### 4/5 — Real toter

*2022-08-10, version 3.4.02*

Can take it with you and read it while wating to see someone or waiting for service. Very easy to use and to print crosswords.

### 3/5 — Font change

*2022-07-18, version 3.4.02*

Annoying feature is when an article is selected, it is then presented to you in an annoying new font.

### 5/5 — Gainesville Sun on phone

*2022-07-02, version 3.4.02*

I like that I can read the Gainesville Sun on my phone on Saturdays when I don’t get a print version.

### 3/5 — Works well, but ...

*2022-04-22, version 3.4.02*

I love using this to read my daily paper. It took a little time to figure out how to fit articles onto the screen, but now I’m comfortable using it. Lately though, it will stop working and disappear from the iPad screen and I have to start it over. I have re-installed, but it will do this twice or three times each morning.

### 4/5 — Easy way to read the paper

*2022-03-12, version 3.4.02*

My only criticism is that the fonts get messed up on almost every page. They go to very large followed by red and on and on.

### 5/5 — Love knowing what is going on in Gainesville

*2022-01-14, version 3.4.02*

Love being able to look at the paper whenever I’m in a place that I have to wait. It’s easy to pull up the newspaper. It’s easier to enlarge the print and seeing entire article just by clicking on it. Fryer those who thought they prefer the paper copy give it a try. You might like it.

### 5/5 — Problem with the digital copy of the Gainesville sun

*2021-12-10, version 3.4.02*

The digital addition was having problems for over 2 months. I could not access the digital paper . They told me they were working on it. Then they said pay again for 1 year, $28 and we will delete the paper and reinstall it. They will refund the $59 I paid in august. The paper is working again. They never refunded the $59 and when I checked on it they said we do not give refunds! So now I get 2 working auditions of the digital papers every morning . I will be cancelling the Gainesville sun soon!

### 5/5 — Sun, Shines

*2021-11-30, version 3.4.02*

Very good local news with a hint of National news. Just lost 2 very good sports writers. Standins’ not up to par. Hope it will get better down the road.

### 5/5 — Dr. Thomas Baumgartner

*2021-11-04, version 3.4.02*

Initially, our impression was - what no page to turn! But we got Used to the app and we now appreciate that we were correct to avoid another source of cover - paper and plastic cover...

### 5/5 — Good Local News

*2021-07-28, version 3.2.50*

Nice to be able to keep up with Alachua County news right on my iPad. It’s easy to operate, too.

### 4/5 — App is ok, but filled with typos

*2021-05-09, version 3.2.50*

The app works pretty well, but there are a lot of typos created by formatting issues.

### 5/5 — The Sun in my phone!

*2021-04-01, version 3.2.50*

It rises with me each day, thank god!

### 4/5 — Read everyday

*2021-01-14, version 3.2.50*

Good local and national news coverage. E-version is available very early. Since upgrade from an older Kindle Fire to IPad a world of difference with only one minor glitch. Sometimes the page turn arrow stops functioning, but all you have to do to fix is open an article and close it to get it working again.

### 2/5 — Stephen Ferkovich

*2021-01-03, version 3.2.50*

I’ve been having a problem with the e-edition for weeks now. The app worked for about a week and then it kept crashing and now I can’t even open it up. People at the Gainesville Sun IT Dept said to contact Apple which I did and they concluded the Sun app wasn’t working because I could download other apps that worked. The Sun now tells me to read the newspaper as a webpage since the e-edition isn’t working. It’s very frustrating.

### 5/5 — Great progress

*2020-12-30, version 3.2.50*

The Gainesville Sun has been doing better and better with improving their app. Keep up the good work!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Worthless

*2022-12-18, version 3.6.24*

We pay for daily home delivery so you would think we would get the on line access to Gannett papers as promised. We only get by calling every time we want to access it! They walk us through system - password, etc. and say ok you’ re connected — only lasts a couple of tries!

### 1/5 — Gainesville Sun Review

*2021-05-25, version 3.2.50*

The primary reason for subscribing to the Sun was to get local news - besides the sports. What a disappointment! Maybe one page of local news.
I get more off the TV and internet.
For example: Mickey Figueroa was implicated in a hit and run student fatality more than two months ago. The police declined to arrest him. There has been absolutely no follow up! Does the Sun have any full time reporters, other than sports?
I’m fed up. I will not be re subscribing.
I have a MA in Journalism from Ohio State and I’m embarrassed looking through the paper. Sad.

### 1/5 — Far toooooo liberal newspaper.

*2021-05-24, version 3.2.50*

Love David Whitley’s Sports column. One of the best addition in a looong time!!!

### 1/5 — Inconsistent

*2020-12-27, version 3.2.50*

Pathetic app. Works one day then reverts back to a prompt to contact customer service.

Stopped the paper version and continued the digital however problems persist.

### 1/5 — Crashing app

*2020-12-08, version 3.2.50*

The Gainesville Sun app keeps crashing. Yesterday I could not read the e-edition at all as the app kept crashing.
Claude

### 1/5 — Worst app yet

*2020-11-12, version 3.1.76*

In all my years of using apps this is undoubtedly the most bug infested one ever. Slow to load, clunky to get around in, and prone to simply disappear in the midst of trying to open a new page. The disappearing act often occurs 3-4-5 times an edition. Maddening! On top of all these flaws the app is an absolute battery hog. I have used up to forty percent of a charge reading a single issue. Doesn’t even seem possible, but happens all the time. I’ve wondered how a newspaper app could be so awful. I read the NYT and Washington Post daily also with never, repeat never problems like this. Now I realize how this horrible performance manages to go on with never any improvement-it simply avoids any chance to critique. Every time the prompt comes up asking, “Are you enjoying this app” and one select NO, there is no way to provide feedback. This time I selected YES, and lo and behold I’m offered the option to “Write a Review.” One can only assume that the developers are fully aware of how awful this app is and cleverly restrict any true comments.
It is important to me to stay current on the news of my community, I wish it was half as important to you all to have an app that actually is functional.

### 1/5 — Needs work

*2020-07-12, version 3.1.76*

Please update. Glitchy and slow.

### 1/5 — Glitchy and inaccesible in this format

*2020-03-25, version 2.8.27*

If it weren’t glitchy and inconsistent, this e-edition would still only be readable on a digital device that’s literally the size of the physical newspaper. Totally inaccessible to me on my phone in this format.

It’s unfortunate they don’t offer a digital version consisting only of local content. That’s all I want. No one reads their local paper anymore for the national news.

### 2/5 — Great when it works

*2022-12-12, version 3.6.24*

At least 3 times a week crashes I delete and reinstall Miss the hard copy
Miss the op ed pages

### 2/5 — Reload Required After Every Share

*2022-06-03, version 3.4.02*

It's a real drag waiting for the page to reload any time you share an article. And you have to really work at it to see ALL of the comic strips.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Online newspaper

*2023-07-13*

Very accessible and easy to read as well as search articles

### 5/5 — Easier on old eyes.

*2023-03-04*

I still get the print edition. It is absolutely necessary for our community but I need a magnifier to read it. I find the online edition much easier on old eyes.

### 5/5 — Newspaper layout

*2023-01-10, version 3.6.24*

I like the old-fashioned newspaper layout, to read page by page!

### 5/5 — Gainesville Sun app

*2023-01-02, version 3.6.24*

A reliable and efficient way to view the news, especially if you get up real early before your delivery person has your paper for pick up. I also love it when I’m out of town, I can view the newspaper and keep up with local news.
