### 4/5 — Android

*2019-01-01, version 2.1.0*

Great app! Just need an android version

### 3/5 — One major flaw...

*2014-09-27, version 1.3*

I haven't been able to test this out because I entered ONE unsupported zip code and I was locked out for life. I was planning to try a bigger city option around where I work but the zip code entry is a one time deal. Unless I try to delete the data for the app or delete the app Itself (which may work), then I have no chance of ever seeing this app in action. Please fix!

### 5/5 — Best bang for your buck

*2014-08-07, version 1.0*

I can't believe how much progress I have made since starting with my GAIN trainer. We met at my local gym a few weeks ago and ever since I have been getting daily workouts from her sent to my phone through the GAIN app. I am training for my second half-marathon and knew I needed something a little more diverse to assist in my workout routine, in addition to someone there to motivate me (aside from my workout partner) and hold me accountable for my workouts. In the past I have had a personal trainer but realized how expensive that got--plus, who wants someone standing over them and counting their push ups for them! With the Hybrid Personal Training from GAIN, I can workout where I want and when I want while having the luxury of the personal trainer to prescribe me workouts to help me get a PR in my half-marathon! Great app overall, highly recommend for anyone who want to hit a goal. Seems a little pricey, but in comparison to a traditional personal trainer..not so much.

### 5/5 — Love it!

*2014-08-07, version 1.0*

I love this new way to work with a personal trainer. Constant accountability with a trainer and it's affordable!

### 5/5 — It works!!!

*2014-08-06, version 1.0*

I always thought that having a personal trainer would be the best way get/stay in shape. Thank you GAIN Fitness to finally making it affordable!

### 5/5 — Great app + great service

*2014-08-06, version 1.0*

My life is hectic and I've ignored my health in the past, but hybrid personal training made it convenient to work with a trainer. After a month of service I am already seeing results.

### 5/5 — Revolutionary

*2014-08-06, version 1.0*

This is the future of personal training. Cheaper than a full time trainer but just as motivating. You have a real person on the other end designing your workout and keeping you accountable yet it won’t cost you several hundred dollars per week.

### 5/5 — Awesome app! Already seeing changes

*2014-08-06, version 1.0*

I have used GAIN's old apps for months but wanted something a little more personal and something to hold me accountable. I have met with my personal trainer twice now and could not imagine working out without a personal trainer. She gives me a new and challenging workouts to do every day and then follows up with me to see how it went and asks if I have any questions. My wedding is three months away and I can already tell I am going to be happy with the way I look!

### 5/5 — Pretty cool

*2014-08-06, version 1.0*

Meeting with a real trainer and having them keep me busy at the gym, this is what I need.

### 5/5 — Happy with my new trainer

*2014-08-05, version 1.0*

App provides a great way for me to keep in touch with my trainer as a travel. Loving it so far.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Abandoned?

*2022-01-20, version 2.1.2*

This app used to have an amazing range of exercises. It seems someone along the way had the idea to focus on making money via the trainers instead of exercisers. But the exercisers have the disposable income and the desire to be alone… I bet if you brought back the exercises and charged a monthly fee a few dollars less than Planet Fitness, you’d have a good income. Please do that.

### 1/5 — Not the same app

*2020-04-10, version 2.1.2*

I used this app when it as first developed and it helped me lose weight without a gym membership. This app has completely changed and it’s so disappointing. I remember it used to provide daily workouts for free. It would track your progress and I loved everything about it. This was back in 2013. I don’t ever write reviews but wants to let the developers know that this app is now completely useless. One of the features it used to have was video visuals of exercises in your workout. Seriously miss the old app. This is garbage.

### 1/5 — Scam software

*2019-09-25, version 2.1.1*

Beware! Rogue company! I haven’t really used this app and only created a test client account on the trainer app without using it. Since then I’ve been receiving spam emails from Gain and Paypal invoice requesting me to pay $7.99 per month. There was no indication at the time of creating a client account that I needed to pay. I have deleted the app since but continued to received bills from this rough company. If you want to charge, charge it properly through Apple store subscription. Don’t charge people for services they are not told that they need to pay and send suspicious billing emails!

### 1/5 — Doesn't work

*2016-08-22, version 2.0.3*

90% of the time this app just pisses me off and makes me want throw my phone.

### 1/5 — Great concept, horrid execution

*2016-06-24, version 2.0.3*

I've been using the Gain Fitness app with my personal trainer for about 9 months. When it works, it's amazing, because I get a custom built workout that I can do on my own and the workout guidance, voice-overs and exercise videos are great. The problem is that the app is horribly buggy. About 25% of the time, I can't get my workout due to some technical problem with the app. It also fails 75% of time to allow me to give post-workout feedback to my trainer. I've reported this bug repeatedly, but it hasn't been fixed in MONTHS. That's the final problem - no customer service and no responsiveness from the company. If there were another option like this, I'd switch in a heartbeat to eliminate all the frustration.

### 1/5 — Where is this?

*2015-07-22, version 1.8.7*

Confused and not in my area but advertised that it is

### 1/5 — Worthless download

*2015-01-03, version 1.7*

There was nothing to this except a potential meetup. No reason for this to be an app.

