## What is GainCut?

You spend 6 hours a week under a barbell. You track every set, every rep,
every progressive overload. But when it comes to food, you're estimating.

And that's why you're stuck.

That isn't a discipline problem. You have plenty of discipline. It's a
measurement problem — the gym half of your training is logged to the gram,
and the kitchen half is a guess. GainCut closes that gap.

PHOTO-FIRST MACRO TRACKING
Point your camera at your plate. GainCut identifies the food, works out the
portion, and logs the macros. No food database to scroll, no barcode to hunt,
no entering every ingredient by hand. Trained on real portions — including HK
and Chinese staples like char siu, rice, noodles and dim sum — because those
are the meals that actually break generic trackers.

RECOVERY, NOT JUST CALORIES
Training load is only half the picture. GainCut reads your heart-rate
variability, resting heart rate, and sleep from Apple Health, then turns them
into a plain-language readiness score. You get told what the number means for
today's session — push, maintain, or back off. No dashboard to interpret, no
guessing whether you're recovered or just motivated.

THE SEVEN DAYS THAT COUNT
One good day proves nothing, and neither does one bad one. Your macros move
your body over a week, not in 24 hours — so GainCut scores you on a rolling
seven-day window.

It also separates the two things most apps blur together:
  • Where your body is actually heading — measured against your real,
    measured burn, not a formula.
  • How closely you hit your own target, day to day.

Those can point in opposite directions, and both can be true at once. A week
that looks flat on the scale can still be the week you nailed your plan.
GainCut shows you which one you're in — including on maintenance, where the
goal is to stay, not to cut.

BUILT FOR PEOPLE WHO TRAIN
• Set your own surplus or deficit — 0 to 1,000 kcal, not a fixed default.
• HealthKit-synced weight and body-fat trends, so progress is measured, not felt.
• A food database tuned for real, cooked, restaurant and home-cooked meals.
• Fast manual logging for the days you already know what you ate.

If you're exact in the gym and approximate in the kitchen, that gap is the
whole problem. GainCut is the other half of your training log.

Track what you lift. Track what you eat. Stay in the green.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.4.20 — 2026-10-11

What's new in this update:

• Fixed photo scanning. If you tried to snap a meal and the app couldn't analyse it, that's resolved — point the camera at your plate and your food comes back as normal.

• Clearer errors when something does go wrong. You'll now see the actual reason instead of a generic server message, so it's obvious whether it's worth retrying.

Thanks for your patience if you hit this one — it affected every photo scan, not just yours.

### 1.4.17 — 2026-10-01

• A smarter Recovery card — readiness score built from heart-rate variability, resting heart rate, and sleep, with plain-language explanations of what each number means for your training.
• Your goals, your way — dial in a custom calorie surplus or deficit (0–1000 kcal) instead of the fixed defaults.
• A clearer 7-Day Balance card that separates body composition from how closely you're sticking to your target, with an honest daily score against your actual measured burn.
• Improved AI food recognition — more relevant search results and more accurate quantity estimates.

Plus fixes and polish:
• Fixed sleep being double-counted (recovery now shows your true hours, not ~2×).
• Fixed the History → Body range picker not updating when you switched ranges.
• Fixed the manual "Quick Add" flow where the keyboard would stick and food wouldn't add.
• Faster, smoother tab switching, with the History → Body view now loading instantly.
• Better readability — dashboard text scales correctly at larger accessibility sizes.

### 1.2.1 — 2026-08-28

Fixed food search — Open Food Facts now surfaces relevant foods instead of brand-name noise
Improved AI food identification accuracy for common meals
Fixed AI photo analysis connectivity (API key rotation)
Fixed AI-estimated food quantities (grams now shown and editable)

### 1.2.0 — 2026-08-13

1.2.0
• New: Search a much larger food database (Open Food Facts) for instant nutrition when your meal isn't in the built-in list
• Fixed: weight chart now shows your preferred unit (kg or lb) consistently

### 1.1.5 — 2026-08-06

• 7-Day Balance Card — see your rolling calorie surplus/deficit at a glance with a daily sparkline chart. Track whether you're on target for your Gain, Cut, or Maintenance phase.

• Split Into Ingredients — one tap to break a combined dish into individual foods using AI. "Fried rice" becomes rice, egg, oil, spring onion — more accurate tracking with less guessing.

• More Reliable Snap — if photo analysis fails, a "Start New Scan" button lets you retry immediately instead of closing the app.

• Food Database Search — search all 167 curated foods by name or category when logging manually. Plus save your frequent meals as presets for one-tap re-logging.

• Improved Food Recognition — AI cross-references photos against our curated nutrition database to reduce calorie estimation errors on common foods.

Changes since last submission: rolling balance with daily bar chart, split food AI decomposition, error recovery button, food DB search, saved meal presets, DB cross-reference nutrition accuracy.
