I'm hoping for an update because the extra screen real estate would be very helpful especially in an app like this. ### 4/5 — nice package within the limits of the ipad sandbox *2013-10-12* updated review: this is a nice toy, with the rich scheme functionality, but the interface is clumsy. Youhave to depend on the cut and paste to import files, the file editor is primitive, and I have trouble with cut and paste in the REPL window. Does this app work in iOS7? I want to upgrade from iOS6 and I like this enough to want to keep this. The App site does not say specifically that this works under iOS7, or not. ### 4/5 — Great... *2013-01-14* ...but it crashes occasionally. I love the features though, an I think it's an elegant mobile Lisp interpreter. No mobile app is for large projects, but this app is great for learning Lisp. I also wish you had a Common Lisp version, but, MIT Scheme itself isn't what I'm reviewing, right? ### 4/5 — Really nice system; one annoying flaw *2012-07-05, version 6.1* Really great to be able to write proper Lisp (Scheme) code on my iPad. There's only be thing stopping this from being a five star app at the time of writing: whereas in REPL mode the app adds a line of useful Lispy characters to the top of the standard iPad keyboard ( brackets, operators etc) these keys do not appear in the program editor mode. As you can imagine, having to flip back and forth between alphabet keys and symbol keys ( including brackets) is NOT fun in a Lisp editor. Please can you add this to the edit mode as well? It would double the usefulness of the product. ### 4/5 — Good App *2011-06-27, version 1.0* The app is good for on the go calculations but not for writing programs. I want scheme but the Basic interpreters/IDEs for iOS are much more usable. ### 3/5 — Needs to be fixed using BlueTooth keyboard *2019-02-07* Please fix the bug in the BlueTooth keyboard where it sees a double quote as some UTC code other than the double quote. It is not convenient to use the onscreen key to quote strings when using a keyboard. I have the Logitech Logi keyboard. ### 3/5 — Helpful keyboard but otherwise disappointing interface *2018-01-21* The custom keyboard that comes with this build of gambit-c is very useful, making most needed keys readily available. However, the file editor is rather awkward and basic, and the REPL is far more primitive than what comes with PC builds. If you want to try the Scheme language on your desktop or laptop, definitely try out Gambit; it is one of the most well known and mature implementations and has a great interactive REPL. This mobile version was disappointing. ### 3/5 — Some annoying oddities *2014-12-01, version 6.2* It basically works, but... why are you allowed to use the Greek letter lambda for lambda functions in the REPL, but in code you enter in the editor you have to write out the word "lambda"? Why can you, in the REPL, accidentally delete the > prompt? Why is there endless documentation referring to Gambit on desktop, but not about the app itself? It's just more confusing and awkward than it needs to be. (The custom keys at the top of the keyboard are brilliant, though, once you get the hang of them: I wish they were available across iOS, I'd never have to flip through different pages of the keyboard again.) ### 3/5 — Unstable *2014-07-31, version 6.1* Keeps crashing on iOS 7 in repl and giving weird results periodically. Editor on edit tab behave erratically with cursor seem to be positioned 1 character off its displayed position and text being inserted/deleted in wrong place. Workaround is to type in Notes and paste the whole text. ### 3/5 — Great, but... *2013-02-19* Crashes randomly. Also I'd like to see iPhone 5 support. Please update! ### 4/5 — Nice Scheme for on the go *2019-09-18, version 7.1* Excellent scheme implementation for programming on the iPhone where I’m using it. Built in Emacs is decent, but I can’t figure out the how or where the Meta key is. Any help appreciated on that problem, otherwise, a very good solution for Lispers and Schemers without access to a full computer. ### 4/5 — Good utility for schemers *2017-04-13, version 7.1* I use and like gambitc on the desktop and find the REPL useful to address ad hoc problems on an iPad when away from desktop. The app crashes immediately upon opening on both an iPhone 6 and iPad Air 2. Since you ported Gambit, you'd probably be the best person to port the rest of Jazz Scheme. You could probably use existing X server app for the GUI stuff. Just a suggestion to make a really good app a great app. ### 5/5 — Surprisingly complete R5RS implementation *2013-05-18* This is surprisingly complete R5RS implementation for iOS. Seems quite able to support learning and practicing scheme programming and working through examples in such classics as SISC, Little Schemer, Seasoned Schemer, EOPL without the need to lug around a full laptop. Brilliant! ### 5/5 — Awesome, and about time. *2012-03-25* Thank you, folks of gambit-c, that both developed this and made the case (successfully) that a scheme console program is a tool and poses no threat to apple. Please ensure that the read function remains usable as meta-circular is boring without (read). As far as I can tell, it is the same functionality as the PC/Linux interpreter. The edit windows are a cool feature and I have not found a limit to there storage. I just email my code from my desktop to myself, copy and past, save and run like nobodies business. For those who don't know. Double enter exits the repl and if that doesn't work, make sure the phone is sideways and hit the stop button above the keyboard and it will work. One request I would like to make is to have an environment reset button along the bottom bar. Resetting my iPhone is a little annoying. But, thank you for telling us to do that in the help. This gets five stars from me because it is all there right from the start. Everything else is just syntactic sugar. ### 5/5 — An excellent fit! *2012-01-02* This is an ideal implementation for anyone that has call to use scheme while away from their desk. It is just the tool for idly trying out the doodles drawn in spilled coffee over lunch. Gambit-C is much more than the tight implementation of scheme the app provides. Gambit-C is a fully featured version of scheme which is also able to handle infix code which is very, very close to native C. The online help provided (a wiki) is comprehensive and easy to read and follow. This app would be particularly useful for researchers and students, but any inveterate schemer will enjoy it. Thanks! ### 5/5 — Wonderful *2011-10-22, version 6.0* My only argument with this app is that there aren't quite enough extra keys made visible on the extended keyboard (numbers would be a handy thing to have). Other than that, this is a great way to play with one of the best Schemes out there.