### 1/5 — Useless since no pt

*2014-08-29*

Great to launch an app with a remote pt but if there is no pt available why did you launch it?

### 2/5 — Bad UI and Low Dev Support

*2019-01-02, version 2.1.0*

I've been using this app for the last 9 months and have seen very few updates to it's clunky UI. For a month it was point blank not working. That being said, it's an effective way for me to communicate with my trainer.

### 2/5 — Not as advertised

*2014-10-12, version 1.3*

The biggest problem with this app is you can only enter one zip code to get pricing, after that you are locked to that zip code and cannot change it. I live in fairfield county, Connecticut so I had to do several accounts, tried denver zip 80123 and it said not available, finally did a San fran zip and got $129/month. If you pay a private trainer cash here, one that doesn't work at a big box gym, you can get nearly once a week training for that price. So the advertised 1/5th cost is misleading. Waste of time.

### 5/5 — Trainer and Nutritionist

*2023-01-26, version 2.1.2*

Birdy is the best!! She keeps in touch and pats me on the back and let’s me know how proud of me she is and how great I’m doing!!

### 5/5 — My workout

*2021-03-03, version 2.1.2*

I truly enjoy this app, 1 of the best apps ever 😊

### 5/5 — Gain

*2020-03-08, version 2.1.2*

Best app ever! Great workouts. Nice variety. Very motivational!

### 5/5 — Guided workouts from my trainer!

*2020-03-06, version 2.1.2*

Love GAIN’s guided workouts that my trainer makes for me. So easy to follow, and love how the timers keep me on track. There’s nothing else like this out there!

### 5/5 — LOVE IT!!!

*2018-09-25, version 2.0.8*

I joined GAIN Fitness 3 years ago and it’s been my go-to workout app ever since. The virtual trainer relationship has been surprisingly effective in getting me to workout more often and at a higher intensity. Also, being assigned workouts keeps things fresh and interesting.

### 5/5 — Very different experience

*2015-03-12, version 1.8.2*

I started with a gain trainer 8 months ago and I have never felt more fit. I've never done anything like this - in person and an app but it is cool and it works for someone busy like me.

### 5/5 — Makes me feel like a rich movie star!

*2015-01-15, version 1.7.1*

I’ve been using Gain Fitness for 2 weeks now. It reminds me of Uber limos years ago - bringing the "personal trainer" luxury to the middle-class. Gain fitness makes me feel like a rich celebrity with a personal trainer who does regular HOME VISITS!!

Pros:
1) I like how I can now workout from my home. I am much more likely to maintain my workout schedule. No more smelling like sweat on the bus with other sweaty people at 6PM. No more bringing gym bags to work. No more showering at the gym. No more commuting 20 min to the gym on a Sunday afternoon.

2) My trainer (Matthew) is a certified personal trainer! When I was on a work trip last week he setup a hotel friendly (i.e. bodyweight) workout for me. I also like how I can text him anytime if I have trouble with a workout. Matthew also happens to live 2 blocks from me (I'm in SF), so it makes home visits very easy.

3) It REALLY helps to stay motivated when you have a trainer (real person) who you meet once to few times a month. In theory I can ask the trainers at my old gym for help too, but maybe I was too embarrassed. At the gym they always try to up-sell you stuff. In fact, they build their business by having you pay and then rather you never visit?!?!

Cons:
1) I would say that the app is 70% done. I found some small bugs here and there. Also, some of the animations can be clearer.

2) I would like to be able to attach photos and videos in the chat with my trainer. Right now the messaging is text only.

I emailed Gain Fitness for a special deal where I pre-paid 9 months and received a set of free home equipments ($300 value). I end up paying about the same cost per month as my old gym membership (~$70). I would recommend investing $200 on a home gym if you have nothing.

### 5/5 — Personal Training of the Future

*2014-11-26, version 1.6.1*

I have been working with my trainer for three months now. I LOVE the service. I used to work with a personal trainer that charged $120/session. GAIN Fitness charges only a little more than that, BUT I get workouts personalized for me, from my trainer, four times/ week. Essentially It costs me the same as meeting with my old trainer for an hour as it does now when I get around 20 workouts/ week from my trainer to do over the app, in addition to meeting her in-person.

Perfect for anyone that doesn't want to pay $120+ for a trainer do be with them in-person but still wants the structure and quality that a trainer provides. Also great for me because I don't have time to schedule training sessions but it is a service I appreciate and need.

Really innovative service--highly recommend.

### 5/5 — The best workout app

*2014-10-19, version 1.4*

Personal training for on the go. Great app and much cheaper than a traditional personal trainer.

### 5/5 — Yay for flexibility and accountability

*2014-09-12, version 1.2*

Full time mom + full time job. Really hard to keep exercise a priority even though I want to. This service has been great. My trainer plans these awesome workouts and then I actually do them cuz she'll know if I don't. :) I can do them at home or at the gym and whenever I'm (finally) available. It really does feel like having a trainer in you pocket.
