### 4/5 — It’s Canadian Eh!

*2026-09-06*

Like Canada it needs some improvement, but non toxic and friendly at least until foreign interference happens.

### 4/5 — Breath of fresh air

*2026-09-05*

I feel so lucky to have found this community. Affirmingly Canadian. Thanks Gander!

### 4/5 — Overall great app

*2026-08-28*

I like the app but still issues being able to see different feeds . This does work on the web version so I use the web version on my IPhone.

### 2/5 — Not easy to join

*2026-08-26*

I don’t seem to be acceptable to them. I’m waiting to hear from Canada Post; have been waiting a day. Have lived at my address for over 20 years so don’t know the issue and no one from Gander has gotten back to me so…not impressed at all.

### 5/5 — Left the Toxic Networks

*2026-08-26*

I’m happy to see a desktop version come out. Good timing too - we need to make sure there are alternatives to the toxic networks “down there”. It’s early days but so far so good! 👍🏼

### 5/5 — Great!

*2026-08-25*

A fully Canadian social media option. Very secure. No bots. No advertising. Just Canadians from all across the the country. Highly recommend

### 5/5 — If you care about being Canadian, join up

*2026-08-25*

Awesome, awesome social media app. Community is friendly, pre-dominantly Canadian (you’re feed isn’t 24/7 Trump! Of course there are Canadians discussing Trump and feel free to do so!)

You can use #hashtags, post pics and videos, make boards. Any issues and you can message or tag @gander themselves and they are very prompt to help, and the community is as well.

Some bugs come up as many more people are joining these days. More features coming too.

Gander is my #1 social media (Geriatric gen Z) followed by bluesky. Thanks Gander!

### 5/5 — Love Gander

*2026-08-25*

Finally a 100% Canadian social media app with integrity and transparency. While a fairly new app, new features are constantly added based on community input.

### 5/5 — a breath of fresh air

*2026-08-22*

real Canadian social media, made by real canadians, for real people - no bots or ai constantly shoving ads & dis/misinformation in my face like on fb. it’s great knowing that each & every account is a real live human being.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2026-08-22*

They are still working out the bugs but I have found the landscape of Gander to be a refreshing change from other social media platforms. Loving the thoughtful interactions I have had with many Canadians on this platform and that it isn’t as toxic as FB and IG.

### 5/5 — Great Canadian hosted social media

*2026-08-16*

I have been using the app for several months and think it’s great. It’s user friendly and is largely free from the rage baiting seen in most other social media apps

### 2/5 — Nice idea, log in too annoying

*2026-08-15*

Nice idea to have a Canada social app. The log in process ruins it for me. Why this obsession with email-based logins ? Why not passkeys? Even worse because this app keeps logging me out all the time. A social app needs to be quick, allow instant access, not require a multi-minute ordeal to log in every time it’s launched.

### 5/5 — Don’t Listen to Haters

*2026-08-05*

This is a fantastic app that isn’t trying to be an instant dopamine machine like big platforms. Proving identity is way less invasive than the info FB/IG are collecting from your phone constantly. (And Gander doesn’t keep the data once confirmed) It is a public benefit company which means it is for-profit and doesn’t qualify for govt funding-it also can’t profit at the expense of its users. It is improving with each update & feeling the growing pains of upscaling because people want to be here! It follows Canadian laws and our Charters of Rights and Freedoms. The community works for accessibility-Citing sources, giving credit to photos/art, ALT text, #CapitalizingHashtags are common practice. No one yucks your yum here. Love it!

### 5/5 — Silly Goose!

*2026-07-16*

A place for us Canucks to keep real and keep classy while connecting. Love it.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Blank screen

*2026-09-02*

Can’t access, can’t contact anyone.

### 1/5 — Weird authentication

*2026-08-19*

Cool app idea but barely any good content. And the fact I need to give a government ID to confirm I’m not a bot, or use my organization email is weird, and very surveillance state-esque. Not a fan.

### 1/5 — Verification email gets in after timeout

*2026-08-04*

I was so excited to use this.
However , the verification email takes 5 minutes to come in. Therefore the time is always elapsed.
Uninstall—- sorry

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2026-08-01*

Try to sign up but just get a black screen after either email or phone.

