## What is Fun Spectrum Analyzer?

Fun Spectrum Analyzer is a live audio spectrum and visualizer app for iPhone and iPad. It uses the device microphone to turn the sound around you into animated frequency displays, peak meters, waveform views, 3D spectrum graphics, radial analyzers, vector-style visuals, and colorful fractal-inspired motion. One mode is even inspired by 80s vector-based video games. We even have a safety meter inspired system that uses commonly known sounds as reference to compare against for loudness. Set alarms and get notified when the sound level is above your pre-determined safety level. The feature is for reference only, not scientific data collection.

It is built for fun, music, rooms, parties, DJs, home audio testing, and anyone who likes watching sound come alive. Use it as a casual analyzer, a background visualizer, or a nostalgic display inspired by the glowing meters, spectrum analyzers, and hi-fi color palettes of classic 1970s and 1980s audio gear.

Fun Spectrum Analyzer includes multiple visual modes, adjustable response controls, sensitivity, attack and fade behavior, peak displays, estimated SPL (Sound Pressure) readouts, theme-based color styles, and layouts designed for both portrait and landscape on iPhone and iPad. Safety mode includes the ability to set an alarm for when sound reaches beyond acceptable limits.

This is a lightweight free-to-download, pay to unlock freemium app with no subscriptions, and no hidden upgrade costs. Buy the app once and enjoy the full version for life. We have gone out of our way to make sure use and enjoyment is as pain free as possible. After all, who needs PAIN when downloading apps? Note: Sound Analyzer is for entertainment and casual reference use. It is not a certified scientific, safety, legal, medical, or industrial measurement instrument. The developer and publisher of this app makes no promises, implied or otherwise, of the app's ability to produce scientifically reliable measurements.

## Version history (last 3 releases)

### 1.2 (120) — 2026-10-14

Added the new and very exciting Solar System Visualization. Control zoom, star field, and effects on different aspects of the solar system including the Asteroid Belt. Enjoy full 3d camera fly-bys on the planets as the sonic visualizations take place all around you.

Re-arranged the setup screen to be more friendly, organized and avoid as much vertical scrolling as possible.

Bug fixes- minor bug fixes in layout as well as one navigation bug causing jitter in the setup screen during visualizations.
- build 120 also has the fixed bug per last review on the legal page terms and conditions, being able to check the box. confirmed working.

### 1.1 (80) — 2026-09-21

Several new features have been integrated and updated. We even found a bug that was not critical, but made navigation a problem on the setup screen. The big change is the change to freemium which opens up sampling the app before purchase.

Bug Fix:
In 1.0 (53) the drop down for mode would stay in focus behind the drop down for theme, and would cause confusion for the deck so when a tap on the theme was to change a theme, it would actually be changing a mode. Eliminated.

Features:
1) Added new shapes and changed some of the graphics in the Vector Tunnel mode. This is a throw back to an 80s Vector Game called (Tempest) so we tried to make nostalgia hit home even more for the Boomer crowd. We added several mode shapes, and a random mode that now cycles through the shapes on a pre-determined time cycle set by the user. The zoom in or "WARP" effect now morphs between shapes. The "ship" now resembles the classic game shape better, and the lasers now emanate from the correct features of the ship.
2) Vector Squadron was updated to look more like the game it is bringing us back to, the Star Wars Vector game from the 80's. Display remains the same for the frequencies, but we added a cool new "SCORE" feature. How do you score points? Easy, just listen to some music. Each frequency will peak in it's own column. When the peak is hit, a score is displayed. The Turbo Lasers will zap the peak frequency number and BAM! Instant score add! One of the coolest things is listening to a complete song and seeing what a song "scores" for it's frequency score!
3) Safety Mode added. This new mode gives the app a little more utility than the fun its all about. It still makes the mode fun though. This mode shows a meter with commonly referenced noises in the real world. ie: Screaming Baby, yeah, that is 110db... Jack Hammer, 130db right there. The meter quickly shows what the current sound environment is experiencing. Outside of the visual, the setup now shows Alarm (on/off), Alarm level (used for setting the trigger level) and Alarm Vibrate. We even included Lumen Field, home of the Seattle Seahawks, as a reference because many parents worry about their child's exposure to noise levels there. This way they can double check along with using the ear muffs.

Change:
We have changed the purchase model from PAY and download to Freemium, to allow for new users to experience a bit of the app before they commit to purchase. Of course, ALL purchases are still for life unless we are forced to change. But we want to make life simple. Download, enjoy. If you like it, unlock the cooler features and enjoy it for life!
