## What is Garden Gauge?

Watering mistakes are the main reason plants die. GardenGauge tells you exactly when to water based on your local weather, soil, and plants. It works without any hardware both for gardens and lawns and is currently distributed completely free, without ads.

While most plant apps rely on fixed schedules or simple seasonal rules, we use the FAO-56 dual crop coefficient method developed by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization and used by agronomists worldwide. This method separates soil evaporation from plant water use (transpiration) and adjusts for plant type, growth stage, shade, ground cover, rainfall, and local weather. By tracking daily soil moisture, GardenGauge tells when and how much watering is truly needed - without sensors or hardware.

Features:
- Recommends when and how much to water based on projected soil moisture
- Suggests optimal watering schedules
- Shows both past and future rain amounts
- Sends automatic watering reminders
- Accounts for shade, ground cover, water stress, and plant growth stage
- Supports both in-ground and raised beds
- Supports multiple locations
- Can be adjusted for water-saving and optimal growth regimes
