### 4/5 — Works now!

*2021-10-02*

This is an update to my firs review below. It seems Morten managed to fix something as the version 1.10.0 now works for me! This is a pretty cool extension, thanks for your work!
It even works on my iPhone's Safari!
---
Sorry but this extension doesn't seem to work, at all. (No furigana shows up.)
I'd be glad to be proven wrong though, as this is something I could really use.

**Developer response:** Dear TokyoSto,
the latest update (1.10.0) should improve stability and performance, especially for longer webpages. Please give this update a try and let us know if things are working (or still not working) for you.

Cheers from Tokyo

Morten

Great extension.

### 5/5 — 한자를 읽지 못하는 분들에게 정말 도움이 될 확장 프로그램

*2019-02-13*

한자 위에 후리가나를 추가하여 보다 쉽게 일본어를 읽는게 가능하다.

### 5/5 — wow

*2018-10-11, version 1.0.2*

This little tool is a great extention. Currently tying to learn japanese and often come accrose Kanji i dont know. The toggle function allows me to find out the pernunciation so i can look it up and then turn it off so that it does not become a crutch. Thanks a lot.

### 4/5 — Ottima!

*2018-07-30, version 1.0.1*

Appena scaricata e aperta una pagina wikipedia in giapponese: basta premere il bottone sulla barra degli strumenti e i furigana appaiono ben posizionati sui kanji. Mi sembra davvero buona e soprattutto gratis.

### 4/5 — It could be better!

*2018-05-13*

I really like being able to read kanji now! But I wish I didn’t have to click the button everytime, I wish I could just leave it on for as long as I need it.

### 5/5 — Brilliant!

*2017-12-05, version 1.0.1*

I just tried this and found that it actually works.
It writes the furigana above the kanji so that you can read kanji that you might not actually know already.
After installation, a new button appears in the menu bar at the top of Safari.
To use it, just go to aJapanese website and click the button. All the furigana appear above all the kanji on the page. (occasionally, some pages did not seem to work but most are ok).
This is a great time-saver if you want to find an unknown kanji in a dictionary.
Impressive and most useful.

This extension is very usefull for me! but after the last update, I can’t install it on safari… I click on button “Install” but nothing , the Furiganify button doesn’t appear on the toolbar of Safari...

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback. In principle, nothing has changed with regards to installing Furiganify! in version 1.0.1. Clicking the 'Install' button in the App should open the Extensions tab in Safari Preferences. You should be able to install Furiganify! from there manually as well. If Furiganify! does not show up as an available extension, please try restarting Safari. In case the issue persists, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

### 1/5 — 日本語でおk

*2022-09-02*

音読み、訓読みの間違いが多すぎ、笑かしにきてるのかと思うくらい
メニューが開けない等、正常に作動しないサイトも多々ある

### 2/5 — Ida

It doesn’t work on iPad

### 2/5 — needs updates?

*2023-04-04*

the picture describing how to use the extension appears to be an older model of an iphone and cant be used on other browser than safari🥺

### 2/5 — non funziona

*2020-04-21, version 1.0.3*

bellissima idea ma non mi funziona nonostante l'abbia anche reinstallata

### 3/5 — It works on my iPhone but not my iPad

*2025-01-20, version 1.0.7*

Exactly as the title says

### 3/5 — Great but too flawed for learning Japanese

*2021-12-03*

This extension has the potential to be great, and I'd really like to rate it 5 stars. Unfortunately, there are too many mistakes in translating kanji to furigana for it to be viable for learning Japanese. This is rectified somewhat if you switch from the default IPADic to the System Dictionary, but there are still mistakes.

I have to recommend Safarikai over this, but if the mistakes are fixed in the future then I think using Safarikai in tandem with Furiganify! could be an excellent way to learn Japanese vocabulary for beginners.

