### 3/5 — Helps Me Record My Garden, Not Understand It

*2026-06-01, version 6.6.2*

I’ve tried Gardenize a few times and wanted to like it, but ultimately I found myself going back to other apps. For basic plant tracking, photo journals, reminders, and plant information, it works fine.

Where it falls short for me is that it feels more like a digital garden notebook than a modern gardening platform. I garden in a challenging high-desert environment and would love to see features such as zone mapping, microclimate tracking, weather integration, soil observations, shade analysis, wildlife and pollinator tracking, and long-term garden analytics.

The app does a good job recording information, but I’d love to see it help users discover patterns and learn from their data over time. After reviewing the update history, it also appears that major feature development has slowed in recent years.

For casual gardeners, Gardenize may be exactly what they’re looking for. For gardeners managing larger spaces, experimenting with soil improvement, or tracking ecosystem development, there is still a lot of untapped potential.

I appreciate the work the developers have put into the app and hope future updates continue pushing it beyond a journal and toward a true garden management system.

### 4/5 — It signed me out & can’t get back

*2026-05-04, version 6.6.2*

I’ve only used the free version & liked that I could just open the app to see when each plant was started & have my notes to refer to. I always put the plants in manually because every plant I tried wasn’t found in database. I stopped trying that way & just automatically went to manual. Not a big deal.
My problem now is that it has signed me out & I cannot get back into it. The plants I planted this afternoon can’t be added. This has taught me not to depend on it. lol. I’ll definitely be putting the info on paper if I’m able to get signed back in. I came to the recent reviews to see if it was happening to others.

### 2/5 — Plant database is weak!

*2024-09-23, version 6.5.1*

More often than not when I go to enter a plant, it isn’t in the plant database so I have to add manually. So annoying!! If anything, have an expansive database for a garden app! Will find a better one.

### 4/5 — Great way to keep organized

*2024-06-09, version 6.5.1*

I have been using this app for a few years now. Here are my pros and cons.
Pros:
1. I like how I can take notes about each plant, take photos with dates attached to see how things progress, when I planted extra.
2. I can archive plants what have died and look them up later without having them in my current garden.
3. It’s nice being able to search for a plant or plants quickly.
4.The planner is nice to set schedules like sowing or fertilizing.
Cons:
1. I live in a rural area, all the social stuff (Gardenizers & Inspiration tabs) really bog the app down and it takes forever to load when I’m not by WiFi which is most of the time. I don’t use that stuff anyway so it’s annoying.
2. I wish there was a garden journal section. A place I can just take random notes about anything to reference to when needed. I have to have that on a different app on my phone. I wish I could keep it all in one place.

### 2/5 — Seems like a great idea but missing a lot of plants

*2024-05-20, version 6.5.0*

Right of the bat I found it was missing watermelon, cantaloupe, or any kind of melon. I stopped looking after that and canceled my free trial.

### 3/5 — Pictures not showing up

*2024-05-13, version 6.5.0*

I like this app which keeps all my gardening info in one place, but recently when I add photos they are not showing up either in the app or online. The picture count shows that I have added a picture but nothing appears. I can go into edit mode for the picture but it is just a white screen. Not sure what happened because it was working well before.

### 3/5 — Könnte super sein..,

*2024-05-12*

**Developer response:** Hi and thank you for your review and for letting us know about your experience. We will definitely keep this in mind when developing our product. We wish you a lovely gardening season, may all your flowers grow tall :) Best, Cecilia

### 4/5 — Bisher bin ich sehr begeistert

*2024-04-03*

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for your kind words and thoughtful feedback, this makes our gardening hearts grow! :D We have been on the market since 2016 - and hope to keep the app going as long as possible! Though you are on to something, it's very costly to maintain and develop an app we'll tell you.. We're doing our best to develop the app so it will be more than useful for our customers - a happy place even! For your information we are working on a new plant database right now, that will make it easier to add new plants to your garden. Keep an eye out for that in the coming weeks! Thank you for your excitement - it rubs off on us and makes our work day sunnier! Best, Cecilia

### 4/5 — Super aber könnte praktischer sein.

*2023-07-11*

### 2/5 — Not quite there

*2023-05-27, version 6.2.1*

Some great features but key things are missing. I love how there are outdoor plants plants that can be grouped and there is a calendar and great tips. However, many plants are missing though and I wish there was more personalised care schedules for the plants around when to fertilise etc. Without these, it fails to serve my needs

### 2/5 — Too expensive for what it provides

*2023-04-27, version 6.1.3*

I’m a few days into the free trial and there are things I like about the app and a number of glitchy things that I’ve encountered. Overall it is too expensive for what it provides. Compared with a monthly TV streaming subscription this is way overpriced for what is essentially a note storing tool.

 Glitches and grumbles first:

The app overall seems to be memory intensive and ran my battery down quite fast. Given that I would want to update it frequently in the garden this is a big minus.

The image capture pop up window seems to randomly place itself partly off screen, so that only the library option is clickable. This may be related to trying to add an image at a specific point e.g. adding a plant to the database when connecting a plant to an area. IDK for sure. It’s very annoying and frequent.

The lack of auto save is really frustrating. The user has to click save at every screen. It’s not difficult to edit an error so why not have the app save after entering data on linked screens.

The records aspect of it could be achieved at much lower cost in Good Notes using a journal template and some hyperlinks and typically template providers charge a one off fee of between £5 and £20 for an unlimited page navigable journal. That’s what I would find an acceptable price for this app rather than an annual £30 plus subscription.

### 2/5 — Lots of work

*2023-04-14, version 6.1.2*

This app requires you to set up _everything_ yourself. I was hoping that the database would help you to set up reminders and schedules for the plants in your collection. However it doesn't seem to do that. The database just gives me a photo and some basic info about the plant – the schedule and what to do I must set up myself.

