But I give it 4 stars because they changed the menu when they added more games. Please add the ‘physical’ board game boxes back! I was very disappointed when it happened…I know that a lot of game may have made it confusing, but you could make the current menu an option. ### 3/5 — Okay, but has its issues. *2025-12-11* The game in of itself is okay, but it really doesn’t do itself much in the lines of some technical aspects of the presentation. For example, there is no threefold repetition in the chess game (a stalemate where the board state remains the same for three turns), the word wright game often misses common words (on Dec. 11th it didn’t think decided is a word?), and it lacks transparency for some of the rules of Hearts or Yacht—clearly seeming as if it’s ripoff of Yahtzee and making hearts unbearably complicated to play. **Developer response:** I thanks for reporting this. There should be threefold repetition detection in chess so that is a bug that we'll look into. Some letter combinations in WordWright produces a lot of possible words so we have to cut some out to not make a single day too tedious. Sometimes we have removed words that maybe should have been in. We have been talking about making a "maximum" game mode where you need to find all possible words in the word list. Yacht we are planning on coming back to improve pretty soon so keep the app updated. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — AI Cheats *2026-07-24, version 1.15.1* Played 10 games of Backgammon vs AI on hard mode and AI blatantly rolls whatever it needs to win. I was leading in the last game and AI rolled doubled 4 times in a row. Now tell us how your game is balanced and certified…. I call BS. ### 1/5 — Participation trophy *2026-07-20, version 1.15.1* The AI shooting the moon .. then taking all the points away from loser to distribute to other players is about as lame as it gets!! Might as well scream “here loser, you deserve a participation trophy because the other players beat you. But don’t worry, not only do you get a PT, I took all your points and distributed them to the actual winners”. The chess AI is easily beatable on the hardest level, despite my not having played for several decades. The word game based on spelling bee is an atrocious mess. So many simple words are not included as playable options despite being obvious, everyday words that are used that there is clearly no QA among the developers, and they aren’t pulling from any standard opensour eyes dictionary to check their work. This has to be the worst value for production dollars Apple has spent… And I’m counting the Apple car in that list. I would be happy to vibe code a better version using the worst LLM imaginable, to offer an alternative if Apple would put it up on the top of the app page! The ai on hard mode cheats, every single game! ### 1/5 — Could be better *2025-12-28, version 1.15.1* They need to remove the word AI as there is no AI in most of the games. Take backgammon for example. Easy mode is super easy as the computer makes many bad decisions which you would expect. The Hard mode is only more challenging due to better dice rolls. The decision making by the computer on backgammon hard is really really poor. It has made it unplayable for anyone who has played a decent amount of backgammon.
