I heard about this app from Reddit after I searched for "best metronome for guitar". The gap is so good for training myself to maintain a tempo! The interface is very intuitive except for the tap circle, but I just learned what that does from reading a review on my way to write this one. I went and tried it really quick, and it's perfect! So useful! I've only used the default sound because I find it pleasant, so no need to mess with it. By contrast, I checked out some youtube BPM videos yesterday, and the sound effect was so awful, I just couldn't. I love that it keeps playing even if the app is put in the background, and it even plays while the Voice Memo app is recording! (The metronome will be on the recording though.) The only thing I don't see that I would like to have is the ability to store tempos (so I can quickly grab the tempo I was last using for each of the different songs I’m practicing).

Update: after using the app for a bit, there are two things I want to note. 

Firstly, the app volume adjustment doesn't seem to work. The volume seems the same loudness when I’m using other apps as it always has—even when I have it set to 10%. At 10%, I would think there should be a discernible difference.

The second issue is when the app first loads or when the output audio changes devices, it pops up on the screen which device, and while it displays, the app is unresponsive. I personally don't care to see the device displayed like this, but what I really want is to be able to hit play right when I open the app and not have to wait for the "Speaker" overlay to disappear.

Love this app! It would be awesome if there was a timer available in the app for practice, instead of having to use my phone timer when practicing. Other than that it’s flawless!

Hallo ich habe die App heute erworben und wie bereits erwähnt ist die Thematik gut umgesetzt. 
Allerdings finde ich den Output zu leise. Ich habe sie auf einem Stereokanal am Mischpult und ich muss den Kanal ganz aufziehen. 
Stellt man nun 2 Takte Viertelbeat im Wechsel mit 2 Takten Achteloffbeat ein, ist der erste Schlag beim Wechsel von Offbeat zu Viertelbeat so laut, das man das Gefühl hat, man bekommt den Kopf abgeschlagen. 
Bitte nachbessern.

is a good idea in an app, but the lack of the precount make the gap space unusable for the first full loop. Big miss imho. I would love also to be able to save my preset and not to rebuild everytime from scratch. Good app for the rest.

While this may not have the bells and whistles of a really nice metronome, this thing is still an amazing tool.

I saw instant improvement in my soloing and fills and just timekeeping in genera…. after a few practice sessions. it has proven itself to be an  Absolutely essential practice tool going forward

Not being able to input any time signature, (to practise 5/8, 6/8 or 7/8) is my only issue with this otherwise game changing app

This app is an amazing tool to practice metronome displacements. After some time music feels like high-resolution and slow motion, allowing to play offbeats in a controlled way. The concept is super simple and most effective. I love it.

Yet the app is partially buggy and partially clumsy.

If you use the app and someone calls you, the click sound will be replaced by something muffled, you will have to restart the app to get your click sound back. This bug should have been found through proper testing before publishing the app.

Colors are a question of taste, but this green and blue and even gradients look like designed in 1980. The notation of the 16th notes for the gaps is unnecessarily complicated: instead of dotted 8th note better show 4x 16th notes. Using Intersecting circles for overlapping interaction controls (here the bpm control with time signature and tap) is questionable UX design. The click sounds are not cut properly and have a distorted reverb tail, annoying when playing with headphones.

Improvements I would love to see for future updates are a help section to explain how to use this method systematically (I guess this would help every single user) and for beginners a visual indicator for the beat quarter notes.

Just for clarification: For me this app is a must-have. My critics are carried by love only. Maybe it helps to improve the app or encourage users to give it a try.

I love this app. This is something that I’ve been looking for for a long time. The design is super simple, and makes the app very easy to figure out. I love the changing color display as well. My only complaint is the lack of features. I hope in the future that more time signatures can be implemented, as well as more subdivisions in the “content” section. This would make the app all the more useful. It would be nice if you could add more than 8 bars as well. However, despite these downsides, the app is incredible, and such a great tool for any musician.

This app would be wonderful if you could leave the app or lock your phone, and the metronome kept playing in the background. Sometimes I need to reference a photo of sheet music, save battery by locking my phone,  or use the camera on my phone to record myself, and I’d love for the metronome to keep running when I do those things. Hoping this is an easy fix that gets added soon!

Background audio was initially in the app until an issue was encountered with iOS15 that caused the app to use battery power excessively. As a temporary work-around, the ability to use background audio was removed. This is a great app! By far Benny is one of the most influential drummers from the last decade. I do like the GAP concept and how it helps to improve timing and consistency. I just wonder if they can add a timer in the settings menu. As a musicians is crucial to work on a variety of things. And being able to keep on track how much time we focus on one specific thing, helps to improve time practicing.

I haven’t used Gap Click all day, but it’s consumed 23% of my phone’s battery. Hopefully it’s not doing anything nefarious.

I enjoy the app, but I feel that it has a lot of holes. If I have the metronome, in 4/4 time, play a measure of quarter notes, then leave 3 measures of rest it ends up dropping some beats in the measure that the click plays; it might play … 2 3 4 or 1 2 3 … adding a beat of silence when there should be a click. When it comes to options I feel like it should a greater range for tempo, it should go up to 400, it’s not necessary since no one needs quarters going and 400, half notes would be better, but it would be expected for the app to have a large range of tempos instead having to use, for example, 200bpm to imply half notes at 400bpm. Also when using a speaker it sometimes just plays a low drone, making restart the app until it functions properly.