The database also lacks almost all my plants (Phoenix Canariensis, Ipomoeba alba, Clematis flammula, Streilitizia and even Olive).

### 2/5 — It’s an interesting app for the lack of a plant database really does it for me

*2023-03-20, version 6.0.0*

It’s lacking a plant database. It doesn’t have a lot of choices. And yes, I could add them in but It would be nice if I have to go through and create an account, if the database was filled with more plants, vegetables, annual, perennials.

I don’t think more work and be done in this app could be fantastic, but it’s just not quite there.

### 3/5 — Can search the web

*2023-03-20, version 6.0.0*

Be nice if you could search the web for plants rather than have to type everything in manually

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Very poor database

*2026-05-31, version 6.6.2*

This app's database didn't contain common varieties of many landscape plants, and only uses formal Latin names - can't search by common name!

### 1/5 — Doesn’t Work

*2026-04-21, version 6.6.2*

I’m very disappointed with this app. I paid a subscription so I could get plant care information but it just says - Didn’t work, try again - over and over again. And I can’t get any response, after endless messages and emails. No customer service at all.

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2026-02-11, version 6.6.2*

I wanted to love it. Idea being it is great. Crashed all the time,

### 1/5 — Email

*2025-06-27, version 6.6.1*

I got an email evidently from y’all about my account. It was not nice so go ahead and delete the account. I don’t even know where your app is at. I evidently downloaded it. I can tell from the symbol, but it wasn’t something I kept for whateversince you’re gonna be nasty about things go ahead and delete the account!

### 1/5 — Too clunky to be useful

*2024-11-03, version 6.6.0*

App is inflexible can’t modify layout or remove unwanted parts. Events only take the date of entry rather than date of event and cannot be overridden. Not for me.

### 1/5 — Anaemic Database

*2023-07-11, version 6.3.1*

The app’s database didn’t have most of the plants in growing. But they show up in the free iNaturalist app. — Althaea? Verbena? Leonitis? Passiflora?? Nothing. They have Lactuca sativa, but I grow L. virosa and L. canadensis. I guess this app is just not for weird gardeners like me.

### 1/5 — ABO-FALLE

*2023-07-02, version 6.3.1*

Wieder nur so ne … ABO-FALLE!
Warum nicht einmal 10€ zahlen und behalten.
Nach dem Probezeitraum gehen alle Inhalte weg.

### 1/5 — Existing features moved behind paywall

*2023-04-09, version 6.1.1*

The most recent update moved Events behind a paywall. I’d spent countless hours entering detailed information for scores of plants, and created a bunch of scheduled events for sowing, transplanting, etc. The latest update added the weekly planner view as a paid feature, and now all future events beyond the current day are hidden, even in the old Events tab.

### 1/5 — Very poor

*2022-01-20, version 3.2.2*

Just to set up, very poor.

### 1/5 — Load of b****x

*2021-08-15, version 3.0.5*

Crap.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Best Plant and Garden Catalogue

*2026-07-26, version 6.6.2*

I have trialled so many apps over last two years. This is the best by far for my needs. I wanted an app to catalogue my garden. I don’t need an app to identify plants as I have this all documented. This app is great, I can record all botanical data, photograph plant, photograph plant location. I can use between my phone and tablet and back up records to excel or google sheets. My garden is a hectare in size and holds several botanical collections of various species.

### 5/5 — The absolute best app

*2026-07-16, version 6.6.2*

This app has helped me manage my garden for over 6 years now. I love having the visual catalogue of all of the plants in my garden, as well as access to information about those plants. It can help you remember when you fertilized, repotted, etc. I also use it to identify different stages of plants, so I know what I am looking at when I’m weeding. This app is one of, if not my most, used app. I definitely recommend it to people who are avid gardeners, especially if you like to collect a lot of different varieties of plant species.

### 5/5 — Tolles Pflanzen- und Ereignistagebuch!

*2025-08-05*

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for your kind review and thoughts on how we can develop the app! We'll save your thoughts and keep them in mind, it would definitely be a useful function that I know more of our gardenizers would appreciate. Wishing you a lovely gardening day! Best, Cecilia

### 5/5 — Very useful gardening app

*2024-03-19, version 6.4.1(2)*

I have been using this application for over a year now, and have found it to be very useful. I have also introduced this app to a friend who has over a 1000 unique plants on his estate, and he is very happy with it too. The app allows us to easily input plant details, add pictures, organize them by garden bed (area) and add numerous journal notes. The export feature is very useful if we want to export our plant list to Excel for printing. I am very happy to see that this app is actively being enhanced and repaired (bug fixes). The app still has some outstanding bugs that I would like to see fixed, but I am very pleased overall with this app.

### 5/5 — Sehr zufrieden

*2023-07-01, version 6.3.1*

Echt super

### 5/5 — 👍🏾

*2023-03-28, version 6.1.0*

Outstanding and outstanding customer service. I was having an issue and the Gardenize team reached out to solve the problem. Love this app. I use it as an almanac.

### 5/5 — Where Have You Been All my Life???

*2023-02-16, version 6.0.0*

I just wish I had this app sooner. Worth every penny!!!Now I’ll never dig up a plant by mistake again. I hope b

### 5/5 — Simple and handy

*2023-02-05, version 6.0.0*

Of the apps I have tried I find this one actually useful and applicable to keeping track of everything I have planted. Appreciate the relevant advice for NZ. Enjoy adding my own pictures of everything.

### 5/5 — Tolle Garten -App

*2023-01-07*

**Developer response:** Hi Tolle, thank you so much for your review! Please contact us with your account information so we can help you fix the bug that is making your account crash. customerservice@gardenize.com Best/Cecilia
