Many will not even take MA applications. I searched on upstate MA to try to get further away but no luck. I like to find foster animals rather than going to a shelter (our first cat was a stray). I reached out to a couple and they invited me over and let me interact with the kittens they found. It also does not allow you to search by size. So I can flip through dozens of chihuahuas (I live in the SW) before I get to anything of reasonable size (I’m NOT a small dog person!)