Bei mir macht die App Feedbacks bzw ein Brummen. Wenn ich den Clicksound Wechsel ist das erst mal weg kommt aber dann wieder. Mir fehlen auch ein par Taktarten wie 7/8 zb. Mich würde interessieren woher die Störgeräusche kommen. Laufen tut die App bei mir auf einem IPHONE 6SE mit IOS latest. Wegen der Probleme gibt es von mir nur 1nen Stern, Grüße

Minimiert man die App und ruft sie wieder auf, kommt kein Sound. Erst ein kompletter Neustart der App hilft. Auf Grund dieses massiven Bugs nur ein Stern (ios 15).

 Minimizing the app causes the sound to completely vanish, there is no click sound afterwards. Only a complete restart of the app helps. This massive bug explains the one-star-rating (ios 15).

Gap clicks are so useful! 
However other metronome apps offer gap clicks with many more features.
I think this app could benefit from:
-More meter options 
-writing bpm, not changing 1bpm at a time 
-able to save song meter & bpm
-random gap option 
-more than 8 measures gap option 

Benny Greb’s advice on practicing with a gap click is priceless, but this app is too expensive for its limited features. 
Maybe they will add more in updates?
Ill be sticking with prometronome app (same price).

È assurdo che voi mettiate a paga un’applicazione che è piena di problemi. A partire dal fatto che quando l’avvio c’è un bug con i suoni per cui devo andarli a reimpostare perché sennò non funziona, al fatto che mentre suono il metronomo perde dei colpi a caso e riprende fuori tempo (e no non era attiva l’azione di battere a vuoto) semplicemente decide lui quando saltare dei colpi, e ultimamente capita sempre più spesso che mentre suono che lascio andare il metronomo sotto, lui smetta improvvisamente di andare, si mette in pausa da solo. Pagare per sti problemi mi sembra assurdo, fantastica la modalità in cui ti suona le battute a vuoto, ma con tutti sti problemi a sto punto meglio le app non a pagamento per quel che riguarda i metronomi.

Eins vorweg: was die App macht verdient 5 Sterne und ist eine große Bereicherung für jeden Drummer.

Das große „aber“: Aus unerklärlichen Gründen frisst die App bei mir selbst im geschlossenen (richtig geschlossenen) Zustand nonstop Batterieleistung – nach der Installation der App hielt die Batterie meines iPhones nur noch 2/3 so lange wie vorher und die Anzeige in den Settings welche App wie viel frisst hat mich darauf gebracht dass es GapClick ist. Nach dem Löschen war Batterie wieder in Ordnung. Nach dem zweiten Installieren das gleiche Spiel. Konnte leider auch in den App-Setting nichts so einstellen, dass die App bei Nichtbenutzung nichts verbraucht. Daher leider für mich unbrauchbar :(

Dann melde ich mich mal als VoiceOver Nutzer zu Wort. Ich kann diese App uneingeschränkt empfehlen. Dennoch habe ich einige Verbesserungsvorschläge, die die App für blinde Menschen in einigen Situationen noch etwas besser bedienbar machen könnten. Diese Verbesserungsvorschläge haben eigentlich nur mit der Tempoeingabe zu tun. Weil wir das Drehrädchen zum verändern des Tempos nicht benutzen können, müssen wir mit den Plus und minus Tasten arbeiten. Für Leute, die beispielsweise häufig zwischen 30 und 150 BPM wechseln wäre ein simples Eingabefeld. Richtig toll. Die nächste Hürde ist das ein klopfen des Tempos. Da macht uns VoiceOver mit seinem Doppeltipp einen Strich durch die Rechnung. Es ist nicht möglich, das Tempo auf diese Weise richtig einzugeben. Keine Ahnung, ob die folgende Sache vernünftig umsetzbar wäre. Mir schwebt beispielsweise vor, das Tempo durch schütteln des Gerätes eingeben zu können. Aber das ist völlig optional.

I don’t even really leave reviews like that, but this has everything I would need in a metronome. You can even tap a rhythm. I’m happy I found this so early into studying guitar.

Sono un insegnante di batteria e ho trovato questa app estremamente utile per la mia pratica quotidiana e per i miei allievi!
Facile da usare, ti permette di lavorare sul timing scegliendo su quale posizione sentire il click (sedicesimi o terzine)! 
Ad esempio con gli allievi che la usano le prime volte imposto 2 battute con il click sui quarti normale e 2 battute con il click solo sui levare di ottavo, facendogli suonare dei ritmi in 4/4.

I’ve tried every metronome app available and can confirm this to be the best. would be great to see setlist / save functionality that others have, but that’s not a huge issue. only negative is the app icon - looks like a jazzed-up Google logo. otherwise perfect.

This app is hands down the best metronome I’ve ever used. It helps you build a rock solid internal metronome. It is extremely powerful but not bogged down with useless buttons to tweak. It is elegantly and simply designed.

Clever, simple, innovative metronome!  It’s already helping a lot with my macro- and micro-time. 

Requests:

1. Haptic feedback on the scroll wheel, so you can feel the response and can tell if you missed the wheel. 

2.  The play / pause button in the middle needs a larger hit area. I’ve missed it several times. 

3. I wish there was a bit more versatility. Namely being able to do some off-beat clicks followed by gap measures.

I’d like to do things like
- lead in
Then a pattern of
- 2 measures of off-beat 
- 2 measures of gap

Or even a pattern of:
- measures of regular clicks
- measures of off-beat clicks
- measures of gap

4. I wish I had a bar of lead-in.  I find myself trying to the “play” the play button with the first note of the pattern, which is awkward. 

5.  The pitch of the off-beat pulses is identical to that of the “main” measures.  This makes it hard to know where we are and get back on track. I wish I could give the off-beats a different pitch, so I could “hear” the blue versus the green modes.
