## What is Galaxy Collider HD?

Galaxy Physics in your Hands!

Galaxy Collider simulates the universe in your hands. So brace yourself for the collision of the Milky Way with the Andromeda Galaxy!

Galaxy Collider simulates the physics of interacting galaxies by computing the gravitational forces between the stars and the heavy galaxy centers.

Galaxy collider features a high performance particle engine that can interactively visualize spectacular galaxy interactions. It uses OpenGL point sprites for rendering thousands of high-quality stars at high frame rates.

The parameters of the simulation, such as the number of galaxies and stars, masses, etc. can be changed interactively to explore the infinite number of possible interactions between the galaxies.

Galaxy collider uses the build-in accelerometer of the iPad to change viewpoints and add real external forces to the simulation.

For further information about interacting galaxies check out the Wikipedia article at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interacting_galaxy)

## Key features

### 5/5 — Does not work see update

*2017-01-10, version 1.52*

I got it to run once. I have no idea what triggered that one time since repeating the action did nothing. I think it may be so slow starting because I am in a recent operating system and get a warning about that when I call it up. I really enjoyed the light (free) version and found it both mesmerizing and fascinating. I am hoping an update will get it working. UPDATE IT NOW WORKS GREAT.

### 5/5 — Love it.

*2011-12-29, version 1.42*

I enjoyed the free version, but the upgrade was definitely worth it. The additional controls allow me to design two spiral galaxies that are distant enough that they can take a whole day to slowly strip the stars from each other's core - this is exactly what I've been looking for in a fun, visually spectacular, yet also intriguing particle toy - slash - screensaver.

The upgraded controls also allow me to try different configurations in real time - a nice change.

I think this has also given me a little better understanding of some of the more peculiar shapes we see in nebula and some of the more bizarre globular galaxies. If you set the star size to zero and the count to maximum, you can really start to see some interesting structures start to appear.

Really fun to what-if with, and an awesome way to daydream away an afternoon.

The only change I would hope for in the future would be an option to enter numerical values rather than using sliders, for trying out more precise collisions.

But it is sufficiently awesome as-is.

### 1/5 — Bad Update

*2011-12-10, version 1.42*

This update caused a new date on the product, causing me to think the app was released in 2011, and the previous version was released in 2010! Please stop putting new dates on your product.

Also, this update removes the settings tab and I need the tab back! Please stop removing tabs from your app.

This update doesn't even work with iOS 4.3, it only works with iOS 5.0 or later. Please stop changing the compatibility of the app for every update.

Please stop updating this app, otherwise I am not going to like the updates because of new features and compatibility changes! Please revert to the older version from last year forever.

### 1/5 — Not worth the money

*2011-11-29, version 1.41*

This is not worth the money at all the app tends to not work properly when running a simulation.

### 5/5 — Astronomer professor's best simulation choice!

*2010-12-05, version 0*

The Universe is a chaotic place and evolved through galaxy collisions. Gravity is unrelenting and this App exquisitely demonstrates the grand dance. It is the range of user options that sets this App heads above others. This is the "what if" interactivity that science educators crave! Give us more math driven interactive apps like this Klaus! This is a winner.

### 5/5 — This is a great educational tool!

*2010-10-02, version 0*

I'm a planetarium director, and my staff and I have concluded that this app alone would be a good reason to get an iPad and use it as a teaching tool. As a way to explain to people about what a galaxy is made of and how spiral galaxies can gravitationally interact and sometimes end up as elliptical galaxies, this little app is outstanding.

The 3-D feature (ala red-blue glasses) is a lot of fun and gives extra "oomph" to the educational utility of this app.

A tiny quibble - it'd be nice to be able to save interacting galaxy scenarios - sort of a "preferences" function - rather than have to start from scratch every time the app loads.

Overall, my staff and I are deeply impressed with this app. If galaxies interest you, then this is $2 very well spent.

### 4/5 — Great Simulation

*2010-09-06, version 0*

This is a really nice simulation with a minor flaw.

It boggles the mind to watch galaxies collide, acting out in seconds what would take a few billion years in reality.

The one thing that.bothers me is that if you look at a single galaxy the first thing that happens is that a lot of stars will gather at the rim of the galaxy and then eventually stabilize into something more normal. The problem is that the galaxies usually start to interact before they stabilize and you get these interesting but probably spurious filaments torn out of the approaching galaxies.

Not quite a reliable indication of what would happen if the galaxies didn't have a huge number of stars near their rims.

In other words, not everything you see is what would happen if the stars were where they belonged

I gave this a four anyway, because it is such a fantastic simulation

Pete

### 4/5 — Time

*2010-04-20, version 0*

I suggest this application as great example of time based dynamics. Time is compressed to a point where billions of years become seconds, anticipating future dynamics.