### 3/5 — Almost there

*2020-01-04*

It does make mistakes on less common words (for a good demo try it on a list of judo techniques)
And It'd be much nicer if it had a filter feature like "Simple Furigana" by the same developer has. So I could have it ignore kanji I already know.

### 3/5 — Not Perfect

*2018-09-27*

This might be good for beginners but if your Japanese is fairly advanced and you just need the occasional assist, it can be kind of annoying.

- I have found quite a few mistakes.
- Does not continue working as you browse, so you have to hit the button every time you go to another page.
- VERY CLUTTERED.

I gave it a three because I would like to see where it goes from here, so I am not deleting it, but it is no replacement for Safarikai which also had a dictionary and only showed the reading if you hovered over a word, so no clutter. Would have given it a 4 if I had not found mistakes.

### 4/5 — Feature request

*2026-04-04*

Can you make it permanently turn on for all web page, it is annoying to turn on for each pages

### 4/5 — Almost perfect

*2025-05-19, version 1.0.7*

This extension is great, but sometimes the layout looks weird. Nonetheless I use it a lot.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2025-12-04, version 1.0.8*

The best app I’ve found for reading Japanese with furigana. Why? Because you can simply browse on Safari and have furigana displayed, which means unlimited sources.

You can also filter out words you don’t want furigana to appear onto (e.g. you can deactivate furigana for JLPT5 words).

My only suggestion, so far, would be to add a word filter that can be personalised.

### 5/5 — 非常好用！

*2025-11-06*

Please add an option that makes the ruby text uncopyable(user-select: none in CSS), it’s way easier for me copying sentences to LLM and asking for grammar explanations.

### 5/5 — 진짜 좋은 어플

*2025-07-09*

유료어플보다 좋은 어플임. (유료어플 사서 써보다가 이거 써보니까 이게 진짜임) 실제로 mecap에서 api돌려서 자료 따오시는듯... 사파리 읽기도구에서도 활용될 수 있다면 더 좋을듯

### 5/5 — Works as Advertised

*2025-05-08*

Thank you very much for this extension! Made life a lot easier for me.

### 5/5 — Works great!

*2024-03-24*

Not sure why other people are giving bad ratings when it clearly states that this is for Safari only. Works well for me. A few kanji having the wrong pronunciation, but that’s true for almost all the apps I have tried. Great app!

### 5/5 — Does exactly what I want

*2023-08-14*

Quickly adds furigana to Kanji on a webpage in Safari. Easy to use...not really anything to complain about.

### 5/5 — Really nice extension

*2023-05-05*

Very helpful to learn Kanji. I hope you to fix some problems like turning off not working after turning on in some websites.

### 5/5 — 오호라, 이 어마어마하게 좋은 앱에 리뷰가 1개뿐이라니

*2023-01-14*

혼또니 감사드림다

### 5/5 — Such a great idea!

*2022-05-10*

It can read pretty much correct. Japanese use same Chinese chalactors but read in different accent. It can read correctly!!!!!

### 5/5 — Best for Japanese learners with experience

*2021-11-05*

Pros:
Easy set up.
Not intrusive in its application
Furigana looks fine

Cons:
Application may give the wrong furigana reading

I will explain what I mean above. The application will always give you a correct way of reading a kanji. But sometimes it will give you the wrong one. For instance, in the app, the 新 in 新しく will be given as しん or shin. However, 新しく is read as あたらしく (not しんしく). 新 of course can be read as しん as one of its readings. So you can still use the reading this application gives you to look up the kanji and the word you want to search in the dictionary if you need to. It seems this mainly happens for kanji that appear in words in conjunction with hiragana. So words like 明日 or 食堂 will be fine, while 新しく and 1匹 may have a slight mistake.

I say the application is still good for me because I've studied Japanese for a while now and can pick up on when this happens. The application is useful for me when there's a word I don't know. It just is a slight inconvenience that's all. This is something I'd say is the next step for improving the application. However, as it stands I say it's still very useful and am grateful to have it.
