## What is Garum?

Garum is a map of places that are there for a reason. Not a restaurant search engine, not a ranking: only bars, restaurants, cafés and cocktail bars that someone trustworthy stands behind get in, and each one shows why.

CLASSICS, ESTABLISHED AND NEW
Three lists by age. Classics have been open for more than 25 years, established places between 3 and 25, and new ones less than 3, doing something different and doing it well. Places move from one list to the next by themselves as the years go by.

EVERY PLACE, WITH ITS WHY
No stars, no scores. Each place carries specific reasons, like good produce, honest prices, treated like family or no posing, plus notes signed by the people who back it.

WHAT TO ORDER, WHEN TO GO
Every place tells you what kind of place it is, the food, the price per person, when to go, whether to book and what to order. Filter the map by what you fancy, or by what fits right now.

EVERYTHING IS SIGNED
Notes carry the signature of whoever writes them, and every backing its author's name, reasons and, if they like, a comment. Each place tells you who signs it, who proposed it and how many people back it.

PEOPLE WITH YOUR TASTE
In Social you follow like-minded people, see what they have lately backed and proposed, and keep the three lists at hand. Your profile shows what you propose and back; your saved places are for your eyes only. And on the map, one tap leaves just the places of the people you follow.

COLLECTIONS
Lists and itineraries with a note at every stop: make your own, follow the ones of people you trust and share them with a link, even with people who don't have Garum.

GARUM PRO
Private collections, notices about new places in the areas you choose and places in your collections that close, widgets for your Home Screen and Lock Screen, the whole map and its pages without a connection, and colour themes. Garum Pro is a one-time purchase, shared with your family, and you can try it free for 30 days. Everything else stays free.

MISSING ONE?
Search for it, check it in Apple Maps and propose it. It gets in when a Curator signs it or several trusted people back it. Not even in Apple Maps? Tell us.

NO SMALL PRINT
Looking at the map is free and asks for nothing. To see each place's why and to contribute, you sign in with Apple: you appear with the name you share with Apple, never your email. No ads, no analytics, and no place can pay to be on the map: no featured spots, no sponsorships. Your saved places sync with iCloud and your location never leaves your iPhone, except for an approximate area if you turn on Garum Pro alerts for «My location».

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 0.2.2 — 2026-10-19

• Garum now notes which parts of the map you look at and what you search, to know where to add places. You can turn it off at the bottom of Settings.
• Widgets set to “System default” no longer stay in another language.

### 0.2.1 — 2026-10-18

• The map opens where you are (if you allow it); otherwise it goes back to where you left it.
• Widgets now use the language you choose in Garum (Settings › Language).
• The small “Who you follow” widget shows its full title.

### 0.2.0 — 2026-10-15

Garum is now an iPad app:
• The map full screen, with each place's page in a panel beside it.
• Social in two columns: the list, and next to it the profile or collection you open.
• Upright or turned, with the tabs always at the top.
• Widgets sized for the iPad.

### 0.1.1 — 2026-10-09

The map no longer goes blank when it travels: tap «See where there are» or open a collection on the map, and nearby places glide into view at the same zoom while faraway ones appear already drawn.

### 0.1.0 — 2026-10-08

Search for areas from the map: type a town, a neighbourhood or a region and the map travels there, telling you how many Garum places it has. Collections in Social sort themselves by theme, area — from a neighbourhood to a whole region — and itineraries, with «Near you» and people's collections kept apart, each on a single row with an icon for what it is. «See on the map» shows only a collection's places, its stops numbered. When an area has no places yet, a small line at the bottom takes you to the nearest ones. Settings brings mode, icon and theme together under Appearance, and in French the privacy policy and terms open in French.