### 1/5 — Painful

*2026-07-20*

The process of signing up to start using the app fully is a pain, I love the concept of keeping bots out, but if I have to jump any hoops I’m out, I don’t use corporate email for social media and not many people do, I’m not a student, I’m a guy that uses Gmail, Outlook, Hotmail congruently your now alienating people that way too

### 1/5 — Danger, Do not download

*2026-07-07*

Unusual data collection for a social platform. Requires government ID scan, facial biometric (selfie), and institutional email. Not necessary to verify account legitimacy. Heavy integration with Canada Post’s Identity+ system. Ask yourself why a social media app needs facial recognition data tied to your government ID and work/school email. Privacy-conscious users should consider alternatives.

Books say private start up, but pattern says either explicit government backing (unlikely to be public) or very coordinated institutional alignment/regulatory capture dressed up as indie startup.

This not a social media app it’s a honeypot made to look like one and it is about profiling you, identifying you and monetizing your data.

### 1/5 — Not ready

*2026-07-06*

I wanted to like it, but it’s not ready. The app doesn’t display properly on my phone. Things are cut off on the left and right. Perhaps it’s the text size I’ve chosen on my phone. I couldn’t find a way to make posts private. From Home, I would want to see posts from people in my Nest, not strangers. My advice is to focus on “within nest” sharing of posts. I don’t need to see things from strangers, nor do I need yet another chat.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2026-06-27*

They need to do an update. Cannot sign up for a new account, login, verify am account or get support.

### 1/5 — ID confirmation

*2026-06-25*

Not happy. Tried twice to confirm id. Nothing happened. No response from support either

### 1/5 — Not ready for prime time

*2026-06-18*

Trying to create account after getting early access, verify email, get to interests and then “invalid or exhausted invite code”. Also, signing is a relatively insecure “we email or text you a code”… no password, MFA, or passkey… easier to get hacked now. Not a promising start for a new platform.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Perfect social app to enjoy

*2026-09-07*

I’ve enjoyed Gander since its start and love the community and its content. Often funny, meaningful, current, and like my friendly neighbourhood on my walk to the coffee shop for a cup and some conversation. Thanks Gander!

### 5/5 — Like it so far!

*2026-09-05*

Great community. Would love to be able to edit posts!

### 5/5 — From Beta to Early Days

*2026-09-05*

This is a very cool, human-centric, virtual space. It’s been awesome being a part of the evolution.

### 5/5 — A nice change

*2026-08-27*

I am really enjoying this app. It is a refreshing change from Facebook and similar social platforms.

### 5/5 — All-🇨🇦 social media

*2026-08-26*

Great convos without the rage-bait; meeting fellow Canadians from all over; fun, serious, informative, new products, #HashtagWars & Tod Maffin! What more do you need?

### 5/5 — Canadian content

*2026-08-26*

Love this app. Still has the occasional glitch as it’s still reasonably new but developers are immediately responsive and fixes are quick. Enjoying the Canadian content and calm, relaxed atmosphere. It’s like dropping into your local coffee shop, meeting friends and making new ones. Refreshingly different from the usual social media.

### 5/5 — What happens when you get a bunch of Canadians on social media in one place?

*2026-08-26*

It’s so pleasant! The conversations are polite and caring. It’s a diverse bunch of people talking about things, but in a considerate and thoughtful way. It really emphasizes to me how toxic other platforms are. Also, I love the absence of slop and clickbait. You can share news articles here! The developers are building the platform as they go, and I look forward to the new features they’ll be adding, but what they’ve built so far is worth using. Loving this growing community.

### 5/5 — Five Stars

*2026-08-26*

New but responsive to any glitches that rear their ugly heads. All Canadian for now. Interactive users. No bot accounts.

### 5/5 — Canada is here

*2026-08-26*

Gander unites provinces and territories in a friendly conversation + word games.

Gander unies provinces et territoires dans une conversation amiable + jeux de mots.

### 5/5 — Fabulous Alternative

*2026-08-26*

It’s taking me a bit of time to make the adjustment, but let’s be honest, getting rid of bad habits could be a bit of work! I’m using American media platforms less often and have noticed a difference in my mental health. Making new friends, finding lots of positive energy!
