has one sound. I just wish there was an audio version.

### 5/5 — Wish all the arrow play buttons were /on off

*2022-09-25, version 1.5.16*

See title….great program ; …also wish you could set each note to its own individual velocity and bend

### 5/5 — Superb app, fun and deep

*2022-04-02, version 1.5.16*

Works flawlessly with IOS apps or external midi and a lot of fun. A quick request please, if the option key could also work from my magic keyboard instead of just the screen button, the select workflow would be hugely improved?

### 5/5 — Simply Brilliant

*2022-01-22, version 1.5.16*

Fugue is my first midi sequencer that I use to audition and write music. It plays well with all my synths on the iPad as well as my Waldorf blofeld hardware synth. This is deserted island must have.

### 5/5 — Amazing Fun and a Creative Tool

*2022-01-09, version 1.5.16*

Possibly the most fun app I have. A fantastic idea generator with a brilliant implementation. Best part is the midi output is so simple to manage - I can send ideas to my desktop and fine-tune sounds in a DAW with almost no effort. Very worthwhile

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Are you Seriously Going to over charge

*2025-05-23, version 1.5.22*

Price gouging for your apps on iOS
A community will be built to watch
For these type of Developers.
We understand how much it
Takes be fair, that’s all we ask fair
but keep in mind we consumers
Who make or break the sales of an app.

Price gouging is the act of taking unfair advantage of a situation, like a disaster or emergency, to sell goods or services at prices that are significantly higher than normal. It often happens when demand is high and supply is limited, and the seller can charge excessive prices because customers are desperate

### 1/5 — Lack of Support and Updates

*2025-05-20, version 1.5.22*

I’m very disappointed the features of the new Fugue Machine Roboto app weren’t simply brought into this app as an update for a reasonable price. The fact that an “update” is $80 with no discount for owning the original app is frankly ridiculous and an insult to the iOS community that supported this developer. Compared to what you can get for $80 from other developers’ apps on the App Store, the successor to this app is a joke.

### 1/5 — iPhone functionality is gross

*2023-11-06, version 1.5.19*

Can’t communicate with GarageBand, but yet it shows up as an AUv3 option. When clicking on it, it just migrates to fugue… can’t change sounds, only pitch… I saw a video of someone using this on an iPad and they were able to have this app communicate with a few different ones and from there, change sounds/instruments… if this is not an option for iPhone then why make this available for iPhone?? It’s not even an option to copy the MIDI into GarageBand! Seriously, if you can’t fix these issues then for iPhone this should be a free app. I paid full price but got maybe 5% of the app. Not cool man… and this app is even advertised as an “additional extension” within GarageBand. So to be fair, I’m equally disappointed in Apple about this. This app looked so useful 😔 I guess it serves me right for paying for something and expecting to get what I paid for 😞

### 1/5 — Spielzeug

*2022-03-12*

**Developer response:** Sorry to hear you haven't found Fugue Machine useful for your music making process. If you haven't yet, I'd recommend having it control other sound sources via MIDI to truly get the most out of the tool. In any case, if you're still within Apple's return window, you're welcome to return it by going to iOS Settings > Apple ID > Media & Purchases > Purchase History > Fugue Machine, and request a refund if the option is available.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t let you export in an easy way

*2021-07-14, version 1.5.16*

Need to use iTunes

### 1/5 — Arnaque au téléchargement

*2019-12-30*

On ne peut plus le réinstaller après desinstallation car n'est plus compatible avec mon ancien iOS. Argent perdu et logiciel de même

### 1/5 — Zieht Strom....

*2019-03-05*

....obwohl die App garnicht aktiv ist. Seit dem letzten iOS Update

**Developer response:** Fixed this issue as of 1.5.0. It now properly stops audio processing when inactive in the background.

### 2/5 — Ok

*2020-02-26, version 1.5.16*

Ok

### 2/5 — GarageBand IPadOS support?

*2019-12-24, version 1.5.16*

Lovely app, tons of possibilities. But.
I play in GarageBand on theAir Pad 3. Fugue Machine does not show as an AUv3, only as an IAA. And will not respond even then.
I know the whole Apple decision to go AUv3 has caused a fair amount of headaches for you (amazing) developers, as the current & admitted issues that AudioKit is having with my D1 & FM AUv3 plug-ins shows, but can you let me know here if this is gonna get resolved? Only Twitter, etc’s for your contact support here via your website, and I’m not doing them at the mo'.
Thank you very.

### 2/5 — Gammes imposées

*2018-08-26*

Impossible d’associer certains accords dans le même pattern puisque des gammes sont imposées et il est impossible de les désactiver

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great sequencer

*2025-12-07*

Enjoying it! Would be even better if it would support notes input via MIDI

### 5/5 — Very powerful

*2025-11-28, version 1.5.23*

This is very very convenient for getting as much as you can out of a simple melody.

### 5/5 — Wonderful creative tool

*2024-12-31, version 1.5.21*

This is one of my all time favourite apps, it can create the most beautiful and interesting melodies based on a very well designed user interface.
My only wish is to be able to have different loop lengths for each track, it would make endless possibilities for counterpoint and phasing music. Fingers crossed this becomes a feature.

### 5/5 — Digitone’s Best Friend

*2024-11-03, version 1.5.21*

I wish so badly that it was possible to input midi notes without having to touch the screen. Being able to input with a midi keyboard would be a huge game changer. No the less.. this tool is absolutely amazing.

### 5/5 — The best!

*2024-10-01, version 1.5.21*

Simply the best sequencer ever made.

### 5/5 — MacBook

*2024-08-25, version 1.5.21*

Absolutely love this! Would be great if it worked or could be used in DAW on my MacBook Pro :)

### 5/5 — Very creative app.

*2024-08-25, version 1.5.21*

If I could make one mini request, would be possible to make the text for note name a bit larger and darker. Thx

### 5/5 — AMAZING

*2024-07-17, version 1.5.20*

If you know what auv3, DAW, and MIDI mean, just buy this now. It's fun, it's instant, it's inspirational and it's usable in almost any situation that calls for MIDI instruments. If you don't know what any of this means, probably not for you.

### 5/5 — cool but

*2024-03-30, version 1.5.19*

how do i load it into logic?

### 5/5 — Sooooo gooooood!!!

*2024-02-14, version 1.5.19*

This an amazing and very well done sequencer. Great tool for creating complex or simple yet interesting melodic sequences. The multiple playheads each doing there thing really bring the patterns to life. I'm a score composer for Snap judgment and I use this all the time. I also use it as my main melodic sequencer in my live set sending each play head to separate synths. Highly recommend! Pretty much the reason I got an iPad. It's a game changer!!
