The app is good for cataloging your lap times. ### 4/5 — Lacking Video *2024-11-24* This app is great on both the iPhone and iPad. The telemetry is very helpful to analyze on these device platforms to find areas for improvement. The user experience is intuitive, and I find it easy to connect the Catakyst to my phone hot spot to transfer the data to the cloud from the paddock. I know this feature was never promised, but I feel the lack of video review on my phone or iPad SHOULD be relatively simple for Garmin to add in today’s world of cloud computing. I pay for iCloud storage, so let me move my videos to my iCloud to review along with the driving telemetry data. This is why i’m only eating the app a 4 instead of a 5. Video was more of a nice to have and I never thought about the possibility of on track coaching tips. I’m more of an advanced non-professional. If you run every weekend at the same track you don’t need tips but I’m typically at a 5 different tracks a year and never the same one twice in a row. The tips are fantastic and they’ve showed me lines that aren’t what anyone else I drive with uses…and they’re faster. All those in one package but with fantastic integration. But the integration is useable seconds after you pull off the track and without even unbuckling your belts. The usability is absurd and the video is a fun nice to have so you can share/show off to friends and family as well as see the line (video and data) in corner 7 on lap 10 you just did. I didn’t even mention that it connects to a user community and leaderboard. Another layer of fun. I have no complaints other than I wish the data transfer to the mini SD card was a little faster but it’s a small small thing (I now do it while driving home) for such a complete and well thought out package that is executed perfectly. Compare lap info with friends, use the coaching to help you get faster. My buddy has an M2CSR with an Aim data logger and bought a Catalyst after seeing my setup and going through my data. Easy to use and provides a lot of useful data ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Not fit for purpose *2026-05-12, version 3.00.14* This device and app are simply not fit for purpose. There are issues everywhere you look. I’ll list a few below: - transferring videos from the device to your phone is painful. It is incredible slow and will fail 4 out of 5 times requiring you to restart. You also need to prevent your phone from sleeping by tapping the screen constantly for 45 mins. - exporting laps to your phone rarely works. Most of the time, the app simply crashes. But if it does export, you often only get half a lap. - Bluetooth audio will not connect to my car head unit. - best laps and optimal laps are not syncing to my garmin vault subscription automatically (costs £10 a month) - app seems to require internet connection in order to browse imported sessions. I would assume they were held locally on the phone. This device should be recalled. ### 1/5 — Don’t buy V2 *2026-05-11, version 3.00.14* This app is broken for catalyst v2 hardware. Saving a lap results in an app crash. When I try to compare laps it complains that the tracks aren't similar enough. Worse though is that there's no apparent way of sharing your sessions with friends. App allows you to compare your sessions at tracks on a leaderboard but the only by the year there’s no overall leaderboard. You also can’t check out leaderboards of other tracks that you have yet to completed any sessions at.
